MBB ranked #6 in the final poll
Final polls are out and UM is #6. Makes sense. We are below the final four teams and Arizona. I was happy to see Duke taking a huge plung.
Love that one person voted Kentucky as #1 still.
Wonder who that was???
/s
Also one vote for Wichita State who lost in the second round.
i'm gonna go ahead and agree with the original post. 2 games each between #11 and #16 seeds does not constitute a round, official naming be damned.
Round of 32 if you must, but definitely not "3rd Round".
By Internet Edict, the rounds shall be named:
#Teams | Round Name |
68 | Play-in Round |
64 | 1st Round |
32 | 2nd Round |
16 | Sweet Sixteen |
8 | Elite Eight |
4 | Final Four |
2 | Championship |
And Pluto is a planet, too!!
.
B1G teams in the top ten. I like that.
How neat is it to be 6th at something.
Start the season ranked eighth, lose Mitch McGary and end up ranked sixth? You bet that's meaningful.
as opposed to a certain other school's team's not-so-good kind of "meaningful":
- started ranked much higher
-injuries
-more injuries
-had to play weird guys
-self-inflicted injuries
-got healthy
-wrist excuse
-continued to lose for a couple more weeks
-wrist excuse
-lots of tears were shed, some sweet but some briefly "Magic"al
-team wins sumthing sumhow sumwhat meaningful
-frenzied sports media then prepares them a shiney crown
-bandwagon hoppers aplenty sip the koolaid
-loses to hottest team
-wrist excuse
-doesn't profit
-final ranking not satisfying
-wrist excuse expected
A mom joke? LOL, 1993 wants your style back please.
its my opinion is that it does mean something. Especially from a recruiting standpoint.
How about they just hang the regular season conference banner? That enough for you?
Are we shooting for 6th in anything, no, but to say it doesn't mean anything seems like an emotional response. If we finished top 10 in football that would mean one or two losses and this fan base would be drooling with anticipation instead of dripping with sarcasm.
So, are you saying this isn't neat?
that is a new one for me. Is that anything like a moo point? You know, like a cows opinion.
I was agreeing with you in a sarcastic manner.
GREAT year had by Michigan.
We're going to be in great shape as long as Beilein is our coach.
i sure hope M football can finish in the almost-top-25 this year
The way I see it, teams that had a positive change in ranking from the pre-Tournament poll to this poll "outperformed" their expectations in the tournament. This list includes:
- UConn (obviously)
- Kentucky (obviously)
- Wisconsin (expected to lose to Zona)
- Michigan
- Sparty (meh)
- UCLA
I like being part of that list, though I would have liked to see us outperform more.
- Arizona had the same position in both pre- and post-season polls.
- UK started #1 and finished #2. Pretty good.
- ohio state took the biggest tumble from the preseason top 10, finishing outside the top 25 (#30 based on "others receiving votes")
- Duke (-12) and 'Cuse (-10) were next, tumbling into the high teens.
- Michigan (+3) and Florida (+5) were the only preseason top 10 teams to improve their positions in the final poll.
- UConn (+18), Wisconsin (+17) and Virginia (+15) made the largest leaps into the top 10
- Villanova (+27) and Iowa State (+32) made the largest leaps overall, going from the tail end of others to solidly in the top 15
- In the Big Ten (footprint), notre dame and Indiana went from ranked to not even receiving votes (or NIT bids - zing!)
Team | Preseason | Postseason | Change |
Kentucky | 1 | 2 | -1 |
michigan state | 2 | 8 | -6 |
Louisville | 3 | 9 | -6 |
Duke | 4 | 16 | -12 |
Arizona | 5 | 5 | +0 |
Kansas | 6 | 14 | -8 |
Syracuse | 7 | 17 | -10 |
Florida | 8 | 3 | +5 |
Michigan | 9 | 6 | +3 |
ohio state | 10 | 30 | -20 |
Wichita State | 16 | 7 | +9 |
UConn | 19 | 1 | +18 |
Wisconsin | 21 | 4 | +17 |
notre dame | 22 | NR | #VALUE! |
Indiana | 24 | NR | #VALUE! |
Virginia | 25 | 10 | +15 |
Villanova | 40 | 13 | +27 |
Iowa State | 43 | 11 | +32 |
I know that "#VALUE!" is simply what Excel says when an equation doesn't work, but it still made me giggle. Pass it along to Crean - he could use a laugh.
I know we took a wacky path from #8 to #6 from beginning to end but we look boring compared to what Kentucky did. Start #1, lose some games, lose some really bad games, get good in the SEC tournament, be an 8 seed, go on a freakin tear in the tournament, end #2
Is UCONN really number 1? I know they one the tourney, but should that make them number 1 in so many voters' eyes? I find that a little surprising. If all the voters are doing is confirming the results of the tournament, I don't see the purpose of a poll. We know who the tourney champion is and we know who the final four are.
this year is pretty damned good, especially with not having MM most of the year. It shows among other things that last year wasn't a fluke. And depending on who comes back next year, we could possibly do even better. After all the dark years, it feels great to be back in men's basketball at an elite level. Go Blue!
In fact, this season was a smashing frickin success considering what was lost.
Whoo Hoo!!
The Significant Six. That's even better than the Elite Eight, right?
Will say that UConn winning it all makes a bit sad, as at no point during the season did anyone look up and say "Oh yeah, those Huskies are definitely the best team in the country." I love March Madness, but runs like this kind of remind you of the dangers of single-game playoffs.
Still, a top-6 place is amazing for this team. I expect them to be ranked lower next year than this, but wouldn't be surprised if they finish in the top 15 even with the expected departures.
