Looked like fun...wish we would've at least called a hail mary on 4th down rather than running the ball.

Agreed. Let JO'K sling into the endzone and see what happens, maybe you at least get a PI.

O'Korn not that impressive. Defense played their usual great game. I will take the win. Move on to OSU and a chance to reach all of our goals.
November 19th, 2016 at 7:21 PM ^
It was his first start in TERRIBLE conditions.
I really can't fault JO'K today. I'm not saying he's better than Speight.
But think back to Speight's first start...or his second...or his third...or anytime before the bye week.
Do you REALLY think he'd be that much better in that weather? Not really.

I can't help but come back to the fact that it was - at about 5 PM or so yesterday - 73 degrees in my backyard, and of course it was perfectly enjoyable, wearing shorts and raking leaves and doing things that many years are impossible to do at this time of the year without survival gear. No, I had to wait until the fucking game this week to wear suvival gear.

Playing this game in yesterday's weather would have been boring. In the snow it was awesome.

It was a cool scene. It actually looked like a recruiting advantage.
You can't usually say that about snow during a football game.

Not all wins are pretty - gutsy win by our boys today. Thoroughly enjoying a great season!
And hoops is fun too!

It must have been a shock for some, Tory Carter had never been further north than Atlanta. As an aside, I wonder if he ran into Les Miles. Must be weird to have the coach you committed to visiting too.

Why not? It was Les' OV too.

Pretty cool last game to have as a Senior. They'll remember that the rest of their lives.

It's surprisingly rare at Michigan. I've been going to Michigan games since 1982 and I don't remember a single time where snow covered the field like today.

The '92 Illinois game was like this, except the snow fell more steadily during the game. We had a ton of fumbles and ended up needing a long field goal to tie, 22-22.
2008 Northwestern had some sleet, IIRC. I don't remember if there was snow accumulation.

It's really hilarious that I haven't thought about this, since I went to that game back when I only went to a game or so per season. My strongest memories of it are the dissatisfaction of playing for a tie at the end.

Ok, check that. I looked at the Michigan Replay ep on Youtube (link) and there was no snow visible in the footage, better matching my memory. (Something I didn't remember: 10 fumbles for Michigan, plus a couple of picks. Extraordinarily sloppy). Perhaps a different year against Illinois, such as 1993, which was a loss but also in Michigan Stadium?

I remember it snowing during '92 Illinois (it had to be that game - it was the only one I attended that season as well). Maybe the snow fell before the game and was cleared off? I'm not sure. I'm fairly certain at any rate that the weather conditions contributed to the huge number of fumbles.
November 19th, 2016 at 10:35 PM ^
I think they talk about the bad conditions in the Michigan Replay clip, so there's that. And it was the right time of year. Nothing visible on screen to me, though.

I was at the '92 Illinois game, I don't remember any noteworthy snow. I do remember the tie though.
Then I watched the Fab Five in an open practice right after the game. Jimmy King dunked the ball and it bounced back out of the basket off his own head. You think they hot-dogged it during a game, you should have seen them during an open practice. Looked like an NBA All Star game . . . which it was.
November 20th, 2016 at 9:34 AM ^
Oh yes, I remember that open practice at Crisler. Nice way to warm up after the game. That was an awesome time to be a Michigan fan - five consecutive Big Ten championships in fooball, the Fab Five in basketball, multiple Frozen Fours in hockey...

Temperature dropped a good 20 plus degrees in the hour before kickoff

Back in the late 70's, there was a foot, or so, on the ground when OSU came to town. The fans were throwing snowballs from the top row at the OSU band lining up to come in. Or maybe they were already in? Ahh, so long ago! Anyway, the important thing is that snowballs were hitting the OSU band...
