Big week for me at work, so I'm celebrating with a beer (or two) that is decidedly un-macho. Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin.
Before you mock it, try it. We ain't talkin' Bud Light Lime here! I usually limit my adjuncts to coffee in stouts and porters, but this is just freakin' delicious.
Cheers, all!

Ballast Point Sculpin is delicous w/ or w/o the grapefruit flavoring.
November 20th, 2015 at 8:09 PM ^
Two obvious points:
- Of course it's ridiculous to term any beverage "macho" or "unmacho". Folks should drink what they like. If a guy enjoys a Pink Squirrel or a Cosmo, ride and prevail, brother!
- For all of that, some beverages are deemed to be less macho than others in our normative society. It's been going on at least since Clarence ordered a hot buttered rum or mulled cider (or whatever) in It's a Wonderful Life, and it's still a societal norm.
I'm trailblazing here, and I want some damned credit! (Baby steps.)

Okay, Everyone Murders. I upvoted your stand against normative society via grapefruit beer.
Cheers!

I enjoy a Cosmo every now and again. Ain't nothin' wrong with cranberry (or grapefruit) juice.

Yeah, I found a good trick though. Mix half habanero and half grapefruit. It tamps down the spiciness, but retains the great flavors of both.

Did you see the brewery was recently sold for a billion dollars?
November 20th, 2015 at 8:07 PM ^
A buddy in SDO told me it was about to happen. I hope they don't let the big brewery folks ruin a really good line of ales (Big Eye IPA is my current go-to IPA).
November 20th, 2015 at 8:15 PM ^
It wasn't the death star that bought it, but close enough. Crazy amount of money. So long, BP, it was great.

Yes, and they also have access to a guaranteed supply of hops, since the big brewers have long term contracts with farms. That can be an issue in some years when the harvests aren't great.
But the incentive to extract savings from the brewing process is still there, and these conglomerates are responsible for destroying or eliminating many of the good beers in the past. They won't be getting my money unless I don't have a choice in some bar.

I have a bottle of 25 year Highland Park and a nicely complementary bottle of Balevenie Portwood 21 year to go with it.
The problem with 12:30 kicks is that they start at 9:30 here, and that's just too early for single malt. Coffee chased by a halftime omelette is about the best I can muster.
