OT University of Oklahoma has their own dumb Fraternity
http://www.conservativeoutfitters.com/blogs/news/17460757-video-univers…
Not to be outdone by U of M's frat in stupidity, these boys take it to a whole new level.
I don't know if dumb is the right word.
The Oklahoma guys are menaces to society. The UM Greek people were merely menaces to furniture, cabinetry, and ceilings.
Exactly. OU WISHES that those kids had only destroyed property.
50-100K in property damage is tiny. This is going to cost the university millions in poor PR.
This is TOXIC! Wouldn't be surprised if every SAE chapter in the country is pressured to close. Can't say I'd feel sorry for them. Even if I thought I was a "good" frat guy, I don't think I could stay a part of that organization. Shut 'em all down.
is gonna SAE. they've been skewing asshole fior some time. The chapter at ASU especially: LINK
Lol not only ASU.
Shiet our own SAE got kicked out IFC for hazing.
Then there's also Dartmouth's SAE that got expelled for hazing.
SAE gonna SAE indeed.

Because the analogies are generally shitty. Sports are 1st and foremost a sporting endeavor. Kids' interactions, behavior, reputations etc are tertiary to the organization. If kids misbehave there are consequences, but it really has little to do with what the point of the team is. The entire point of the fraternity is its intra and inter social relationships. SAE, as a whole, is shamed in a way far worse than if a couple football players would have shamed their team for a similar incident.

I knew and know some racist people (I'm a white guy living in Michigan). I don't know any who would participate in that bus ride. I guess the behavior get tamped down to different levels depending on social circle and in Oklahoma there isn't much tamping at all. I genuinely believe both racist behavior and racist belief are fading in our country, but we clearly aren't home yet.
Love that OU's President signs his tweets "DBo". How sweet it would be if the fictional "Deebo" from Friday visited the OU SAE chapter.....
If he does..."You got kicked the fugg out!"
Apparently they have quite the reputation to go along with this video. As a non-alum, I was wondering if anybody knows how their relationship with the community is at UM. A quick google search helped me find out they have a chapter on campus but I was just curious if any MGoBloggers were familiar with them.
Well, they were kicked off in 2011 apparently. Not sure if they have rechartered.
Kicked off isn't the same as having their charter pulled, which is done by their national fraternity and not UM. To answer your question though, they have not gotten back on campus yet (though they tried and failed this year).
And this could have been a bad rumor, but a few times I heard that SAE previously made their pledges jump off the roof with mattresses duck-taped around them.
When I was at UM (late 90s-early 2000s) they were generally considered the most like an Animal House. The most hazing and the most drunk Aholes who didn't care about anythign but partying. Basicly the fraternity that gave other fraternities a bad name. But they had mudbowl so everybody loved them.
That's reputation only. I'm sure there were plenty of good guys in the house who probably were far more successful in school then I was.

They were kicked off campus at CMU in the late 80's. I remember them being Dbags at UM during the same time period, MB notwithstanding. I'm sure they have some good chapters and members somewhere.

As an SAE alum at UM from the late 90's, I can't think of a more accurate compliment.

Thank you for the animal house compliment, definitely true. We definitely threw it down harder than anyone else on that campus, no doubt about that.
Buy, FYI, a really high number of those "most drunk Aholes" went on to the best business schools, law schools, medical schools, etc., and have become doctors, CEOs, big time lawyers, bankers, a congressman, started their own companies, served as officers in Iraq and Afghanistan and continue to dominate life in all phases.
a history of racist incidents. Only national frat formed in the Antebellum South. I have known a few of them who were clearly all about that, and word is that's a national SAE song.

But there is no doubt that frats and sororities in general have historically been about racial exclusion, whether some of them are superficially integrated now or not. The usual suspects will neg this, but no social researcher doubts it.
It's definitely not.
board comments that it's sung all over the country.
Just saw some tweets that the chant/song in question is a staple at SAE - disgusting
Really, thats almost too hard to believe. I was trying to understand what would possess people to sing that song in the first place, let alone just think like that. What fucked up shit.
Some tweets for y'all to chew on. https://t.co/14LQ7eyXEz https://t.co/knZInNe1zh https://t.co/sck3rn9T3q https://t.co/aZKCLspOgu

More bans should be forthcoming then.
I think I saw a statement from their national president that they were the 'most dangerous' fraternity in the greek system (or something like that) due to a lot of alcohol poisoning, hazing incidents, etc.
Assuming that's true and seeing these rumors that this happens at other SAE chapters makes me think this might be the beginning of the end for SAE nationally. News outlets will dig up dirt, other people will feel emboldened to speak out on other crap, and they'll close many, many chapters
the commenters on the site you linked are the frat brothers' friends and family
Good lord what kind of website is that?
The difference between UM's situation and OU's is that eventually we can say "Kids will be kids, alcohol makes smart people dumb and dumb people dumber, learn from it and move on, etc.." regarding the UM frats/soroties.
...And there's really no phrase or words of wisdom to excuse the allegations against the OU chapter. Pretty disgusting stuff.
Our frats were real dumb and broke peoples stuff. It's a whole other f'ing thing to sing "there will never be a n_____ in SAE" and "hang him from a tree" with such joyful enthusiasm
I mean holy sh*t guys. What is this, 1950's Mississippi? OU was right to rid themselves of this filth
But getting rid of SAE doesn't really do anything. These kids are still going to be on campus and are still harboring those thoughts enough to chant it on the way back from a formal or something. Kicking SAE off campus had to be done but will change nothing. Have they ID'ed the head klansman that was leading the song?
It sounds like they are thinking about kicking some of the guys out.
Whoever that little fuck is, I'm sure his first name is something like "Harrison" or "Putnam" - southern "aristocratic" tradition to name your kid with your wife's maiden name.
I heard it was Parker...so essentially you nailed it.
