Hanging Onto Brandon Gives Michigan the Best Chance At Harbaugh For Next Season--Sam Webb

The gist is that it would take too long to fire Brandon, bring in a new AD, and then hire a new football coach. So if we want a chance Harbaugh next season, we should want Brandon to remain AD at least through the football coach hiring process.

we could bring Jim John to coach and co-coach, Jack to be AD (he was an associate AD in his day) and Tom Crean can be an asst to Beilen!

Harbaugh won't work for David Brandon. I love Sam Webb, but this statement has me thoroughly baffled. I can only hope Sam wants the arrogant DB to have a false sense of security.

Calculated leak to try to save his ass with diehard fans.

isn't baffling when viewed through the lens of a politician trying to save his job.
"If you fire me, you're stuck with Hoke for another season!"
Brandon knows if he can survive the current angst and get a new coach in here, the furor will die down and he will probably be OK. So he just has to make it look like if he goes, people won't get what they want. Kinda like Coach Dale in Hoosiers, except Coach Dale was awesome.

Sam and Ira drink too much kool Aid. FIRE BRANDON NOW
UM sets a world standard for everything. And this HC and AD are not doing it.

...someone should just call Jimmy Harbaugh and ask him who he wants to be the AD.

The only reason Webb cites as the best chance that Harbaugh is hired with Brandon as AD is because it means that there would be plenty of time for a coaching search. The alternate is that Brandon is let go and if that were to happen, Hoke is most likely retained because of timing issues in trying to hire a new AD AND a new coach. If Hoke is retained, it precludes Michigan from hiring Harbaugh (there would be no job to fill right now).
Keep in mind, HOWEVER,as stated by Webb today in the thread the OP references, the chances of Harbaugh working with Brandon as AD, are very low (we all pretty much knew this already). Despite what the OP posted, Webb says the rift between the two is real (as Webb stated in a different thread yesterday). So, chances are very high that even if Brandon were to retained as AD, Harbaugh won't come because he won't work with Brandon.
The best way is for Michigan to find a time efficient and effective plan that results in both the firing of Brandon and of Hoke. That is what gives Michigan the best chance, and likely the only chance, of hiring Harbaugh.

Care to recant on your BS pitchfork request to fire Dave Brandon?

chances are good that Hoke will get to coach here next season, even though he will most likely finish with a sub .500 record!

Bad news - apparently Dave Brandon is not quite the captain of industry we were led to believe
Good news - we may have identified a "hot" new candidate for AD (J. Patrick Doyle)

Henceforth, no Harbaugh, and hello Brady Hoke. You really didn't see that when they let RR go??

Indeed. But to play Sam's advocate here for a minute: 1) Michigan hasn't landed Harbaugh yet, 2) it's pure speculation to suggests that retaining Brandon would have made landing Harbaugh less likely, and 3) no one knew who Brandon's relacement would be or whether they were even competent at the time Sam wrote that article.
