Jaelin Llewellyn Expected to Return for 2023-24 MBB season
https://247sports.com/college/michigan/Article/Michigan-PG-Jaelin-Llewellyn-reveals-plans-for-2023-24-season-will-return-to-the-Wolverines-206900016/
Not official until the medical redshirt granted, but Jaelin announced his plan to return.
Hopefully he'll be fully recovered from the ACL injury and bring some depth and experience to the backcourt.
The program seems aimless right now, I hope Juwan starts understanding roster management way better than he has up to this point.
But even if he did that, his in game coaching, TO usage, rotation usage and end of game coaching leaves a lot to be desired.
So now we know why Frankie Collins declared for the draft.
JH content with building the most average team in history. I hear he’s hoping to have 13 nominees for B1G 6th man of the year.
Sorry but, Llewellyn is nowhere near that level. The love for the disaster that this program has become is baffling.
Is ellerbe free to join as well?
In the Water Finds Its Level Dept.: last I heard he was at Morgan State.
...as an assistant.
...to THEE todd bozeman.
update: now the AD at Abp. John Carroll HS in DC.
i can't make this up.
That would definitely help with depth. Dug acquitted himself very well but depth never hurts.
This does not help, he was bad before the injury. Juwan will play him so this doesn’t bode well. Wish him well but it’s an awful move for the program
You all are fucking miserable.
Michigan has the most fickle fanbase in the country.
2020, "FIRE HARBAUGH!:
2021, Beat OSU and win the B1G..."give Harbaugh a lifetime contract!"
2022, Harbaugh shows NFL interest..."FUCK HARBAUGH, LET HIM GO! BUT FIRE WARDE!"
2022, "Santa time! LET'S GOOOOOOOOO!"
2022, "Michigan has the worst NIL in the country (even if I have no idea what it really is)...FIRE WARDE!"
2022, Beat OSU and win the B1G..."give Harbaugh 10 years/$35M per!" (some of you actually suggested those numbers)
2022, Michigan's recruiting class finishes only slightly better than one that yield Hutchinson, McGrone, Mayfield, Hayes, Green (and Green), Upshaw, Gray, Barrett, Schoonmaker, Haskins, Bell...and oh, Jake fucking Moody. "THE SKY IS FALLING! HARBAUGH IS OUT OF TOUCH AND MIKE HART CAN'T RECRUIT...FIRE MIKE HART!"
2023, Harbaugh shows NFL interest..."FIRE WARDE! MICHIGAN SUCKS! SANTA BETTER GET THIS SHIT TOGETHER! LET HARBAUGH WALK, CLEARLY HE DOESN'T WANT TO BE HERE!"
2023, Michigan adds 7 transfers, 6 of which are locks to be in the two-deep (+ Jack Tuttle). "GOOOOO BLUUUUE!!! NATTY TIME!!" 🙄
Doesn't it get exhausting?
This basketball team was in the Sweet 16 as a #11 seed just over a year ago.
Two years ago THEY WON THE FUCKING B1G and went to the Elite 8!
One bad year (that was obnoxiously/ridiculously close to being a solid year) and the fickle fans are at it again...it's pathetic.
Please, just go root for Bama or Georgia Football...and I have no idea what college basketball team. Maybe root for Kansas or Gonzaga.
Then again, you idiots would be starting threads like, "Has Mark Few hit his ceiling?"
Doesn’t it get exhausting being so upset over what other people post on a message board?
Also, you make some wildly inaccurate arguments.
1) Nobody cared after 2021 when the media was reporting teams were interested in Harbaugh because that happened after every season. People lost it when Harbaugh got on a plane to Minnesota and by all appearances was going to take the job.
2) Who on Earth was calling for Mike Hart to be fired following the 2022 season? If anyone actually called for that, I bet they were negged to infinity, so I don’t see how that’s a strike against the entire fan base.
3) After 2022, people’s reactions to Harbaugh wasn’t that he was merely showing interest in the NFL, but that he appeared to be desperate to leave after implying the past year and even in December that he wouldn’t pursue any NFL job. I wasn’t among this camp, but those saying good riddance were saying it because they didn’t want to do this every year until Harbaugh finally convinced an NFL team to take him.
