Pistons tie an NBA record for futility
The Detroit Pistons tied an NBA record last night by losing their 26th game in a row to the Brooklyn Nets.
They can own said record after Tuesday's game against...the Brooklyn Nets. I think if they keep trying hard, and play as a team they can achieve history. Infamy. I meant infamy. And this coming draft is considered very weak at the top, in case you were struggling to find a silver lining.

Shitnuggets. Meant to add that they have the highest paid HC in NBA history.
December 24th, 2023 at 10:27 AM ^
I know. I mean, I could coach them to the NBA record for futility at a fraction of the cost.
December 24th, 2023 at 2:11 PM ^
Unfortunately their roster is one of the lowest paid. Their four highest paid players wouldn't start anywhere else.
December 24th, 2023 at 1:14 AM ^
Man idk what is going on with this team. I thought this was going to be the year they hit the playoffs and started their ascent. The only silver lining is that Cade is starting to stack efficient performances on top of each other instead of every few games.
December 24th, 2023 at 1:16 AM ^
This isn't the main reason by any means, but starting Killian over Ivey for all those games when they were both healthy is a start. And having James Wiseman in your rotation doesn't hurt/help either.
December 24th, 2023 at 2:21 AM ^
not sure how you can win in the NBA with zero 3 and D players. Poor spacing or porous defense, pick your poison.
December 24th, 2023 at 2:52 AM ^
Yup. They drafted Thompson, a good defender with a 3pt shot that's shakier than Pinocchio, if Geppetto had Parkinson's.
December 24th, 2023 at 6:41 PM ^
Pistons had 3 of the best 3 point shooters out for most of the season. Monte, Livers , and Bogdanovic. They will be alright they are the youngest team in the NBA and have the youngest players to play in any teams rotation.
December 24th, 2023 at 6:51 AM ^
Cade is not good. He wouldn’t see the floor for a playoff team. He can’t shoot and turns the ball over WAY too much
December 24th, 2023 at 7:53 AM ^
Agreed. Time to start calling him a bust IMO. Pistons can’t draft worth shit and haven’t been able to for years.
December 24th, 2023 at 9:18 AM ^
Turnovers probably isn't the measure of a good/great NBA players. Look up a list of the top turnover players and you will see a list of players you want on your team.
December 24th, 2023 at 9:32 AM ^
I mean, look at the turnover rate. It is among the worst in the NBA this year. Just atrocious. By any advanced metrics, Cade is among the worst players in the NBA. Part of this is due to the fact that he’s being asked to do so much on offense, but also, he’s not exactly an elite player despite his draft pick. That was not a great class.
I’m bummed. I was really looking forward to rooting for a good Pistons team again soon, especially with the move Downtown. Just so many misses. Stanley Johnson over Devin Booker, Kennard over Donovan Mitchell, Darko over don’t even get me started, Hayes over Halliburton. The entire front office needs to be cleaned out.
December 24th, 2023 at 11:04 AM ^
High turnover rate is not a good quality in a point guard.
December 24th, 2023 at 10:28 AM ^
You think the Magic would trade Franz for Cade, straight up? Hell no.
December 24th, 2023 at 6:43 PM ^
Buddy you have no idea about basketball do you? That comment is just ridiculous. Cade is a young player essentially in his 2nd year and plays on a team of a bunch of young players.
December 24th, 2023 at 9:48 AM ^
Yeah, I don't see a ton of their games not being in the market but I sort of figured they'd look like Orlando did last year; not "good" somewhat competitive with a young roster. And that would be a spring board next year. But they seem just absurdly poorly coached and also a terrible mismatch to parts.
December 24th, 2023 at 10:02 AM ^
Roster construction is beyond bad.
December 24th, 2023 at 6:45 PM ^
I am not sure Monty was a good hire. He might be but as of now he hasn't shown anything that makes me think he can turn it around.
December 24th, 2023 at 1:49 AM ^
Why does Detroit always have at least one historically bad team?
December 24th, 2023 at 2:38 AM ^
2003 Tigers, 2008 Lions, 2023-2024 Pistons

