OSU S Malik Hooker Enters Draft
Not a surprise as he's probably the first safety off the board in the upcoming draft, but it's now official. Expect either RS FR Jordan Fuller or one of their multitude of true FR 5 star DBs in their upcoming 2017 class to take over the starting role.
OSU has now lost 3 safeties early to the draft in the past two years alone. There's also a decent chance both starting corners for OSU go pro as well. The only secondary player for OSU who is 100% coming back is Damon Webb, who was by far the weakest member of their secondary this year.
OL Billy Price and DE Sam Hubbard have both announced that they're coming back next year, and JT Barrett has strongly hinted at it. They're now waiting on word from both corners Gareon Conley and Marshon Lattimore, LB Raekwon McMillan, and H-Back Curtis Samuel on draft decisions.

I thought it was a helpful synopsis. Also, anyone else more worried about the PSU game than 3 hours ago? I still like UM to win, but (likely) night game on the road against a potentially top 5 opponent.

I think we'll have more speed at linebacker too.

I am not worried about Penn State. Not a bit, actually.
USC does not possess a defense. Michigan, on the other hand, has an exceptional defense. Even with the personnel losses they will perform far better than this USC debacle.
January 2nd, 2017 at 9:02 PM ^
Well, USC was one of the hottest teams to end the year, finding ways to win with or without a strong defense. Not many teams wanted to play them at the end, and this is likea 65% USC crowd easily. PSU brings back a ton on offense, and is looking pretty good.
Time will tell if UM defense is exceptional next year, given all the personnel losses. I am hopeful, but its not like PSU isn't going to be a tough draw next year - we will know more after opening against UF next year (who just crushed Iowa). I live in FL, nothing I want more now than to start next season with a win in Dallas (and I'm still lamenting the Orange Bowl with every damn FSU license plate I see).

its not just one game - PSU (wait, wow tied!) looked about to go 12-2 after winning the B1G. I didn't think they had a legit win during their win streak (the OSU win looked fluky and lost some luster after the Clemson-sing). This win would qualify as legit for me, that's what led to my comment.

Depends. Is Chris Godwin going pro? Seems like he's ready.
PSU's offense seems to be based on two things: 1) Barkley bouncing an inside running play outside and juking everyone out and 2) McSorley running around like a headless chicken until he heaves it 50 yards downfield to Godwin, who bails him out.

I'm sure Urban will just get another 5 star to replace him.
Also fuck Counterstrike.

As for Barrett, he really has no choice but to come back. He has zero, and I mean ZERO chance to ever make it as an NFL QB. His only hope is to come back to OSU and show potential at another position as well. Maybe a slot guy, since he's a good athlete. Not an elite one, but a good one anyway. But a kid who is barely 6'0 that can't throw the ball is not meant to be an NFL QB.

Are you suggesting that Barrett is coming back and going to just switch positions after running the offense (save injuries) for the better part of the last several seasons? If you are, that is assinine to presume. The only reason Miller did it was because Barrett had already proven he was at least as good, if not better than Braxton.

for OSU? I could see running some trick plays through him as a slot. But they might be downgrading two positions by moving him. If NFL teams think he's a good enough athlete to play some other position, they'll draft him even if he stays at QB. If he's not that good an athlete, his best bet is to show real improvement as a QB.

I can't see Barrett as a WR. He's a good athlete by QB standards; by WR standards, not so much. He's not that quick on his feet and while he has decent straight-line speed, he's not a burner. RB might be possible - he is a pretty tough runner. But his best bet is probably just to try to keep developing as a QB.

He would get absolutely destroyed in the NFL as a RB. That's part of his problem, because I don't really see a position for him. Not big and strong enough to be a real option at RB. Not fast enough to be a WR, and nowhere near good enough at throwing the ball to be a good NFL QB.

Hooker was a certified beast in the secondary. Unanimous All-American, 84 tackles, 5.5 TFLs, 7 INTs, 3 pick-6s, 4 PBUs, and 0.5 sacks. I will not miss him.

Being a sad Browns fan, I have to say that Maurkice Pouncey, Marcus Gilbert, Carlos Dunlap and Joe Haden aren't too shabby.

Potential is high despite starting for one year. Has great range and elite ball skills. Some scouts comped him to Ed Reed which is a high praise but he needs to work on tackling skills.

He was a 3 star and OSU's best player.