4) People aren’t being fickle for wanting Warde fired. There’s clearly a weird rift between him and Harbaugh; by all accounts, he’s holding back Michigan’s NIL program (which, yes, is a legit concern); and his handling of the Mel Pearson situation was beyond inept (which I noticed you put purposefully left out of your timeline). He should be fired.
5) You were accurate in saying that Michigan’s basketball team was an 11 seed last year, but I fail to see how that helps your argument. Howard’s resume at Michigan so far is one great season, 2 middling on-the-bubble seasons, and a miserable season that was just as close to being an utter train wreck than it was to being “solid.” Yes, they lost a handful of close games in increasingly excruciating fashion because of their own miscues that prevented them from slipping into the tournament as a double-digit seed for the 2nd-straight year. But they also won a handful of close games that prevented the season from being The Worst Ever (EMU, Ohio, Lipscomb, Wisconsin at home). You can’t ignore those games and act like Michigan was a tournament-level team that was simply unlucky.
Most people in the fan base want to give Howard a year to right the ship. I think that’s more than fair. If next year the team takes another step back (which is more than possible if Kobe leaves), then he should be fired. Hopefully he pulls a Beilein/Harbaugh, changes his approach, and makes anyone speculating about his job status look stupid. But if he doesn’t, it’s not fickle to say it’s time to move on.
“You’re all miserable”- thus begins a long caps-locked rant . You seem totally reasonable, dude.
Awesome roster in year 5
Great job Juwan!
Juwan cashed the winning lottery ticket in the #1 class two years ago and it's destroyed his chances of sustainable success. Get rich quick has not worked for any program in the country.
Duke, UNC, UK, they are all worse off than they were 15 years ago.
Duke won the ACC Tourney this year and was in the Final 4 last year
UNC was in the Title game last year with solid portal transfer pickup in Brady Manek
Kentucky has won 25+ games 7 of the last 10 years
Michigan has lost 31 games in the last 2 years and on the bubble 3 of the last 4 years
One of these things is not like the others
lol

Dispute the point I made that traditional bluebloods have navigated the portal and highly ranked recruiting classes better than your unqualified hero Juwan
This is a good move. We had no backcourt depth when he went down. He did not succeed in his role before the injury but we were asking a lot from him. If he is the backup PG and SG, that means either Kobe came back or we replaced his production with someone else. If JL is playing starter level minutes, we are going to be in trouble.
Just hope he add some weight and get stronger. Hope he hits Camp Sanderson hard this off season
Yep, exactly where my head went. I'm still not sure the roster decisions/portal targets I'm seeing make much sense but just gotta see how it all shakes out.
I do fear that Coach Howard doesn't sense the urgency needed here but we'll know more soon.
Good for Llewellyn. Go Blue!
Would rather get another transfer guard and maybe one that can hit a jump shot.
Good. He should be able to play the 2 if Kobe goes pro. Obviously it gives us depth and flexibility at the point if Kobe comes back
I'm hoping for a Edey to Michigan announcement. Why not, they lost in first round and got blown out, he could be like Dickinson and split. Maybe that's what Tschetter was referring to.
People aren’t actually expecting Edey to transfer to Michigan, right?
Hoping JL is healed up & game ready for the start of next season.
Keep adding ballhandlers and athletic wings, get a defensive coordinator on the coaching staff, and back up the Brinks NIL truck to entice Kobe to come back.
I’ll take him as an off guard backing up the point. I think there’s a lot of potential there. He was a stud at Princeton as I can recall. Plus experienced players are gold in this sport. Hope he gets the med shirt and kicks some butt next year.
So much salt in this thread. A 3 guard rotation of Dug Jaelin Nimari is going to be fine. That’s not where the issues are.
I think the inability for the guards to get consistent penetration with a threat to finish was a huge issue.
I think it depends on what we do with the other spots. A rotation of JL, Dug and Burnett means Kobe left and we would need to replace his athleticism and playmaking at the 2 or 3 spot. So it could work with a good player at the 3 with a bit of ability to get their own bucket or create for others.
To be honest, the team probably needs him, despite his ugly start to last season. They have no point guard depth to speak of. Better him than another another Ivy League loaner who will have to spend the first 3/4 of the year getting used to the team and competition level.
