OT - You Know Spring is Here When...
Mates,
I love winter as much or more than most, but even I can appreciate the fact that spring is basically here, on time, this year. Among the signs up north that it really is here:
1. There is almost no snow on the farm, and all of it will be gone by tomorrow.
2. Thunder is rolling along by the house....in March.
3. The spring peepers were out last night for the first time. If you've never heard them, it is a symphony put on by these little frogs who come out by the hundreds down by the pond. It is easily one of my favorite spring/summer sounds:
4. The barn pump didn't freeze this year. That's kind of a big deal b/c when it does, the kids have to huck 5 gal pails of water down to the livestock a few times a day. Good work for them, but the past two winters it's been 5 months of frozen pump.
And Your signs of spring are......?

Definitely the third thing (frogs) on the OP's list. It's a good memory of rural Michigan for me.

When we make our annual spring trip to the cabin up north we take a night hike to the swamp just to take in the sounds. It can get so loud that I've had a hard time hearing my bro talk. We used take our instruments down with us to rock out and do a swamp jam until the drunk friend who can't control himself tripped and knocked my buddies keyboad into the swamp. Before that many good times were had. I think the frogs loved us.

I was gonna say Masters ads start showing up on TV, but the first one popped up in January this year so forget that. Felt like seeing a mall Santa in September.
And my dog going psychotic during t storms.
Nice post EM.

This is very subjective and definitely depends on the person.
I'm moving to California this year and probably will be back eventually, but seriously the only part of Michigan I could see myself living in long term would be Ann Arbor. Metro Detroit is just so bland, Lansing is god-awful, and GR is nice but definitely not my taste.
its really quite nice up here. you can have a lot of fun in cal, and heaven knows that pretty girls grow on trees out there, but the price you pay in other areas of your life is substantial.
Cray?
don't miss cal for one nano-second. glad for my time there, great experiences, but i am so glad to be home.
and yeah, homeboy is not slinging any rock cocaine when the snow plows are out. and they aren't shooting many people either. when the weather gets warm in socal, its time for homicides. had my share for a few lifetimes.

Beautiful place, but couldn't get out of California fast enough.
Florida gets Oberon year round, too. It might have been the only good part of living in Florida for two years. Maybe that and Cigar City.
Well, when the Bradford Pears start to bloom by my office... They are pretty, but they smell like butt. And other things.

No fruit compares to a good mango. I didn't realize that this was up for debate.

When the puppies come out. Not the four-legged kind.
I was going to say when them girlies start rollerblading at the Arb. Does that make me old? Do people still rollerblade?
