OT - Colorado loses to OkSt 38-8 in Alamo Bowl
The Big-12 runner-up just blew out the Pac-12 runner-up. Pac-12 might just really be that bad... Welp, good luck Washington.

I hate this argument about that game. Liufau couldn't play the second half because he was broken by our defense. Not by dirty hits and not intentionally, but by repeated contact. In football, if an O-Line can't stop defenders from hitting the QB, odds are that guy isn't going to finish the game. It isn't like he came up limping on a non-contact scramble or something.

...Sefo Liufau was picking the defense apart before he got hurt...
Revisionism at its best.

the 10 play/67 yard touchdown drive, as well as the 50 yard pass on the drive that ended with a missed fg.
removing the two bomb td's gives him 14/23 for 139 yards and 1td. they were moving the ball consistently through the air.

in a half and 1 drive. it doesn't matter how stout your defense is between bombs if it is consistently giving them up.
December 30th, 2016 at 2:54 AM ^
Take the best CB and best DE off a lot of defenses and they won't look quite as good as usual, either.

And he got hurt against Washington, and Oklahoma State, and seemingly every game this year. Doesn't say much.
December 30th, 2016 at 1:26 AM ^
happened after the initial injury against michigan. what point are you trying to make?
he's a very good qb that has been playing the vast majority of the season way below 100%.
December 30th, 2016 at 1:29 AM ^
You wanna discredit our win against Colorado then discredit every other teams' wins against Colorado.
December 30th, 2016 at 1:33 AM ^
My original comment was a reaction to OP using this result to argue that Washington is a bad team. It makes no sense.
December 30th, 2016 at 1:37 AM ^
His point isn't wrong. The Pac-12 sucks, and Washington's schedule is remarkably unimpressive for a playoff team.
December 30th, 2016 at 1:46 AM ^
of the pac 12 and big 10 are pretty damn comparable.
osu/uofm vs. washington are toss-ups, usc/colorado vs. penn st are toss-ups.
December 30th, 2016 at 1:52 AM ^
I'd have to disagree with that. OSU and Michigan are almost universally regarded as 2 of the top 3 teams in the country in advanced metrics, with Washington and USC both outside the top 5. PSU (and Wisconsin) are also ranked ahead of Colorado. The Big Ten is better at the top and deeper. IMO there's no comparison between the two conferences.
December 30th, 2016 at 1:59 AM ^
which conference is better at the top. i expect usc to roll penn st, and i'm betting on washington to cover the spread against alabama and surprise a lot of people.
but, big ten has already proven head-to-head that it's deeper (7th best big ten team beat 6th best pac-12 team, 9th best big ten team lost to 5th best pac-12 team in the last minute).
i'm not arguing pac-12 is comparable to big 10, i just don't think they're "bad."
December 30th, 2016 at 2:11 AM ^
I think USC will roll Penn State too. But then again, I think USC is the best team in the Pac-12 and probably the 2nd most talented team in the country that finally put it together over the final 2 months of the season. But the top of the Big Ten is stronger than any other conference with 4 teams in the top 8, and the middle of the conference is pretty darn strong as well with teams like Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Indiana. The Pac-12, OTOH, is the 2nd weakest power 5 conference IMO and not as strong as it's been in recent years, so "bad" in the relative sense.
December 30th, 2016 at 2:18 AM ^
just think it has much to prove this bowl season at the top.
i'm predicting clemson to beat osu, penn st to get crushed, and wisky to either outright lose or only squeak by WMU. Think Michigan will take care of business.
I don't think penn st or wisky are particularly good teams. OSU is not a great team.
But, I could obviously be wrong on each of those accounts and big ten shows out, so we'll see.
December 30th, 2016 at 10:17 AM ^
I think WMU gets rolled big time. I also think OSU will win (as much as I'd hate to see that). PSU may get crushed, but they have quite a win streak of their own going.

Colorado punted on five of the last six drives Liufau was in. He had a hot first quarter and then we settled in (sans Charlton and Lewis, BTW).

It was a game until the starting QB was knocked out in the 3rd Q.

after we knocked out their starting qb. they were winning the game when he left.
December 30th, 2016 at 1:31 AM ^
we played that game without J Lewis and Taco. You can't use the injury excuse for them and just ignore ours.
December 30th, 2016 at 1:48 AM ^
though i will say that knowing your players are unavailable the week prior to the game helps tremendously.
look at how much better colorado's back-up played the following week. our defense is great, but i'm going to give a healthy amount of credit to a week of practicing as the #1 qb.
December 30th, 2016 at 2:34 AM ^
they were winning the game when he left.No - they were down 31-28.
December 30th, 2016 at 2:40 AM ^
he was crippled on the td pass. the coach left him out there to get murdered for one more series.

They must listen to sports radio talking heads, who all said that CU would have won if Liufau wouldn't have gone out. Its a hot take from watching the box score, rather than the game.
