Devin Funchess is good at jumping
Not exactly news to any of us who watched him play, but damn Funchess has some hops. Looking forward to seeing him play on Sunday.

I hope he lights it up in the NFL.

insert drug joke
February 16th, 2015 at 9:33 PM ^
That fits in well on the RCMB.
February 16th, 2015 at 3:59 PM ^
For his own sake, I hope he excels at the NFL. But I will not be cheering him on.
February 16th, 2015 at 4:38 PM ^
Why not?
February 16th, 2015 at 5:21 PM ^
I don't know if I'd go as far as to say I won't cheer for him, but there's definitely a feeling he didn't exactly put the team first in his time here. From his lackluster blocking, to seemingly lack of focus this last year (e.g. drops, short arming catches, more bad blocking), to his early exit, his career isn't exactly one I would hold up as an example of a model Michigan student athlete.

Nah, dawg. The Raiders will take him.

Not fast enough. Al wants burners!
February 16th, 2015 at 3:52 PM ^
Umm...Do you mean Mark?
February 16th, 2015 at 7:20 PM ^
Look at that haircut. The big, toothy, smile. This is not a man in control of anything. Al's Ghost wants burners.
February 16th, 2015 at 10:33 PM ^
No, but I heard that in Al's last will and testament that he said any future #1 draft picks at WR need to be fast over size.
February 16th, 2015 at 3:12 PM ^
Funchess mailed it in after being hung out to dry against ND by Hoke n co. Don't blame him. I would pick my future in the NFL over a potential joke of a season at Michigan for a lame duck coach.
February 16th, 2015 at 3:48 PM ^
I don't blame Funchess as a player for his effort.
I blame Funchess in the #1 jersey for his effort. I still hope he does well
February 16th, 2015 at 3:50 PM ^
...there's a problem. I think DG was hung out to dry. Funchess, not so much. And Devin never mailed it in. I wish Funchess all the best, but he underperformed greatly last year.
February 16th, 2015 at 4:13 PM ^
Bull. You are a 6'5" 235lbs athletic freak who asked for the #1 jersey. You have an olbigation to hold up your end of the bargain, namely: catch and block.

Head and Heart!
February 16th, 2015 at 2:18 PM ^
Jumping, is that also just a statistic?
February 16th, 2015 at 2:19 PM ^
That's nice but he still can't catch*.

Former #Michigan WR Devin Funchess (@D_FUNCH) has avatar-like bounce. When NFL teams see his head above the rim?! pic.twitter.com/uLWbbxBQeQ

I could have sworn this was posted earlier but now I can't find it. /sigh
February 16th, 2015 at 2:44 PM ^
Ya, I saw it on here too, think it was posted as a reply to another post. That or the Mods deleted it.
February 16th, 2015 at 2:48 PM ^
I cannot think of which thread specifically, but it was a reply to a post in another thread and now slowly making its way to the bottom of the first page (Tuesday Visitors thread, I think). As with anything regarding former players, there is nothing which is OT so it's completely allowable.
February 16th, 2015 at 2:56 PM ^
Okay, good. I am glad I am not the only one who remembered this. I felt like I was taking crazy pills.

One of the most disappointing seasons I can remember. Good luck to him in his NFL career.
February 16th, 2015 at 3:09 PM ^
Yup. I thought prior to the season that Funchess was going to dominate every defender he went against, but alas, that did not happen. I remember when he came out with the number one jersey and then he killed it against App State, I was like oh hell yeah this dude is gonna kill it. NOPE. Joke was on us. Such a disappointment.
February 16th, 2015 at 3:39 PM ^
I was excited during the 2012 Air Force game when Funches pretty much made his debut and people in the stadium kept asking, "who is that guy?" I suspected big things from him in the future.

Let him be a matchup nightmare against any team crazy to cover him with LBs or their 3rd, 4th CB. I was leery about him at WR where his speed would be average for the position.

I don't get the hate for Funchess in this thread. He was an awesome receiver for us.

Wow, I haven't seen this amount of negativity from the UM fanbase towards a former UM player in a long time.
February 16th, 2015 at 3:00 PM ^
I think this is more to do with the former coaching staff. How on earth can they see this and simply not call a one-on one fade route at least 5 times a game.......
Now the few times they actually tried it, the timing just seemed to be way off between DG and DF, but I would put that back on the coaching staff to run the play over and over again until they got it right......
February 16th, 2015 at 3:29 PM ^
Dear M_Born_Believer:
Agreed. Hard to believe the former coaching staff had talent like his at their disposal and either didnt see it or couldnt find a way to properly use it. What a waste.
Sincerely,
Thomas Rawls
PS: I'm sorry I wont be able to respond again to you again after this comment. My flight to the NFL combine leaves in an hour.
February 16th, 2015 at 4:00 PM ^
The inability to put him in a position to succeed fell on the coaching staff. All-in-all, I think there's enough blame to go around.
February 16th, 2015 at 3:01 PM ^
February 16th, 2015 at 3:08 PM ^
but to be fair, the stuff so far in this thead seems pretty tame compared with the in-season bashing of all the star players (not just Funchess).
February 16th, 2015 at 3:11 PM ^
Well, they had a horrific season...
The coaches could have done a much better job teaching, but in the end, it comes down to the players' executing.
February 16th, 2015 at 3:24 PM ^
Wow, I haven't seen this amount of negativity from the UM fanbase towards a former UM player in a long time.
Taylor Lewan might debate that point a bit.
February 16th, 2015 at 3:36 PM ^
Lewan would assault that point
February 16th, 2015 at 3:47 PM ^
lock the thread.
February 16th, 2015 at 3:57 PM ^
and Mike Hart guarantees it.
Braylon Edwards is dropping hints about it and he won't stop talking about it.
...lol those two and Lewan/Funchess are probably the least liked in the last 20 years.
Then you have Will Campbell, Ryan Mundy, Todd Howard, Kyle Kalis, and maybe Chad Henne who were disliked by some who felt they didn't progress or live up to the hype until late in the careers (if at all). Blake Countess is starting to trend towards this group, a bunch of people are very down on him right now (play wise), and are vocal about it. Frank Clark always teetered with it as well.
