Did not know that man-child on Baylor's D-line was 6'9 (280). Holy hell.

This may be all in the plan of DB as well! /s

It used to be my favorite thing about our fanbase...but the SEC era brought in a new mindset where fans act crazy and it's cool and fans start to feel more entitled than they really are.
Ohio State (not surprisingly) was the first B1G fan base to move toward more of an SEC/talk radio culture. But that was okay, because football in Ohio is the closest thing the midwest has to football in the south.
Penn State fans always complained, but they weren't SEC obnoxious.
Now the entire college football fan culture has changed, social media, the rise of the SEC all that stuff has had an impact.
It wasn't about being loud and obnoxius or vocal as a Michigan fan. We were just a big ass family. We won together, we lost together. It was always about the team, our values, tradition and history.
I went to a game vs. PSU in the late 90s and distinctly remember one of our fans being "SEC obnoxious" and 6-7 Michigan fans telling him to shut up.
But there's no going back...now we have message boards that are popular and if you're 12-13 years old you can join the adult conversations. Way back when, that wasn't possible...kids went to the game with their families and talked about Michigan with their friends at school. You weren't so immersed in it so heavily and so young.
The good ol days at Michigan Stadium were special. But I'm not nostalgic, because the landscape has changed everywhere. I spent a year going to Virginia Tech games and even a school in the mountains is starting to lose their old/family/community culture.
What you see on Gameday literally is what college football is right now. It's a very accurate depiction. Hell, they had Finebaum for 2 years and now he's on the SEC Gameday as one of their main talking heads.
It's just different.

This is a great post, I can't stand the level of rudeness on the net these days. Seems like to be a college fan you have to be some trash talking mental midget. At least some of those from an earlier era will have fond memories of better times gone by.
October 11th, 2014 at 11:56 AM ^
I think the Internet in general had something to do with that mindset.
October 11th, 2014 at 12:23 PM ^
The internet serves as an echo chamber for complaining. Before, you could only gripe to your friends/neighbors and maybe write in an angry letter to the newspaper. Now you can bitch in real time and have 500 people agree within minutes.

Reminiscent of 2013 where Shane Morris' 40 yard run in the bowl game was the longest rush of the year.
Only reason Michigan has had long runs this year is because the teams they beat are a combined 2-9.

According to the Sagarin rankings there are only eight D-1A teams ranked lower than Miami (OH) and App. State...(sigh)

I remember the only thing worst than watching Michigan get destroyed in Rich Rod's last game was having to sit in that shitty stadium and hear those fucking cowbells for 3 hours.
Talk about a buzz kill.

The Miss St. fans were so nice and everything and then they would ring that damn bell in your face. I loved Jacksonville, though. The experience was great. The game... not so much......

Just flipped past and saw the Block M on the screen. Stuck around to watch the 30 second interview (Brady looked nervous on camera, actually) and then, for some reason, listened while those 3 blowhards laughed at Michigan. Desmond just smiling through it all. Then I remembered why I don't watch pregame, halftime, or postgame shows and quickly changed the channel. I do not need those guys to tell me what they 'think' or describe what I already saw.
/thanks for listening

Because Ole Miss was AWFUL.
They had no idea how to do gameday. Should've just stuck to their boat shoes and bowties and refrained from trying to be clever.

The interview lasted only a few seconds. Hoke gave credit to Gardner, Ryan and Clark for keeping the team together. No tough questions. Corso and Herbstreit were bashing MIchigan questioning whether we'd win another game. Desmond was silent.

meanwhile dumbfuck herbie said we would be 10-1 going into OSU after week 1

Hoke looks absolutely defeated. A shell of his former self. Do the right thing buddy. Hang 'em up.

Yeah he's looks and sounds like a guy that doesn't even believe what he's saying anymore. Its why if they lose today I wouldn't be surprised to see him canned in the next few days. When you've lost the ability to believe what you're saying and convince others, then you're done as a leader.

I'm not grammar police...I have more spelling and grammar errors on this site than anyone in its history. But we don't want to be the laughing stock anymore! This sucks.
I miss watching Gameday trying to figure out who I wanted to win/lose based off of how it would help Michigan.
I miss the positive stories on Michigan that would get me excited for the entire day.
There is no reason this team should be this bad. I never thought we'd be elite, but there is no reason we should be the worst team in the B1G.

not with the recruiting we've been doing. The only team I've ever seen with so much talent do so little was Charlie Weis's Notre Dame. . .

I must say I'm pretty tired of all the "wonderful" Michigan stats that get flashed during any discussion of the team, like "Michigan is 0-2 in the Big Ten for the first time since 1967."
Tonight's recaps will feature "Michigan: First game under 100,000 attendance since 1975" over highlights of Hackenberg's four-touchdown Heisman campaign.
October 11th, 2014 at 11:58 AM ^
October 11th, 2014 at 12:10 PM ^
OK. But tell me I'm wrong about Hack for Heisman. (Please?)
October 11th, 2014 at 5:29 PM ^
There's almost no way Hack wins the Heisman with that offensive line. However, he could throw 4 TDs today with the way our secondary has been playing. Won't help him when he throws 4 INTs before having his ribcage disintegrate against MSU at the end of the season.

My alcohol intake starts a lot earlier on Saturdays. It really is unbearable watching Hoke speak. No one cares how practices go. RR said the same thing about how well practices were but Saturdays always turned out poorly for the most part. The Michigan Malaise needs to end and it starts with cleaning house yet again until the AD and the coaching staff have people who know how to compete and win on Saturdays. Hoke has always said the right things but his and the team's actions have never lived up to his words. I am amazed that this sounds somewhat coherent after 4 beers.

Des looked like the kid on the playground that was tired of getting picked on. It was more of a "if I laugh, I won't cry" type of deal. And he's right. There's no logical college football based reason to talk about Michigan from a national perspective. The only reason they get talked about at all is that anything Michigan related is a huge source of ratings and buzz. Which...yay?
October 11th, 2014 at 11:26 AM ^
Maybe if Hoke changed one of his pre game rituals and went to a buffet in the morning or something- or maybe wear long sleaves, or headphones (Dr. Dre Beats- anything)
October 11th, 2014 at 11:33 AM ^
I beleive Einstein said it best: "Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
The fact that we keep doing the same stupid shit every week and hear the same stupid quote every week drives me nuts. At some point, you have to have the self reflection to say, hey if the players are doing the same things every week, maybe its not them. Maybe its me.

This is outrageous, sad, and unfortunately true given what has transpired so far this year. 7-6 is our upsaide and I'm not sure how I'm saying that with a straight face.
I hope the team is watching this interview. I'm so glad I didn't watch it live I may have broken my TV from the comments I've read.
Just play and knock the other team either backwards or onto the ground. Use this emotion that must be in there somewhere. Unleash the fury dangit.
