OT: Tennessee Titans hire Dennard Wilson (Ravens DB coach) as Defensive Coordinator
I live in Nashville suburbs and the local paper just broke it. Given Mike Macdonald’s hire in Seattle, the vacancy he created in Baltimore, and Minter’s likely departure to the Chargers, it’s clear the league has taken note of the Ravens defensive successes.
I thought this is noteworthy as these are all names that were thrown out on the coordinator wishlist. It’s clear Michigan will have to compete with some NFL teams for some of the coaches on that tree, and perhaps may have to look into more names as others get scooped up.

On the bright side, it seems like in a few years, the tree will have sprouted so many branches that if our next defensive coordinator gets hired away, we should be able to find a replacement.

I think Clinkscale and Elston will be a nice branch

Congrats shoelace... my bad I read that wrong

Denard would be a terrible coordinator because he wouldn't comprehend why his QBs can't just shred 11 defenders on every play.

Henne, Brady, Grbac, Navarre
All of these men could throw very far

This turned into Defensive-McVay/Shannahan real quick. But the weird thing is it's just attributed to "Ravens-style" and not a specific coach. Somebody missed out on their opportunity to have their own McVay-Tree / Shannahan-Tree.

Probably because instead of becoming a head coach himself, Wink left for New York and got shitcanned

Everyone is jumping on the Ravens D bandwagon!!! We are definitely trend setters! LOL.

It's becoming so popular that it won't be long before someone figures it out.

I don't know why everyone seems so happy about it. We've already lost some of the best candidates for our coordinator slot and we, so far as I've heard, haven't even interviewed anyone yet. Maybe they plan to promote from within but it seems like they should have at least interviewed some of the other possibilities.

This can only be good news for our Defensive players in this years draft. Four teams presumably running the Ravens D next year, and only one college team running the Ravens D.
if you want a plug-and-play defender we’ll versed in this system, there are seven guys with three years experience playing in this system (plus Josh Wallace with one year playing this system)…. And that’s it.

I'm left to wonder who will actually coach the Ravens D next year. I'm sure John was hoping to get Minter back. Maybe he promotes Zach Orr? I saw he interviewed somewhere recently.

I'm guessing Orr or Weaver is the Ravens defensive coordinator. And which ever one they don't hire is the defensive coordinator in Seattle.

Everyone is going after the Ravens staff right now because of their success and Michigan's success. It's clearly working at all levels.
However, there is no one magic formula and these things are always cyclical in football. Today it's Harbaugh's bruising offense in response to the spread pass, and the Ravens D.
What offense and what defense will be the answer from tomorrow's adjustments??
Would be good to anticipate and to know for staffing..

I guess we’re not getting the next great Ravens Assistant at DC this year? Seems like every NFL team has the same idea as Michigan now.

At this point we're down to the Ravens' video guys and ball boys. That defensive staff got picked through in a hurry.

Wonder if Wink Martindale returns to Baltimore.

Sure would be nice to nail down a DC sooner than later. Preferably someone on the current staff who knows enough to handle the role. It doesn’t look like there is going to be another Minter out there for the taking this year.

Nope. Seeing a lot of scuttlebut about MacDonald taking Orr with him as DC. As for the Ravens, I’m guessing Hewitt’s the guy since he hasn’t been interviewing elsewhere like the rest of them.

It's common knowledge that the Baltimore defense and its progeny (Michigan's defense) is considered an extremely effective and hot commodity right now. Queueu Will Ferrell - Zoolander. So hot right now.
No surprise that lots of teams are wanting a piece of that brain trust.

This feels like the new defensive version of the Kyle Shanahan coaching tree explosion on offense.
