M's 2 invitees were 2nd worst in the B1G - only Purdue had fewer. And M Won 10 games. Bodes well for next year.

Rudock didn't help himself at the Shrine Game with his less than impressive performance that included an INT.
Not really sure why Joe Bolden not being invited should be a surprise, he was less than impressive for the entire season.

That Shrine game was a joke, and I can't believe any NFL scout in their right mind took it seriously.
Rudock got a hilariously small amount of playtime and it was readily apparently that entire team was poorly coached (Thanks, Charlie Weis), and that he had awful communication with his receivers.
February 11th, 2016 at 3:35 PM ^
That may continue to haunt Jake, especially in a back up role.
February 11th, 2016 at 3:50 PM ^
NFl scouts take the practices much more seriously than the game. The game means little to the draft stock. Rudock has been okay but not great.
February 11th, 2016 at 4:42 PM ^
Rudock will get picked up as undrafted FA, is my guess. Jimbo's word has iron in the NFL.

I would love to see him get his medical school paid for. I really don't know if he has the arm strength for the long ball and I do know that is why Big John hung around the league for a few years. Coming out of college, many analysts said not too many threw it deep with the touch he had.. I know Jake showed good velocity on mid-range balls, the type certain teams, i.e., the Pats live off. I could see him being a very dependable back-up once he learns a system. The job he did for us was fantastic. I am just happy Ferentz gave him the news early so he could have other options.
Bolden, and even Desmond might have been solid contributors for us in years gone by, but then when I look at some of our MLB play from those days, that too seems like it might be a stretch. Although we didn't have many that went onto the next level and stick, that changed drastically when we put an emphasis on speed. I don't know if we had a faster pair than Jones and Gold. I do recall when Gold was a senior at Bellvue high school, I was earning my wings under two HOF coaches, one who was all ready in. And they thought Bellvue, based largely on Gold's talent, was the team to beat in Class A that season. There were a couple before them I thought had NFL potential, namely Irons and Morrison. But obviously, the thing that was missing was that half of step. Both great at the collegiate level though.

"M's 2 invitees were 2nd worst in the B1G - only Purdue had fewer"
To be fair, we have two guys on the roster who were eligible to declare that would have received invites had they declared.
February 11th, 2016 at 3:10 PM ^
Wormley definitely would've gotten an invite as well.
February 11th, 2016 at 3:12 PM ^
Jourdan Lewis would've gotten an invite hands down if he chose to leave. Same with Jake Butt.
February 11th, 2016 at 4:02 PM ^
I figured those were the two that were being mentioned.
February 11th, 2016 at 3:25 PM ^
Ah, yes you're right. So three.

was not technically wrong :)

Those who have a great week of practice and then fail to execute.

Those who go to Florida for spring break.

Thus the bodes well for next year part of the statement.

I'll take "Quotes Only Seen in NFL Scouting Reports" for 1000 Alex...
From Henry link:
"Needs to unlock his juice off the snap to control neutral zone and make more tackles for losses."
UNLOCK THAT JUICE!!!
February 11th, 2016 at 3:43 PM ^
It's really just good life advice. I think we should all unlock our juice daily, maybe twice a day when able.

Nothing made me more angry than the BS encroachments calls generated when the QB WOULD FALSE START. Well, excepet the Bolden ejection. Those two evens made me flat out livid.

I think he could. But the combine has averaged < 20 QB invites the last 3 years, and that counts across all divisions. I'm not sure it will hurt him too much, since it didn't seem like he was going to get drafted regardless.
I'd like to think he will find a spot as a FA, though.
February 11th, 2016 at 3:42 PM ^
he's gonna be that reliable back-up who we're surprised to see is still on someone's roster 8 years from now. Making close to a million bucks a year not to play at all ain't bad

Mayock has Glasgow as his #5 Guard.

Also, Bolden listed as the #2 Snub

But the concern with him is that he's maxed himself out. He's similar to Molk in that way, both were very much undersized that were very successful in college with great technique and tenacity.
Allen is likely a bit stronger than Molk was, but that isn't necessarily a positive for his draft position. Molk was more of a finesse player that fits into a certain system, so the fact that he was undersized is mitigated by the style he best excels at. Allen isn't as much of a finesse player, so there is more importance on his length and ability to handle NFL sized DTs in a down block/drive block scheme. That doesn't necessarily help him.
As for Glasgow, I think he's probably an OG at the NFL level that can swing into Center if need be. He had issues with snaps and I think that hurt some of his ability as a blocker as well (he wasn't as natural coming out of his stance as a center). But he's more traditionally sized for an interior OL, maybe even a bit taller than most (with average to above average length). So that bodes really well for him.
By the way, Allen is a 5.51 and Glasgow a 5.5, and Mayock has them both ranked 5 for their position. So essentially equal.

Rudock not being invited is a fucking travesty. This is horseshit.
February 11th, 2016 at 3:39 PM ^
Or am I wrong?
February 11th, 2016 at 3:51 PM ^
The QB group isn't very strong up top this year, but it is quite deep. Rudock is likely in the same grouping as many of these other players as guys hoping to get picked up at the end of the draft (or perhaps hoping not to get picked up so they can go the UFA route). The only one I'd for sure say he's better than would be Stave, who I'm very surprised was invited.
The big thing that separates Rudock from many of these other guys, though, is what is known. Scouts have a pretty good feel for what Rudock is, how he operates in multiple pro-style systems, what he knows, etc. That isn't the case for many of these other guys. Vernon Adams was up and down last year, in a spread system, trying to translate to the next level, lots of questions about him. Boykin is the same, a guy who put up great numbers a few years ago, also a guy a lot of teams probably want to interview more closely. Hackenbery has all the potential in the world, but his situation at PSU leaves a ton of question marks. So on and so forth. There are more things scouts want to weed out with these other prospects than they do for Rudock.
I still think Rudock gets picked up in the draft, though it isn't a certainty. I think the biggest thing in Rudock's favor is what he is and the systems he comes from. He can step into training camp immediately, understand the playbook, and execute the playbook, without having to take a bunch of time to get up to speed. This means coaches don't have to work with him as much just to be able to scout the other players in training camp. He's a very valuable training camp asset that also has the chance at making a decent backup QB. A late round pick is worth it in that case, especially for teams with a lot of picks.
February 11th, 2016 at 6:41 PM ^
Is that means if he does get drafted, he's more likely to be drafted by a bad team. That alone can be career killer.
February 12th, 2016 at 11:07 AM ^
Bad teams are sometimes bad for good reasons.
I.E. Horrible Quarterback play
Can be opportunity as fans will always clamor to try something and a coach on the rocks/GM will appease fans when they're that bad.
Bad Oline
Starters could get murdered, or so could poor Jake.
Bad Coaching
This is the biggest worry, some people just won't help a quarterback or don't know how.
February 11th, 2016 at 3:51 PM ^
I mean Joel Stave got an invite....
February 11th, 2016 at 3:53 PM ^
they will have to wait until the pro day at UM to impress, which just gives them more time. I am surprised they weren't invited along with Morgan seeing UM is coming off a 10 win season and guys like Morgan and Bolden were part of a great defense, even if they were probably the weak link of it.
February 11th, 2016 at 4:14 PM ^
doesn't mean anything as far as NFL draft prospect goes. NFL scouts do not give a shit if you're playing on a #1 ranked defense. What matters to them is can you play in the next level?
