Harbaugh Confirms: Clark Out for the Year w/ Torn ACL
I know the board doesn't like DetNews, so no need to click the link, but Angelique Chengelis is reporting that
Coach Jim Harbaugh confirmed Monday that Clark suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the Penn State game last Saturday.
Harbaugh said he will lobby the NCAA to get a sixth year for Clark, a fifth-year senior.

Watson was last seen playing the deer in headlights position against Colorado. One of those freshman is going to play a significant role.

Fortuntately, it's getting easier to track who hates Michigan again.

I hope he had an Ed Davis or Devin Gardner type injury his freshman year.
Also, does the board not like the Detroit News? I was only aware of our dislike of the Free Press.

There's a strip club by the marina with an excellent buffet and satellite TV.

Good luck, and our thanks to Clark! Once a Wolverine, always a Wolverine. Not the way anybody wanted it to end, but maybe he'll get a chance on Sundays....

So he obviously gets a sixth year. He wasn't even scout team player of the week for almost an entire year so falsifying his original redshirt should be super-easy. Great move by Harbaugh to guarantee some corner depth next year.
September 26th, 2016 at 1:16 PM ^
It would be great to go one year without a season-ending injury to a key defensive player.
September 26th, 2016 at 1:37 PM ^
Most teams deal with injuries to both sides of the ball on a yearly basis. It isn't something specific to Michigan.

Go back to the annex.

So a team with an easy early schedule can play a kid for 7 games, then pretend he has an injury for the tough 5 games at the end, and get an extra year of eligibility because of a "back injury"?
September 26th, 2016 at 1:39 PM ^
Conference games shouldn't have anything to do with the rule. (What, Notre Dame gets a free pass?)
I'd prefer they either allow everyone to have two redshirt years -- perhaps the second one requires an independent doctor's evaluation -- or they disallow them for everyone. A tough break, admittedly, but that's life.
I feel terrible for Clark, and I hope he gets a chance to play next year if he wants to do so. But I have no idea whether or not he was hurt his freshman year. Harbaugh might not either -- he wasn't here. So we're in a situation where obvious, self-serving fraud may be rewarded. (Ed Davis may be the most blatant case for us, but let's not throw stones -- Devin Gardner played early as a true freshman and then got a questionable redshirt himself).
The NCAA should just admit that it can't enforce the current rules and come up with a rule that it actually can enforce.

That sucks, obviously. Hopefully Clark can get a 6th year, and that a couple of the younger guys can step in. Having Lewis back helps quite a bit.
September 26th, 2016 at 1:28 PM ^
Stribling seems to have improved this year, but it's been a while since we've had three corners who are this good. It's unfortunate that Clark got hurt, but lots of teams deal with injury issues in one form or another. Hopefully we can stay relatively healthy through the rest of the year.

Well poop. Hopefully Harbaugh can successfully petition to get him a sixth year, but knowing the NCAA's hilariously bad inconsistency, I doubt it'll happen.
If there's any silver lining to this, its probably that this gives the younger guys more of an opportunity to gain experience and assert themselves for starting roles next year. We need guys like Hill and Long to be ready next year.

He looked great this season. With his size and speed combo, I was thinking he could have been drafted. Praying he still gets a chance.
September 26th, 2016 at 1:55 PM ^
Just after getting my hopes up because of Jourdan Lewis, damn. Hope he gets a sixth year both for the team and his future, could be a much higher nfl draft pick if he isn't still recovering from an acl during the draft.

Hopefully, he'll get that sixth year - it would definitely be nice to have Clark for one more year. As for the present, however, having Lewis back is huge and I think between him and Peppers that at least some of the experience that we might see from younger players in the secondary can be be mitigated, and that for a unit whose young players are still looking rather good. For the short-term anyway, I tend to believe we'll be OK.
Wishing Clark a speedy recovery all the same.
September 26th, 2016 at 2:12 PM ^
What an unfortunate way to go down. Here's hoping that we see Mr. Clark in the maize and blue next year!
September 26th, 2016 at 2:31 PM ^
Does the conference have any say in a medical redshirt? Or is that just the wink-wink, played in 3 games, still gets a RS that freshman year thing
September 26th, 2016 at 2:37 PM ^
I was heartbroken seeing that injury. A silver lining would be for Jeremy to be the alpha dog at a position of need for the 2017 campaign. However, pinning my hopes on the NCAA is like a PSU fan pinning their hopes on Franklin.

If he gets denied, I'm personally going to launc the "Ed Davis fund for uncovering corruption (or just idiotic incompetence) in the NCAA and its affiliated organizations".
