Tax Refund & Michigan Stuff
Its a slow Thurs night...I got my tax refund and used/going to use the money toward Michigan stuff:
1. Going to use the money to renew my season tickets
2. Bought a new jacket
What about you? What Michigan stuff are you getting if you're getting a refund?

Self-employed here too - gotta love the quarterly estimated tax. True test of self-control.

LLC's are exempt from paying quarterly. Structure it that way and only pay once per year.

And am taking the girlfriend on a week vacation to warm weather and beaches. But I equally like your plan.

Or you could just properally save money on the side.
Pay your aloted takes when they are only due one day a year and not give the government a interest free loan.

God I loved that thing. Those were the days... Now, I try to find satisfaction in the fact that I can earn a chunk of points by putting my annual IRS payment on my credit card.

My folks are renting a house and buying Utah tix for me and my sister. It's nice to provide for yourself but getting gifts is pretty great sometimes. My mom is getting me a crock pot from Kohl's this week as well. Preconceived ideas brought about by others becoming ingrained in your consciousness can happen quickly. Don't let ones that are hurtful towards others in if you can.

My in-laws bought and renovated from top to bottom and outside a whole house. We don't have a mortgage. You mad, bruh?

But here is what I found on MgoBlue (link). A $150 donation gets you on the list for next season, and the PSD is waived for the first year, but you will pay it for remaining years.

It's for 2015. Granted, just because you donate doesn't guarantee tickets.

Which means I'm doing my patriotic duty (cough) and paying a little more into the federal slush fund.

Yes - a refund means you lent the government, interest-free, money you could have used way more wisely, like aforementioned bills, beer, or better yet, investments.

I try to engineer things so that I never have a refund. I did screw it up last year and ended up paying a $15 penalty, which sucked, but I've clearly made more than $15 over the years by not having the government have thousands of my dollars tied up waiting for a refund.
I believe as long as you have withheld 90% of the total amount you are not penalized.

Well, it's the "you don't miss what you don't see" mindset, so when you get that "bonus" check every year, that's exactly what it feels like. I believe, however, that when you get extra or unexpected money, you stash it in savings or apply it towards debt.

So that I come out just about at zero. Some years I get a small bit back and others I pay a bit. I know some friends who are all excited when they get their 12K refunds. That's just your money without Uncle Sam paying you interest.
February 26th, 2015 at 11:41 PM ^
However, some people simply do not have the discipline to put this money away weekly or bi-weekly, whichever way they get paid. And with the interest banks are giving I'm not certain it's such a bad idea. It will buy them a nice vacation for the family. I still prefer the no lend to the gov't situation but that's me.
