All can still be right with the world
Ok so I'm still obsessing #cantstop #wontstop Bold prediction: Michigan is #5 #6 in AP and coaches respectively. IF we are 5 in CFP poll Tuesday, Washington can lose to Colorado and Penn St wins big ten, goes to rose bowl. Rankings could legitimately be: Alabama OSU Clemson Michigan Alabama vs Michigan Clemson vs. OSU National championship Michigan vs OSU neutral field with unbiased refs Get the rematch we wanted in 2006. Universe is righted, all existential realms are rejuvenated for millions of lives (including my own) College Football playoff committee is jointly awarded Nobel prize for peace ✌️

Another scenario is leaving the B1G "champ" out of the top 4. I don't think the winner of that game goes despite the obvious objections.

Third place team in Big Ten east. Even Alabama wouldn't get in if they finished third in SEC west.
I think we are one of the four best, but no chance.
November 27th, 2016 at 10:57 PM ^
Well this will be the ultimate test to see just how valuable conference championships are to the committee. If Colorado beats Washington, we will have wins over the Pac 12 champion and the Big Ten champion.

Obviously it doesn't count for anything but P(edifile)SU shalt be punished for first time entry into the playoff. Politics is everywhere it shouldn't be.
OT: Lloyd Carr and urban meyer talked to ESPN in '06 about why they should be in that game. In my opinion that doesn't matter for anything, I thought Lloyd didn't really sell as much as urban did to sway voters as such(if such a thing was possible).
November 27th, 2016 at 11:53 PM ^
You're correct, Lloyd "didn't really sell as much as Urban did..." It's called class. Meyer's appeal to the voters was a damn disgrace. I've loathed him ever since.

But.... Did anybody see the tv ratings from yesterday? Harbaugh, Meyer and Saban plus who the hell cares. Ratings gold = cash.
IF OSU play M again probably highest rate game all time or close.
Yes I am biased, but it is crazy to deny money will be a factor. Plus we beat, PSU, Colorado and WI in head to head.

New Corvette? Hardly, Dude. I'd say he's still got about $960 - $970,000 left, depending on the options.

Would people be offended if I posted B1G Championship Tickets for sale here? My dad bought 4 with the intention of going if UM was in, and of gouging coworkers if OSU went. He now has 4 tickets he would like to sell...

I really think the playoff should be for champions only, but if it isn't, I would think the NCAA would love to have a rematch of a game that broke viewership and streaming records as one of its semifinals.
Not that money EVER has ANYTHING to do with the decisions made by "The Committee..."
November 28th, 2016 at 12:53 AM ^
I definitely feel like I can see your argument there, and even agree with it in some principled ways.
But let's remember that even though it's called a "Playoff", it is in no way similar to any playoff in modern professional sports anywhere.
NBA - 30 teams - 82 games - 16 playoff teams
NHL - 30 teams - 82 games - 16 playoff teams
MLB - 30 teams - 162 games - 10 playoff teams
NFL - 32 teams - 16 Games - 12 playoff teams
CFB - 65 teams (P5) - 8/9 games - 4 playoff teams
Hand-selecting 4 teams and calling it a "Playoff" is a little misleading, because it doesn't resemble/have anything to do with "Playoffs" as we know them here in American sports.
I mean, do you remember seeing MSU play Alabama last year? How do you think Penn State would do if they were BIG Champs and played Bama?
I get that people want to respect tradition, but the fact of the matter is that if you want to see the best games, you can't mechanically rely on the statistically insignificant algorithm of "Wins-Losses" (which is what is sending PSU to the BIG-CG right now--despite being decimated by UM and squeaking out a night-time home win over OSU)
November 27th, 2016 at 6:02 PM ^
If Washington and Clemson win out, nothing matters.
They are going to take the winner of PSU/Wisconsin.
They are going to take Alabama win or lose.
Clemson and Washington win and they're in.
If Washington loses (Clemson won't lose), maybe they take OSU.
I am rooting for anything to happen that keeps OSU out of the playoff.
If Clemson AND Washington lose, we still won't go. There is just no way they will anger the world and the SEC by taking 3 teams from one conference. Some other team will mysteriously move up to take the 4th spot to keep the big ten from having 3 teams.
November 27th, 2016 at 6:36 PM ^
but I bet they still take OSU over Penn State/ Wisconsin. I'm rooting for Penn State because they would have h2h and conf champ over OSU but even if PSU wins i think it will be
Alabama
Osu
Clemson
Washington
November 27th, 2016 at 6:51 PM ^
There is good reason why Penn St. was at #7 in the last rankings. They don't view them as a top 4 team.
November 28th, 2016 at 1:00 AM ^
100%.
PSU beating Wisc (whom both Michigand and OSU both beat) does not suddenly mean PSU is better than Michigan or OSU (hell, obviously OSU is better than PSU)
When Michigan lost to Iowa, they dropped only one spot from #2 to #3. Because why? Because Michigan wasn't suddenly "worse" than PSU or Louisville or Washington.
People's minds are still stuck in "BCS Mode" where the BCS computers and voters gave a harsh penalty to those who lost, often dropping them 5 spots minimum.
It's so interesting to see how the highly arbitrary logic of college football rankings are embedded into fans' heads.

