(OT) What's your Plan: Nukes, Pink, or Both?
Hugely-anticipated weekend at the silver screen. Last time we had a collision of counter-programming like this was The Dark Knight against Mama Mia! (yes, another Nolan film).
Anyone planning to see both Oppenheimer and Barbie this weekend? On the same day, even?
Raises my hand. On Friday night, we have 6:20 pm tickets to Oppenheimer then 10:10 pm tickets to Barbie (same theatre, different rooms). Question, do we need to walk out the exit lane and circle around to have our tickets scanned again? Which we probably have to do anyway, the food is "outside" the ticketed area and I seriously am going to need a caffeinated product in our half-hour between films. "Does that come in an I.V. bag?"
I mean, who doesn't want three hours of nuclear incineration topped off by two hours of pink happiness.
Really looking forward to seeing Opie—that ‘moment’ in our history fascinates me. The book was a bit tediously detailed IMHO but the film’s previews have been excellent.
(Apologies for cheating on the placement, but this was too good/funny to be buried)
There's no way you have young children if you have 4 hours to spare on movies. I'm jealous. Enjoy.
Personally, I'd watch Oppenheimer and wait long enough to stream Barbie whenever it moves to Netflix or wherever.
Oppenheimer alone is 3 hours.
Yes. Going to do the Barbenheimer double feature on Sunday.
Name checks out:
You are probably gonna have to go pee pee or take a shit, so you can go out there to get rescanned.
Two words: Stadium Pal
Many years ago, I was at a Lions game with a few friends. It was at the Silverdome to put the timing in perspective. We were drinking the huge, but fairly cheap beers. One by one, we were making constant trips to the men's room, except for one friend. Around the third quarter I noticed he kept getting cold and covering himself with his coat. Yep, he was refilling his empty cups and putting them under his seat. I still haven't fully decided if he was a total pig or brilliant, although I'm leaning towards the former.
1) For sure the former, thinking of the poor bastard that had to clean up his piss cups left under the seat. 2) Fairly cheap beers in a stadium ABSOLUTELY means this was a long time ago.
Two words: cooler pooper.
Everyone’s different, but you couldn’t possibly drag me to Barbie.
You could drag me to Barbie with a bunch of drag queens!
Thank you for sharing your proclivities?

Gross.
id love to see oppenheimer. looks great. i hate your thread title. it makes me feel old and confused.
Also, your last sentence is umm.. well.. could be taken multiple ways
I would totally do things the other way around.
yeah, pretty sure after things are nuked the interest subsides for some time.
Barbie
That answer + your avatar = internet gold
Got tickets to see Oppenheimer at the Detroit Science Center in IMAX 70mm next Thursday. Getting there nice and early to get a center seat, and needless to say, I'm pretty jazzed to see this movie in that level of quality and detail.
Will likely wait for Barbie to find its way across the internets and watch it on Plex.
Nice! I'm not doing the double feature, but I've got ticked for the 70mm IMAX in Grand Rapids on Sunday.
I’ll be honest, I don’t get the point of seeing Oppenheimer in imax. It’s a biopic. How well do you really need to see cillian Murphys face while he gets ram rodded by McCarthyism?
The explosion scenes alone would make it worth it, but focus on the political side if you'd like.
Christopher Nolan's films have such a huge sense of scale that I think it'll definitely be worth seeing on the biggest screen I can get myself in front of. As for the 70mm part- that's more about resolution than it is about the size of the frame. It reminds me of PT Anderson's 'The Master,' which I think is one of the best looking films of the last several years, and which I believe was shot on 70mm (although not in IMAX, and it was never screened with 70mm prints). The detail in the closeup shots of faces in that one was stunning, and I think it really added to the atmosphere of those sequences.
I might go see Oppenheimer when I'm at the beach next week. It's feasible because I'll have grandparents that can babysit. You couldn't pay me enough to go see barbie unless my 6 year old daughter wanted to see it, but I don't think it's a 6 year old movie.
I am looking forward to Oppenheimer. The barbie movie looks like just a popcorn flick. Pass.
What's wrong with a "popcorn flick?" Aren't popcorn flicks the essence of movie-going?
As you sit, spending your time reading MGoBlog. It's okay to seek entertainment, and distraction from every day life.
The Barbie movie is pure garbage and exploitative at that.
MGoBlog is...not that.
I mean, what? It's a movie dog?
I grew up playing with Barbie's but I'll need to hear some reviews before I go. That's a lot of pink to take in for 2 hours. I do really like Greta Gerwig so maybe she can pull off something fantastic.
The only thing I want to see in pink is Margot Robbie.
She is absolutely the only reason i would go see this movie. Just put the thing on mute and stare at her.
How about Sound of Freedom instead? I heard good things about it.

Reviews are mixed. There are the obvious people who love it for vague wandering political reasons, or those that hate it for vague wandering political reasons.
As for the reviewers that have just reviewed the film, it sounds like a good movie that could have been considerably better. From what I have heard, Caviezel, while a very fine actor and passionate about the subject matter, is miscast in the lead. It also sounds like Mira Sorvino is almost a non-character. Bill Camp got rave reviews but he is Bill Camp and is never anything short of awesome.
Many are also saying that it cannot make up its mind whether it is a somber drama with hints of action, or a kind of over the top action movie about a serious subject.
I will definitely see it, but I don't go to the theater really anymore unless I am seeing a movie with my kids so I will probably stream it.
This was the review I was looking for yesterday. Thank you!
You state reviews are mixed and then only post the negative reviews. Interesting.
Oh wait, I mean "interesting".
Weird that you neglected to post any positives.
That is why it is called film “criticism.” And I did post a positive. Bill Camp is getting rave reviews.
no no goblu. Don't deny it now.
Tell us, when did you join the deep state? And how much are they paying these days? Is it a lot? Are there any openings?
he literally didn’t do that at all.
curious if you lack reading comprehension, or meerly chose to read what you want in something regardless of what is typed out?
Reviews are mixed? Reviews are always mixed. If you are looking to summarize the state of the reviews, 73 and a 100 on rotten tomatoes and 8.1 on IMDB hardly qualifies as mixed. The reviews are mostly positive.
Too soon.
Qanon propaganda.
Child trafficking is a very real and very serious problem, worldwide, and it is getting worse. The film is apolitical about a very ugly international problem that is seldom discussed.
I'm guessing you missed the thread that Seth deleted. I suggest deleting the text of both your posts in this thread.
Ok. I certainly did not see any prior posts about this and did not think I had posted anything controversial but if there is a specific reason for me to delete it I will. Not looking for any "trouble" of any kind. Just talking movies.
You don't have to before you ruffle feathers.
