Profile of "Victor the Frisbee Dog"
I didn't know his name was Victor until now, but one of best additions to the game day experience is the frisbee dog. The 1970s ball chasing dogs (Whisky & Brandy) were before my time, but I also feel like Victor is both new and a call back to those two. Here's the story of how Victor and his owner got on the field:

Best additions? I'm not sure I need to see a frisbee dog 3+ times a game, every game. It's a just a way to distract fans from the fact that there are an insane number of commercial breaks.

Well then, what would you like to see, spiff?

Assuming fewer 2:45 commercial breaks are off the table, I dunno. But the dog is getting pretty played out for me personally.
Maybe just some time to sit and talk to the people I came to the game with? Enjoying being outside on a nice fall day with 100k+ people enjoying a game and team we love is enough, I don't need to be bombarded by music, dogs, and patriotic platitudes.

Perhaps we put Spiff out there for a real Gladiator fight

Lol, I'm not taking on Victor. He is way more athletic than I am.
Just would like to switch it up a bit is all I'm saying. Like maybe putting those fancy new scoreboards to good use and show actual highlights of other games?
I mean, if they're spending $24M on something superfluous instead of, like, lowering ticket prices or something then they might as well use them for something cool.

I am with you on this. Seeing a cat catching frisbees on the field every now and then would be a nice alternative.

Definitely.
If Victor ever decides "this frisbee-catching is boring, I'm running into the stands", it's adorable. AWWWWWWWWWWW!
But if we bring in a lion and the lion decides the same? Much more interesting!

You don't have to look at Victor and he isn't going to run into the stands and shush you if you talk to your neighbors. I'm busting your spaceman balls, but I'm kinda with you on the patriotic platitudes. I'll clap for the veteran of the week but I don't interrupt my conversation or stand for a song like "God Bless America." I will for a song like Mr. Brightside though.

I always love seeing dogs and I think many would agree that not loving dogs is a sign of bad character. Nothing better to do when there are commercials going on for 3+ minutes.

Ah give the dog a break. It's still better than watching people throw balls two-handed into a barrel for scholarships every playoff game.

If Victor comes out every commerical break so I don't ever have to hear the announcement of how to do the "Go Blue" chant lead by the cheerleaders that'd be fine by me.

It's kind of amazing to think that someone, likely on the athletic department's payroll, during a brain-storming session thought, "Hey, I've got it! Guys, you know when our cheerleaders stand on each other's shoulders, hold up those big signs that say 'Go' on one and 'Blue' on the other, then the crowd says it? We should have the guy running the Super Mega-Jumbotron Deafenizer put Anthony on the screen and tell the crowd to do that!"
Then, in what should only be seen as an inexplicable turn of events, someone else, rather than back-handing whoever suggested it, instead said, "You know what? That's a good idea."

You leave the Glasgows alone!

The Michigan Stadium experience would be dismal and tragic without a frisbee chasing dog...

His owner when he doesn't throw the frisbee

I am not a fan of much of new fan experience ideas but I like Victor the frisbee dog. I'm sure other schools have frisbee dogs but Victor is unique to the Michigan fan experience unlike purchased trash like guess which helmet the football is under. It is also better than a DJ playing cheesy bar mitzvah music from 15-20 years ago or sending Anthony Bellino out on the field to inform us that it is time to say "Go Blue" or yellow and blue lights when we settle for a field goal.
The commercial breaks are oppressive but college football sold out and there is no going back to the days when games were not televised. I think there is opportunity to use the video boards for more sophisticated entertainment produced on campus. The James Earl Jones video is still good several years later - it is unique and is kept fresh. The script of the Charles Woodson video is beneath him.

We could use less punt catches, flashing lights, and emcee stuff. Why do we even need an emcee? Victor is ok but it seems like they are trying to add stuff that doesn't need to be there.

Victor is not merely "ok". He is affirmatively a very good boy.
September 29th, 2023 at 1:27 PM ^
The dog is definitely the best of them, but it has really gone off the deep end the last 5 years or so with the in-game entertainment vs the band just playing songs and introducing old M athletes and teams. I do recognize that is a byproduct of also having gone off the deep end with the number of commercials.
NFL commercials seem much less frequently interrupting, no?

WHO'S A GOOD BOY!

MSU and their goofball fans losing their minds but fail to realize we had Whiskey in the 1960s before they had their Zeke the Wonderdog.

Wow there’s a bunch of cranky old dudes on this thread.
The dog is fun and the crowd loves it.

This is a start. Now is the time to start beating the MGoBlog drum for a Victor UFR.
