Big changes atop all-time wins, pct list with ND academic scandal
Finally found time to do new calculations.
ND has plummeted in both the all-time win percentage and all-time wins list. I doubt they'll ever be in second place ever again after this.
Yes, the games happened on the field. But that still doesn't matter in these statistics.
They should've just played school

The buckeyes have had a pretty good run. There's a popular saying that I never forget. Nothing lasts forever. Cant wait for their decline.

and getting punished for it are two different things.
November 30th, 2016 at 11:55 AM ^
for like a month, and then they got their wins back.
Maybe ND will only be punished with the loss of their wins for a short "time out" period where they sit on a chair in the corner.

It's past time for OSU to get caught. When they were caught paying recruits and players, instead of stopping like Michigan Basketball did, they denied everything and escalated the cheating.
They are just one "smoking gun" away from vacating a lot of games.
November 30th, 2016 at 8:23 PM ^
they got caught and our conference commisioner went to bat for them. I doubt they'd ever have to pay.

When are North Carolina's B-ball wins stripped as they have cheated for a long, long time?
November 30th, 2016 at 12:27 PM ^
I believe UNC is about to be let off the hook by the NCAA (and they were definitely looking for any reason) because the cheating that took place apparently benefitted more than just athletes. Regular students could take the fraudulent classes.

Anyone doing any kind of statistics correctly knows better than to use words like "never". Assuming college football doesn't get banned in the near future, literally anything could happen. But yes, this certainly sets ND way back...
November 30th, 2016 at 12:00 PM ^
And does this reflect that?
November 30th, 2016 at 12:03 PM ^
Yes, I took the stats from the preseason NCAA recordbook and added this year's records to them.
They'd have 898 wins if their 12-1 year in 2010 wasn't vacated.
November 30th, 2016 at 12:09 PM ^
Thought they had 2 or 3 seasons worth of wins vacated
November 30th, 2016 at 12:10 PM ^
Probably should've had 2001-2010 vacated.
November 30th, 2016 at 12:11 PM ^
thought you were talking about ND, not OSU

should definitely count for any player records and the stats should count for those games. The players didn't do anything wrong and were 17 and 18 when they made the worst decision of their lives in attending PSU. However, there is no reasonable way the University could argue that they deserve those wins. Such a joke. When you win off the back of a DC who people in the AD knew was molesting children is inexplicable

When the ONE good thing about your school is a pump-and-dump convicted felon who was offsides for his moment of glory in three plays of garbage time, that tarnishes the old Golden Dome a bit, doesn't it?

I'm not good at the maths, but isn't that a .737 win percentage for us rather than .731?

Ties count as half a win.
So,
935 + 18 / 1304 (games played) = .731

I'm no fan of ND but I don't like to see this happen. I'd restore the wins and punish them some other way.
November 30th, 2016 at 1:27 PM ^
Agreed. It's like the 2010 OSU team having all of their wins taken away. You can't change what happened on the field. They still kicked the living daylights out of us and won the Sugar Bowl. Just because you put an asterisk next to it does not mean it didn't happen.
Suppose its like a symbolic punishment or something, but what effect does it really have? Or its like taking away Paterno's wins. Did that really do anything to help ease the pain of all the children Sandusky preyed on and raped?
In my opinion, its a lazy punishment if that's all that happens.

Just to think, that young cocky prick irish fan who said the irish aren't far behind Michigan in all time wins. Arrogance blinds. By my expertise predictions though, shouldn't be too many more years before Notra dame evens out with the ohio university's destined decline. It's coming boys. They are peaking. When a school has to resort to that sort of craziness and cheat like that to win, something is fishy. There is a disturbance in the force. I also need to add this little part. People say Jim is crazy. Did anyone see how big of a dipshit Urban looked like running up and down the sideline trying to get the crowd fired up?That's a fucking lunatic. Can you imagine how Jim would've got made fun of?

Can Michigan somehow manage to vacate the 3-9 2008 season? Maybe resurrect and trump-up the RR practice time-limit improprieties? It would kick UM up to 0.735, and we'd still have a 41 game margin ahead of UT.
Or is a team not able to vacate losses?
November 30th, 2016 at 2:04 PM ^
You're missing Boise State!!! If your data is up to date and accurate, they have a present winning percentage of .725 (427-161-2) -- good enough for SECOND PLACE.
End-of-2015 data here, has to be brought current: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NCAA_Division_I_FBS_football_win-loss_rec…
I'd also note, your data has us having 4 fewer wins than the Wikipedia page? We should be at 939 wins, not 935?
