I am working today, but I slept in a little bit and left for work a little later. I definitely would rather be at home reflecting on the civil rights movement right now.

My kids don't get MLK Day off of school. They don't get Presidents' Day off either...but they do say The Pledge of Allegiance every morning.

I never got MLK day off until I started at UofM...when we'd spend MLK day at the auto show in Detroit every year. Good times.

to see Dr. King speak in person a few months before he was assassinated.

Very cool. Considering it is MLK day, care to expand on that a bit for the board with a story?

If I do, it'll be a diary.
January 18th, 2016 at 9:16 AM ^
Sure, if you don't though.. you have to list all of the things you did instead of sharing a cool story on MLK with the board.

on the importance of labor unions in promoting the cause of the oppressed?
January 18th, 2016 at 8:53 AM ^
My memory of his exact words that night is hazy, but I'd be surprised if he didn't mention that. However, I do know a good deal of his speech had to with the war in Vietnam, which he had become a vocal critic of.

Imagine how different the racial narrative would feel had this man no been assassinated. Maybe I am naive in thinking that, but damn, he had the gravitas, intelligence, and passion that all too few leaders have.
