Bad situation for all involved. Good Luck, Caris!

If true, that seems like a really dumb thing to do. He hasn't played much in the last two seasons. He really needed to be on the court to improve his draft stock.
Oh, and he shoots 40% from three. Kid doesn't need to prove anything.
Well, he certainly won't be a lottery pick anymore.
He needs to prove that he can stay healthy, which is a pretty big deal for draft scouts. Don't get me wrong, I think Caris is a great player, but I'm looking at this from the perspective of scouts. He missed 26 of his final 36 conference games.
Kid doesn't need to prove anything, except that he can stay healthy.
If you were an NBA GM, would you pick a small-framed 6'6" wing who hasn't been able to last more than 10 games the last 2 college seasons? It doesn't make sense that this decision was made for any other reason than it was the only correct medical decision.
It's unfortunate for him and for Michigan fans, but hopefully it's what he needs to stay healthy long-term.
How can you prove you can stay healthy when you don't play?
Plus his draft stock isn't going to be affected much when we have 3ish games left. Somebody has to take the fall for this. Sanderson if he is still too injured to play and Beilein if he is holding out a healthy player out.
Duncan Robinson survived the season.
So far.
Had he not played against Purdue, could he have red-shirted?

...he made the right decision.
If he was going to do that, why wouldn't he have just gone pro after last year?
But I'll say it again - Beilein, his assistants, sanderson/the strength and conditioning staff, the medical staff, some or all of them, is totally fucking up. It is not a coincidence at this point. Why was Caris allowed to play against Purdue? Why have we had 3 straight seasons in which players went out there and played with nagging injuries that turned into season-enders (McGary, Walton, now Caris).
They need to take a serious look at this situation - something is going wrong.
Neg away.
Let me just stop you here - no one gets sent to Bolivia for their opinions, but they do get sent to Bolivia from time to time for their reactions to disagreement regarding those opinions or for the way in which those opinions are phrased, if they are phrased in a manner meant to be confrontational or abusive rather than in a way to spark discussion.
Your trip, as I recall, was for your reaction to the unpopularity of the opinion (calling everyone "babies" - yeah, that's constructive) as well as how it was presented, so while you might remember it differently (they all seem to think it is for the opinion itself, which whatever), please don't say that it was the opinion itself which earned you the trip.

This is the only comment of yours I can recall in which I agree with you.
Does Spike count in this? he came back from a back injury for a very short time, then shortly after, he was no longer playing.
He had surgery on both hips in the offseason.
If anything, him getting shut down hurts his NBA future. As others have stated, he hasn't been fully healthy the last 3 years. The biggest question mark now with the NBA is can he stay healthy? Shutting him down in no way helps his draft stock.
Also if Caris' main concern was the NBA draft, then he would have left last year. He came back to play because he loves Michigan and wanted to take this team far in the tournament. Sure he may have seen an increamental bump in draft position if he played amazing. But he could have looked at it the other way too and said what if I get hurt and my draft stock goes down. So I don't think anyone should question Levert on this subject.
you richly deserve to be negged. [he could have simply left after last year]
what was/is actually wrong with him?
guessing 1) high ankle sprain, 2) in poor condition from lack of play, 3) rusty game that would likely hamper the team more than help it at this point. This sounds like an "all things considered" kind of decision.
Sad end to a career. Hopefully he'll recover and be ready for the NBA.
Sad to hear. Good luck in the future, Caris!
Thanks Caris. Best of luck to you in the future!
I wonder if we'll ever get more info on the injury besides "lower leg injury".

Unfortunately, a bigger damper on his senior day is going to be UM getting smoked.
because we all know that college basketball goes exactly as expected!!
Purdue.
Not sure Michigan beating Iowa in Ann Arbor would really be that big of an upset.
I want to know how'd "you" get to be a part of "we"? Beilein let you on the team with that attitude?
Thanks for taking the time to tell "us" how "you" feel but I think "we" got it from here.
...more guys to injuries and (in McGary's case) suspensions over the course of a couple of years.
This stinks for Caris and everyone else.
that any of this could possibly be attribituable to staff failures. All of it must be just bad luck, because how could Beielin and his staff be anything but perfect? After all, they've had 2 good teams in 9 years - they are virtually a pack of John Woodens.
3 guys played hurt, in 3 straight years, lost for the season. McGary injured while training with Sanderson. Caris has 2 lower leg injuries after Sanderson puts 50 pounds on him in 2 years.
McGary dresses, unnecessarily, in a tournament game, resulting in a drug test. Nobody on the staff realizes that this could be a problem.
The hypocrisy on this board is hilarious - Brady Hoke is castigated for the Shane Morris situation but if you even suggest that this staff is any way responsible for the health issues and other massive roster fuckups you are a monster. Lest we forget that Beilein let Florida steal his senior starting center one year when we needed big men, then cut a big man - who is now playing major minutes for the big ten champ- FOR AN EMPTY SCHOLARSHIP in another year where we needed big men.
Neg away.

He's had great moments as a coach as well. I don't think he should be fired for the same reason Carr shouldn't have been fired. But the bottom line is this staff is fucking up.
how the hell is he responsible? Thank god there's not a single person involved in sports at a serious level who'd place the blame on JB for injuries.
I suppose it's Harbaugh's fault last year for the defensive line health issues at the end of the year?
You can tell who the poster are who've been around/played sports throughout their entire lives from the one's who were in their bedrooms playing Madden.
Coaching staffs are constantly on their players about drug use. Coaching staffs know that when they go to NCAA events, there is drug testing. I am absolutely certain they tell their players that they will be drug tested at NCAA events.
McGary was smoking pot, because why the fuck not? He is a college kid and he was done playing basketball for the year. So it makes sense that they would not be monitoring him or staying on him about drugs.
But when he said, "hey coach, I want to dress for this game," somebody, out of the 4 coaches and tons of other operations people and directors of such and such and managers, should have thought about the implications for drug testing and talked to him to make sure he was in position to pass a test.
come on, man. Hindsight is a beautiful thing, isn't it?
Truth is NONE of us know what goes on in the program; stop being so judgy.
positive drug test is Beilein's fault. Wow. That is taking it to a place it has not been before. This is getting comical.
Coaches aren't responsible when their players use drugs? Ok
smoking pot is Beilein's fault. Lol