OSU is an unholy lock, unfortunately. If Washington and Clemson win, we have our four teams, no matter what happens in the B1G championship game. If one of those two lose, the B1G champion joins Alabama, OSU and the other 1-loss team.
November 27th, 2016 at 7:00 PM ^
The CFP Committee surely watched the entire game and objectively saw the reffing disaster.
Perhaps they were offended and are open to leaving Michigan at #3 -- moving us down to #4 when a Conference Champion looks good next week.
Would i bet money on it, no. But this scenario is entirely possible.
Most posters here aren't focusing on the worst (non) call of the day. Early in the game when two nuts tackled Grant Perry on a third down pass that killed a drive.
November 27th, 2016 at 6:55 PM ^
This is where you really wish they hadn't lost to shitty Iowa. There is no way 3 teams from the same conference get in. We are looking at the Rose or the Orange.
November 27th, 2016 at 7:33 PM ^
November 27th, 2016 at 6:59 PM ^
This seems so crazy but it's true. Penn St. beat OSU and we won big on them and beat Wisconson by 7 (should've been 16 but, hey, field goals) and with a Colorado win sending Washington out of top 4, we have to go over them as we beat them handily. It would need a lot of discussing in that dreaded conference room, but, It could theoretically happen.
November 28th, 2016 at 1:13 AM ^
Yes but in that case the three factors are:
-Common Opponents
-Head-to-Head
-Conference Champ
The Common Opponents are many, because we're in the same division, but looking them glancingly we beat common opponents more soundly. This bodes very well for Michigan.
The Head-to-Head we smashed them. This again bodes very well for Michigan.
The Conference Champ will of course be their main selling point, but the narrative of them getting there will be an eeked out win over a stalling OSU at home at night. This will be their main selling-point, and since they don't have any others, it needs to be as large a selling-point as possible.
So, if they win the BIG-Title, the key will be, "how", they will need to SMASH Wisconsin, because otherwise they just look like a team that very much lucked into the Title game. PSU needs a convincing win. Then they'd have a strong argument.
Which I don't think happens.
Michigan on the other hand, really needs a Clemson or Washington loss. If that happens, then it will absolutely open up the door for Michigan to have a case (particularly if you look at the details of their loss to OSU--which will of course happen).
November 27th, 2016 at 7:16 PM ^
If you can't win your conference you shouldn't be able to dance- period
November 27th, 2016 at 8:52 PM ^
correct me if wrong, but:
M beats 2 teams head to head that are now playing in conf championship
M beats Colorado who is now playing in conf championship
osu is still considered the 2nd best team in country with a loss and a near loss at home in a 2OT game w highly questionable officiating
osu still considered 2nd best team in country although losing to PSU who could win the conference
osu still considered 2nd best team in country although didn't win their division
M now drops below Wisconsin in rankings although won in head to head
M's 2 losses by a total of 4 points
Not really complaining. Just - WOW!.....
November 27th, 2016 at 7:51 PM ^
but no one outside of Ohio State and Michigan fans would be happy about this scenario.
Its sort of like that LSU vs Bama BCS Championship game (the game was super boring), and no one wanted to watch a re-match...

A lot more information out today. Perhaps all of you have already seen it. Pretty compelling from ESPN's own cameras that the spot was bad, and the only 2 people connected with sports I've seen who will not come out directly and claim that Michigan stopped OSU are Kirk Herbstreit and Chris Fowler.
Do I think the CFP will do the right thing? No.
But they're going to face a ton of controversy no matter what they do, and I'm sure they know. I'm also sure they know that we're going to an 8-team playoff very soon.
The win for OSU can't be overturned, but if the CFP has any balls at all (which I'm sure they don't), they put Michigan at #2 Tuesday evening.
November 28th, 2016 at 9:08 AM ^
That Michigan D would line up better than OSU, but will they reward that with the #2 ranking? Not going to happen.
