OT: Nike HyperAdapt 1.0, i.e., the self-lacing Back to the Future shoes
Totally off topic, but this is too cool. Nike originally designed self-lacing shoes for Back to the Future II. Marty McFly puts them on when he travels to the future - 2015.
Although Nike did demo a prototype last year (they actually gave them to Michael J Fox), just like the Cubs, they were a year late in getting us the real things.
The HyperAdapt is now available by appointment only in NYC in limited numbers for a cool $720.
I'm no sneakerhead, but I am a bit of a geek and BTTF fan, so this is just really interesting to me.
ESPN has a nice write-up on the development (see below) and there are now plenty of reviews and vides of the shoes in action across the interwebs.

You are too lazy to lace the shoes, you just bent over to put on your feet? And that will set you back $720.00 bones? I guess if you have to lace your shoes, its just because you can't afford not to.

Denard Robinson
He didn't tie his laces, and he didn't spend no $720 on shoes

I'm reminded of a certain quotation attributed to P.T. Barnum.

Money is in some respects life's fire: it is a very excellent servant, but a terrible master.
I don't see how this applies.

my favorite guilty pleasure movie of all time. So many great mid-80s movies, I'm lucky to have been born in the mid 70s.

I am hoping to get an invitation for these. Regardless of what you think of the shoes, that you could turn them around for a 1-2k profit next day makes it worth a shot

Good lord, as a design engineer I couldn't imagine spending 11 years of my career on a pair of shoes with a fucking motor in them.
