Do you shut down after a loss?
November 19th, 2015 at 6:33 PM ^
Yes. I can't breathe, my internal organs start to fail and I lose feeling in my extremities. Also, I get drunk.

I used to, but the eight years of self-destruction (I count 2007 as the first year) got me so used to it that I don't get nearly as pissed as I used to.

After the MSU loss, I literally shut down all sports-related content for at least a week. I saw "the play" live, then not again until a few days ago. That is a fact...

Same here. I went off the grid for at least a week, may have been longer but I lost track of time. When my kids were little they learned not to mess with me on Michigan Saturdays and how to avoid me if we lost. I'm surprised the wife let me get away with that.
BTW I've still never seen Crosby lift the cup. I've seen photos but not video. I will not watch the Stewart pass either. I'll do all I can to avoid ever seeing the last play against spartie.

Call me a troll then. The loss sucked but I refuse to let a game that I have nothing to do with ruin my life.

Either way, I didn't shut down after the msu game. It's the same with winning. I don't walk around beating my chest for days like I've done something. I do understand those that fall apart after a loss, I use to be that way when I was 25, now I just don't waste the energy on it. Plus living in Ohio will do that to you.

Good for you `

2012 ohio state was the angriest ive ever been after a game. Since then I've taken a step back.
November 19th, 2015 at 7:22 PM ^
That game messed me up for a couple of days. For some reason the '13 & '14 ohio state games didn't have nearly the same effect. (probably because of our steady decline)

By the 2014 Game, I think everyone was numb.

With the exception of the msu game. that was the first time in my life I felt viscerally affected by a game.

That's just the thing . . . it doesn't have 0 impact. It has a tangible impact on my life.
I've had people I have not talked to for years call me out of the blue when Michigan wins big (or loses big). I've had interviews change tone because they see Michigan on my resume.
I became friends with the boss of my boss because he liked to talk Michigan basketball with me, a lowly underling. His son played AAUs with MAAR in Allentown PA, and told me about him before Beilein even knew about him.

You completely missed the point of the analogy. The point is not that some things have an impact and other things don't. The point is that things can have deeper meaning than the form in which it exists. The Bible exists as a book. But can you see that it means more than just a book to many people? Now you're going to tell me that football and the Bible are different things.

Yes, get used to it. The time will come again when expectations will be sky high and one loss will ruin the whole season. You will live and die on every single play.
November will be intense. When you have already had 4 losses, a potential 5th loss is "whatever". But when you've had no losses or just an early OOC loss, it's a whole different animal.

win or lose.
their time, glad i'm with them, and if we lose it will definitely take my mind off of it.

... on the nature of the loss, the people I'm with, and exactly how drunk I managed to get while watching the game.

I didn't after the Utah game, but sure as hell did after the other. Alcohol in mass quantity was the only answer there.

I was fine after the Utah loss itself because of how they tried to finish the game. It was after the pick six that I was upset thinking "Oh no, I am not doing another year of Pseudo Ghost Gardner in wait". With that loss I felt like the Team did not give up just like how Bo never lost he just ran out of time.

The MSU loss resulted in sheer denial. For about 30 hours I seriously thought there was some way to reverse what happened.
November 19th, 2015 at 6:40 PM ^
Typically no, but I was questioning my fandom after the MSU game. Worst I think I've ever felt after a loss.

How do I +1 this comment?
I'm the same way and it only seems to get worse as I get older. But, as I think about it, part of my need to disengage stems from the fact that social media now keeps throwing losses back in my face.
It sucks to lose. It double-sucks to have your whole twitter feed filled with reminders about how much the sucking sucks. Couple that with twelve channels of football scrolling scores and plugging in highlights of the sucking and I find that if i don't power down the phone and turn the TV off, I can't handle it.
Yes, I have a problem. But, to be fair, if I perform an honest self-evaluation, this is my one emotional outlet where I can revert to being a 12 year old...so, there's that.

And now that we're good again...it's gotten worse than it's ever been. I'm truly concerned to be honest, I've got issues.

After an egregiously bad loss like MSU I completely shutdown. Especially if it's a night game I usually just go straight to bed. I wake up typically at 4am on Saturdays for work so I'm tired and drunk anyway.
The Last 6-7 years has taught me to let losses roll off my back though for the most part.