The Dead Wings finished 2nd to last in the first 2 yrs of the Norris division, 1974-75, 75-76, and then last in 7 out of 10 seasons: 1976-77, 78-79, 79-80, 80-81, 81-82, 82-83, & 85-86. Somehow they were 2nd in 77-78, and 3rd in 83-84 & 84-85.
December 24th, 2023 at 10:09 AM ^
I think 85-86 should be treated a little differently. I believe Yzerman was hurt that year. But yeah, the decade prior…woof.
December 24th, 2023 at 2:02 AM ^
The Athletic asked Tom Gores about the chants that he should sell the team and this is a direct fucking quote: "If you put aside winning, we’ve made a very big difference in the community"
That's the attitude you want from your owner, that's for sure. Google "Tom Gores Securus" to see how Tom Gores makes a difference in his community.
December 24th, 2023 at 2:19 AM ^
So the Pistons are life champions? Did they hire Butch Jones?
December 24th, 2023 at 4:33 AM ^
Oh, he's a shit owner AND an owner of a for-profit prison company, which should be outlawed for the outright fucking cruelty of the situation. Double winner.
December 24th, 2023 at 9:19 AM ^
Yea, not to get political but the outright lobbying of politicians by both the for profit prison industry and the prison guard unions to keep more laws on the books that lock up more people for bullshit and for longer is disgusting and should also be illegal. Some stuff should not be privatized. Check out the story of the judge in Pennsylvania who was sending kids to a for profit juvenile jail and getting kickbacks for long periods for things that would ordinarily not get that. Disgusting.
December 24th, 2023 at 8:01 AM ^
Yeah, Gores is a bum. It definitely is possible to be rich enough to have your own reality, or at least enough yes men to convince you that you do. If he were in any other city, I'd root for his team to lose.
December 24th, 2023 at 9:19 AM ^
A lot of Detroiters ARE rooting for his team to lose.
December 24th, 2023 at 9:32 AM ^
One thing I’ve learned in the corporate world is execs love yes-men stroking their egos. They can’t handle someone telling it like it is. Then when their shit plans fail, they ask the workers “what happened?” Your plan sucked from the start, fuckhead.
December 24th, 2023 at 9:49 AM ^
Tom Gores has always struck me as a bit of a dipshit and a shady dude so not a huge surprise he's saying stuff like this.
December 24th, 2023 at 11:38 AM ^
"a bit", try a whole lot of a dipshit.

December 24th, 2023 at 5:44 AM ^
Jeebus... How did it get that bad?
December 24th, 2023 at 7:09 AM ^
Their defense is terrible, partly aided by all the turnovers.
In the 26 games, they've:
- given up 120+ points 17 times
- given up 140+ points 2 times
Their 2 wins this season feature their 2 best defensive performances all year: 99 and 102 points against.
December 24th, 2023 at 7:20 AM ^
They started the season 2-1.
December 24th, 2023 at 7:33 AM ^
If this is what life is is like with five top-5 picks, imagine how good they'll be with eight.
December 24th, 2023 at 7:57 AM ^
How many astro-sign medallions can you wear? Next time, try 5!

December 24th, 2023 at 8:30 AM ^
So as someone who follows the NBA sparingly and the Pistons not at all, how did things get this bad? Just whiffing on draft picks year after year? Incompetent management/coaching? Gypsy curse?
December 24th, 2023 at 9:06 AM ^
Starting at the top down. Outright absentee owner, owns for the resale value only. GM is a bumbling moron who couldnt draft the winning powerball numbers even if you told him. Crippling nepotism in the front office. And a head coach who said in his introductory presser this past year that he "only took this job for the money" and is completely baked. Other than that Mrs Lincoln...
December 24th, 2023 at 9:26 AM ^
At first glance I'd say the problem is that the team relies on Cade being the man, but he's just not good enough to be that on an NBA team.
December 24th, 2023 at 8:58 AM ^
They last won during the reign of Charles V as Holy Roman Emperor, or so it seems anyway.
If it is possible to tank as you in fact tank (however unwitting it may be), this might be how you do it.
Apparently, Tom Gores thought the wins would just come. You know, if you wait....patiently, like we used to for parcels. Eventually, they would appear. Eventually.
December 24th, 2023 at 8:59 AM ^
Don’t follow the NBA at all and with this post I suddenly feel better about the Red Wings sucking it up lately….a little better.
December 24th, 2023 at 9:21 AM ^
Glad I could be of service!
December 24th, 2023 at 2:27 PM ^
Red Wings ! Want to trade for the Sharks ? The only good thing about living in the East Bay is we gave our bottom dweller sports teams to Las Vegas. Having no pro teams is better than subsidizing losing teams with shithead owners with taxpayer money. Maybe Las Vegas can throw a lot of public money at those black holes and make a go of it . They will still have to deal with the owners who will immediately scam them for more or in the case of the Davis family sue them endlessly if they fail.

I don't know a lot about the NBA, but I started following the Pistons on Reddit after Duren and Ivey were drafted, and then paid attention on the lead up to the Wemby sweepstakes. I was keyed in during both of the Bad Boys runs and I wanted to get in early on this one. Evidently having a team of 18-20 year olds isn't great.