I would take my chances with a lot of guard players out there, he was not good in most capacities last season before the injury and lacked confidence and court awareness. Unless it’s for less than 5 minutes a game, it’s a bad sign for this program. Have little to no confidence in this coaching staff
You need at least two more guards aside from Dug and GW3. I think Burnett is more of a low usage wing than a guard. If Kobe comes back, you’re going to have a hard time convincing a portal guy to come in and be a backup. If Kobe doesn’t come back, JL is already a ready made backup and won’t scare a transfer looking for a high usage role away. In a reduced role, I have a hard time seeing him as bad as he was this year.
I feel like venn diagran of people who are being dramatic about Juwan Howard and who wanted Harbaugh fired is a circle.
It’s completely different. Harbaugh has a long history of success as a head coach. Juwan was a risky move with no head coaching experience at any level and achieved his success with JB’s players and player development for the most part
2020-21 team had Livers, Brooks and Davis. Every other significant contributor was either a recruit or transfer that never played for JB.
And solid contributor off the bench Brandon Johns. And the only reason Franz came here is because Beilein recruited his brother.
But besides that all Juwan guys lol
Doesn’t matter why Franz came. He developed under Juwan. So did Davis. And Brooks. So seems like Juwan has developed players IMO. Johns an enigma under three good coaching staffs.
Roster management is the biggest issue IMO. Haven’t recruited guys that will stick around multiple years to benefit from development. And the back end recruits look bad.
Yeah, and how about the overlap between the circles for “it’s not Juwan’s fault” and “Brady Hoke’s gonna be great, he beat OSU and won a Bowl game”.
I don't understand why the medical red shirt matters. It's not like he's gonna play for 4 years, anyway.
He played 3 years before coming to Michigan. Without the medical he's out of eligibility.
what about the free covid year?
Princeton didn't play the 2020-21 season, so that's not one of the 3 seasons he played before coming to Michigan.
I’m fine with this I guess, assuming JL is a better player than he showed in his first 9 games. Also assuming he will be better suited for the combo guard/ 6th man role.
BUT, this team needs a massive talent upgrade if they are even going to sniff the bubble next year and I don’t see where that is going to happen if they just keep the same roster of scrubs. They need a ton of positive attrition and other than Barnes I’m not seeing it yet.
So I've got...
- Reed
- TBD
- Baker
- Burnett
- McDaniel
- Kante
- Tschetter
- Williams
- Khayat
- Llewellyn
- Glenn
- Ja. Howard
- Washington
(OUT: Dickinson, Bufkin, Barnes, Je. Howard)
Too many "low spades." I keep saying this, but this team has solid players, they're just forced to play them in bigger roles than they should be in.
If you have a second team with Tschetter, Williams, and Baker...you are in a good position. I'd put Llewellyn in there as well. When those guys are forced into starting roles, that's the issue.
Dream with me. Turn TBD into Trayce Jackson-Davis. Put Bufkin in Baker's spot, drop Baker to Khayat's spot, put Khayat where Jace Howard is, and move Howard to NIL/Walk-On.
How do you feel about that that team?
All you did was put everyone in the proper role and the team is sooo much better.
Low spaces are valuable, just not when they're your best cards.
Llewellyn returning is a positive. Assuming he's in the right role. Burnett is a positive. Assuming he's not your best perimeter player.
Michigan is not in terrible position, but you have to hit a home run with "TBD" and it's time to move Jace to walk-on/NIL and free up another spot for another starter (assuming Bufkin goes to the NBA).
We have freed up plenty of space the last couple years. What has gone into that space is the problem. If you have 13 scholarships and cant find 7 solid players thats on you.
We have 7 solid players.
We don't have 2-3 top end players...and yes, that's on Juwan.
I will have patience though because the portal and NIL all happened right as he became a first time head coach.
You can't build a team with guys who take 3 years to develop and you don't get your elite recruits long enough to develop them.
I personally would go straight portal for my top end talent and I would recruit the 4* types and develop them for depth and with hopes that you'll get an Eli Brooks or two who can play with my top 2-3 top end transfers to give me a legit starting 5.
Buff officially declared just now. I don’t know how one can possibly think we will be in better shape with this coaching staff next year with any roster let alone one that just lost its 3 best players.
