OT: MGoVacation horror stories
Since there is exactly nothing going on today I thought we could share some vacation horror stories. You know, the kind where someone ends up in the hospital, handcuffs, or both.
I don't want to hear about your recent trip to Hawaii, unless a shark bit your foot off.

years ago I sunburned my eyeballs during a golf-athon weekend. Yes, my eyeballs. You want to talk about uncomfortable. Had to lay with my eyes open with a cold wet rag on my face over my eyes.
Piece of advice. Don't sunburn your eyeballs.

This happened to my Dad during a family ski trip. He thought he was cool without sunglasses or goggles and spent the next few days lying with a wet rag on his face. no fun
just wasn't a sunglasses guy at the time. I learned my lesson.

Holy crap your girlfriend was a complete bitch. Goes on a trip with you the whole time knowing she's thinking about ending the relationship. That's kind of fucked up.

Not my story, but a buddy of mine. He was in undergrad and went on vacation in Florida with his girlfriend's family. He was acting all funny and his gf asked him what was up, and he said he wanted to break up. It was Tuesday. They weren't supposed to go home until Sunday. And his dad was a 6'4" cop and brute of a man. My friend was a 5'10" 140 lb drama major. We all razzed him about it being a must lie situation. Say everything's ok, break up a couple weeks later.
The worst part is that he didn't learn his lesson. His next girlfriend was from Texas, so she went home after she graduated. In the summer, she was going to come up for about a month to visit him and some friends around Michigan and look for jobs up here. First week she is at his place, he breaks up with her. Then he has to drive her from Novi, where he lived, to Cheboygan to her friend's.
bacon1431's college roommate: just ruining vacations for loved ones.
Although, I hung around for a few days, and we are still good friends. Her husband is one of my favorite people.

How can you be friends with a person whose genitals have been in your mouth, and vice versa? Maybe I'm old fashioned, but it just seems inappropriate to me.
I never thought of it that way before. Now I'll only think of it that way.

I would also find that friendship to be awkward and inappropriate.
/I know it's 2016. But it's 1953 inside my house.
Wouldn't it have been way easier for everyone to just break up BEFORE the trip? Saves you even the hassle of having to awkwardly lie until the trip ended, not to mention probably saves everybody some money.
I had the opposite experience.
My ex and I had broken up a couple years previous. We were still friends - just friends, I thought. I flew out to Arizona with her to hang out for a few days and then help her drive her car back to AA.
The day I get there, she starts dropping major hints about getting back together, playing these ridiculous love songs all the time, ugh. It was terrible. She kept it up the whole time, despite me completely ignoring everything, the whole drive through like 82 states back to Michigan.
Needless to say we didn't remain friends after that.
A friend had recommended South Point as a good cliff diving experience. This is a 40+ ft drop off the southernmost point of the US into the pacific.
I go first and hit the water feet first. The (now ex) wife loses control mid jump and lands on her butt - major bruising from her lower back to her calves. The deep purple and black kind.
It put a damper on the rest of the trip. Oh and it was her idea to cliff jump.

A damper eh? That doesn't sound like you.
And when the man woke up she was still in his bed! Ahhhhhhh!
And she said I'll make you some eggs! Ahhhhhhhh!
And he said no I've gotta go to work and she said OK I'll drive you! Ahhhhhhhhh!
And he said no it's like 30 minutes away and she it's fine it's right by my kid's preschool! Ahhhhhh! Ahhhhhhhh! Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!

I'd easily rate a 4.
I'm just generous that that way.
Honeymoon with now ex-wife, we decided to cheap out on the wedding and blow the money on the honeymoon. Went to Bora Bora and Tahiti. Had everything planned out ahead of time, what we were going to do, exploring, hiking, snorkeling etc. We get there and she changes her tune, doesn't want to do anything. We ended up doing two things on our itinerary.... snorkeling with sharks and a massage.
We were supposed to do two day trips to two other islands island, never happened, we were supposed to go scuba diving at the entrance of the lagoon, didn't happen. Hike to various WW2 naval guns in the jungle, nope, hike to the highest accessible point on Bora Bora, NOPE. So basically we flew down to one of the most expensive, unique and beautiful places in the world and did....nothing for 8 days.
At the time it should have been a signal that she wasn't the one...still chaps my ass to this day and I'm saving money to go back next year and do all those things that I missed out on.
Some advice; be flexible on vacation. Not everyone likes a schedule on vacation, you know, because we have to live by a schedule every single day of our lives.
It's vacation, you shouldnt have to do anything. If you wanted to godo those things and she didnt, then why didnt you go yourself?
I realize that, but I left out the important part, she was the one that wanted to do most of these things and we had laid out the plan to do those things months in advance because it's a remote location and those day trips to other islands required advanced planning. Just getting anywhere down there requires a modicum of planning because there isn't much in the way of reliable transportation. In fact, she was the one that was wanted to travel to the South Pacific in the first place.
And I couldn't do things without her because "it was our honeymoon" and we had to spend it together no matter what. She went full control freak on me that week which she had never done before in our relationship. Without deep diving too much it marked a paradigm shift in our relationship and eventually would lead to our divorce because that control freak behavior morphed into full on emotional/mental abuse by her. So yeah, I'm still way salty about that trip and it was 5 years ago.
I hear you. That is terrible. Good on you for getting out of the relationship.

women doing a complete 180 personality shift after the marriage? Oh my, never heard of that happening before! Though you seemed to get a special one, just took her a few days after the wedding for the 180 to happen, usually it's a couple years!
And that guys, is why you sign a prenup/stash money away/protect yourself.
dont mean to change the subject, but didnt want to create a whole post. Is search not working for anyone else?
Just watch out for big spiders and avoid caves at all costs.
since the ghost town out west. (another Brady vacation-fail)
Make sure to collect some unique Hawaiian rocks and bring them home!

Don't bring kids. Your vacation will be much more fun without them. Plus you won't end up ruining someone's flight when they start misbehaving on the plane.
