[ED: Clear your cache. It's the UFRs that do it. Big tables, lots of embedded videos. You can get around this somewhat if you use our progressive web app: https://mgoblog.com/install because that will allow your phone to save more fresh data.]
Perhaps it's just me, but on my iPhone every time I access mgoblog for the past weeks(?), it is *really* slow to show me the first page, almost unusably so. After a long while (a minute?), the front page does appear and then the site works as expected. I have tried both Safari and Chrome. Is anyone else having this issue? (if so, I bet the site's mobile #s are down; if not, I have just wasted a lot of your time, for which I apologize).

You have to clear your history and website data weekly or it gets really slow.

I usually give this advice as well but it got so even that was not helping anymore on safari for iOS. I had to switch browsers to Brave, so it must be something to do with ads

I've used Brave on MGoBlog for a long time and I've never ever had any kind of problem with this website

I was having problems on my iPad with Safari, but not on my iPhone or Mac. I installed Brave on the iPad and it's been fine.

Yes clear your cache. It works but the downside is that you’ll have to re-login to all of the sites that are currently open. So I guess we can thank HUEL for this?

This is about the only site I use that isn't through an app so it's not that big of a deal for me.
October 5th, 2023 at 2:01 PM ^
I would believe that to be the answer IF it wasn’t just this site where that issue happens. Literally, just this site.

While I've only seen this particular issue for Mgoblog (at least for sites I visit), clearing my cache definitely fixed it. Cache clearing is a common first step for troubleshooting browser issues and I'm mildly embarrassed I didn't try it earlier.
If it is the UFRs per the edit, it's a small price to pay.

Yeahhh. It has been crashing for me on Safari on mobile, and seems to cause my Podcasts app to crash as well. It was doing that maybe three weeks ago, got better last week, and has been doing it again this week. Switching to Chrome mobile browser on my iPhone seems to still work on my end though.

Yes, it's just YOU. They programmed the site to do that specifically to YOUR phone because they don't like YOU. Their mamas raised them too nice to just Bolivia you, so they decided to just make it so awful for YOU to use the site via mobile that you'll just go away.
But apparently they feel exactly the same way about me too. So there's that.

Same same

We’re being held back by technology

I have been having the exact same issue. Pretty frustrating.
October 5th, 2023 at 1:47 PM ^
I would love to take your bet about the site's mobile #s being down because that's not how the internet works, and I love easy money. If the IP was messed up, no amount of time is going to fix that. However, I can say that at work we have been experiencing a very large number of DNS error reports from customers. If this is a widespread issue, it could create load time issues or pages not loading at all.

This has been true for me on my mobile iOS Chrome and Firefox for months. It sucks.
October 5th, 2023 at 1:59 PM ^
I had the same problem relentlessly for several months over the summer. It finally stopped - for the most part - within the last month or so. I honestly thought it was just my device since I hadn’t seen anyone else comment on it, so am appreciative of this post greatly. It was simultaneously so bad that it almost made me give up on this site and a testament to how great this site is that I had not done so.

The issue, and we've been working at this, is our site still produces big longform content, particularly UFRs, which are big tables and full of embedded youtube videos.
Meanwhile browsers are trying to streamline by loading less, figuring nobody has the patience to read longform anymore. It has nothing to do with the site architecture and everything to do with our content, which refuses to dumb down.
You can get around this somewhat if you use our progressive web app: https://mgoblog.com/install because that will allow your phone to save more fresh data.
It has nothing to do with ads and everything to do with mobile browsers

Long live long form.
Thanks for all you do, Seth.

Been having the same issue on my iPhone recently. Loaded the app, problem solved. Thanks Seth!

With all due respect Seth, that sounds like you guys are saying too bad users, suffer through it, change your browser, etc because we can’t fix this unless we change and that ain’t happening. There has to be a better plan than that.

Yes, there are days at a time that I cannot even get the front page to appear. And then it just... starts working again. I thought perhaps it was related to the amount of traffic but that doesn't seem to be the case. I clear history and data often and that doesn't seem to make a difference.
October 5th, 2023 at 2:32 PM ^
ah, thanks all. Should have figured this out.
Went into Settings, Safari, Clear web site history and data, and then it works fine.
But, this is still a site "bug" if you will, because users shouldn't have to do this for the site to work properly... (just saying...)
thanks again!

Yes, this doesn't happen with any other site I use on my phone, just MGoBlog.
October 5th, 2023 at 2:52 PM ^
Same.
October 5th, 2023 at 3:42 PM ^
Clearing the cache doesn’t work (at least on my iPhone). You have to delete the bookmark and remake it. I have to do it every few weeks. The “app” is great guys!
October 5th, 2023 at 3:51 PM ^
Same. I've been visiting the mgoblog Facebook page and clicking on the url for weeks to get around it.

Facebook page? Does Brian post recipes and complain about the school board there?
October 5th, 2023 at 4:38 PM ^
I have had this problem for a few months; with the board also. Sometimes I could never load the board or main page at all.
I have found that for whatever reason, it runs fine when I’m in private browsing. I was desperate and tried everything (multiple different browsers even though they’re only skins on iPhones).

I use duck duck go as my browser, so far no problems.
I live in Oregon and my friends who are Oregon grads dislike USC but really reserve their passionate hatred for U Dub (Washington).
October 5th, 2023 at 6:38 PM ^
It's all the smut you guys are watching. Delete your history.

Ditto on really slow on my iPad lately. Cannot use Safari. Chrome gets me on, but is slow to load.
October 7th, 2023 at 9:30 AM ^
This did work (yay) however now i’ve lost my 60 day Wordle streak because of the cleared out cache (boo)

posting this from a desktop computer because I can't access mgoblog on my phone
