Game Day superstitions, let's hear 'em

Im not going anywhere near a VRBO after the stank they put on that TCU Fiesta Bowl.

Haven't washed my M coffee mug since the 4th quarter last Monday. Currently drinking from it, taking one for The Team, fellas. 

I've worn my 1993 Rose Bowl shirt that my mom gave me (I wasnt born for a year and a half yet) for OSU this year and to the Rose Bowl as well...it's clean and ready to go for tonight of course. Hoping for a similar result vs the Huskies!

I’m not superstitious, but I try to watch all the big games with my dad’s block M cap on.  He passed away in 2019 at a spry 96 and when we went to clean out his apartment it was on the coat hook nearest the door.  

Does paralyzing fear count as a superstition?

Have a coupe of staples;

1. Wear the same boxers each game (do wash them each week).

2. Same pair of Michigan socks each game (also wash these each week).  Happen to have huge holes in the heals now, but will still wear them tonight!

3. Home = Woodson '98 Rose Bowl Jersey, long sleeve maize M shirt, blue jeans.

4.  Away = Devin Bush away Jordan jersey, long sleeve white shirt, Navy jeans.

5. Most importantly, a glass of bourbon in my hand as the game kicks off.

Suffer. Pain and suffering.

It's the reason I love blowout wins so much.  Rutgers 78-0 is one of my favorite games of all time.

Big games? Whew.

Just win, boys, it'll all be worth it in the end! Just win. Let's go blue!

I've got a particular superstition about being a losing-magnet when attending in person. Otherwise just wear M gear head to toe, and hit the message board. And I try to bring a  positive & calm presence on there, unless things go #refshow. Go Blue.

My dog will be wearing her Michigan cheerleader outfit just like she did against 'bama.....

Everything I've done this season has worked.  I got us to 14-0 and I'll get us to 15--0 tonight.

DG's #98 Adidas Jersey is never worn, ever. It will stay on that hanger in the closet forever.

Smoking weed before, during, and after games has been my tradition since 1990.  Some years it works better than others.

Watching the game. I KNOW it's not me, but I feel we will lose if I don't watch the game, or at least part of it. 

I didn't watch the TCU game, it was later and I had to work the next day. No way we were going to lose to those guys, silly Big 12.

I'm not the only one that feels this way, I'm sure. I plan on watching today...and I feel so at peace...

I gave up all superstitions in the late 90’s after we won the National Championship and the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup. I’m not sure why exactly. 

I thought about breaking out my blue shirt with Мичиган written in maize but then felt an uncontrollable urge to pull out my long sleeve Jumpman shirt, which I probably haven't worn since COVID but which looks really sharp set against my Big House Under the Lights zoom background. I'm ready to go!

Suddenly, I feel very confident and very sexy.

As for bottoms, my maize sweatpants with MICHIGAN down the leg haven't let me down yet this year, despite the occasional wash.

And, yes, blue boxers too, but no pics, okay?

Mine is doing squats. I feel if I put in the work the team is also putting in the work and we will win.

I'm wearing the same tshirt I had on for the Rose Bowl, OSU, and PSU. That's all I got. I'm usually working on Saturdays, but I asked this Monday off after the OSU game this year.

I have a jersey from 1997 that--although it is very special to me and I love it dearly--is cursed and can no longer be worn, especially not on game day.

I bought the jersey while stationed in Korea to wear while playing football with other soldiers from the barracks.  I got tired of wearing a friend's Mark Rypien Washington jersey (he's a Maryland native).  I spent my Saturday afternoons playing football, evenings drinking, and early Sunday mornings watching college football.  It was--as they say--a glorious time.

Once I got "back to the world"  I thought it would be a great idea to wear that jersey on game days. It was not.   

I was wearing it when Michigan lost to Syracuse the following year (after Michigan lost the opener to Notre Dame).  I wore it when Michigan lost to an Ohio State team coached by John Cooper, the surest sign of a curse there is.

I was at a sports bar when Michigan lost to UCLA after freshman John Navarre was pressed into service for the first few games that year.  I wore it for that Northwestern game with over one hundred points and a thousand yards that was a loss. I blame the jersey for Drew Henson's early departure and Jim Tressel's uncanny ability to reverse John Cooper's mojo. I can only assume crossing the International Date Line with it created a temporal rift that had something to do with this curse.

By the time Ohio State won the 2002 BCS national championship, the cursed nature of the jersey had been established and I stopped wearing it.  It stays on a hanger, in my closet, never to be worn.  Now, two decades of not wearing it is about to pay off.

Please be honest if this is too much (which it's not, because it worked!):

Go to the gym. Sweat out bad toxins.

Clean house to avoid any distractions. Do this day before for a noon game. 

Buy Little Ceasar's pizza and crazy bread. 

Shower and don UM shorts and shirt. Short-sleeve through October, Long-sleeve from November, on.

Wash down bag of Cheetohs Crunchy Flamin Hot with sugar free Red Bull.

Mix rum and coke in UM tumbler. Drink and eat pizza and crazy bread through 3rd quarter. 

Switch to beer and Rold Gold pretzels for 4th quarter, making sure to take at least a pretzel and a sip of beer before each play. 

It took years to perfect, but you're welcome. 

Oh yeah, and can a guy get a sponsor, or what?
