Rick Pitino moving back to a big program: It's no longer a matter of if, but where
Early rumors have him headed to St. Johns:

Once again proves that no matter what sordid things are in a coaches past, as long as he can win games some school, even a faith focused "reputable" one like SJ, will hire him.
Hey NYC, hookers and blow for everyone Slick Rick is in town!!!
St Johns is sketchy as hell, they are a catholic school but a lion's share of scandals that dont become national news only because the school isn't known for anything besides it's basketball team making the tourney every few years. Carneseca is an absolute legend, his reputation is unimpeachable though.
Perfect fit for Pitino.

Coaches and players

Technically Liberty is a faith focused school too....just saying.
March 11th, 2023 at 11:18 AM ^
"Faith-focused" is actually the perfect excuse. "We believe in forgiveness", etc.
What's amazing is how many people eat it up as opposed to holding the Liberty's of the world to task.
March 11th, 2023 at 12:23 PM ^
They only believe in forgiveness when it's someone that's on their "side"...and/or when it's convenient for them to forgive.

As a teenager, I worked at a produce market/deli in a somewhat sketchy part of Detroit. One of my coworkers was a 40ish man who’d recently been released from a 20+ year stint in prison for murder. One day he lectured me about how he was going to heaven because he’d been “saved” in jail and how I wasn’t because, even though I’d never, you know, murdered anyone, I hadn’t accepted Jesus as my savior. While this certainly isn’t indicative of all Christians, for many of them you can do whatever you want as long as you’re on their team…
And this isn't limited to coaching or sport.

He’s a 70 year old sex vampire so of course he’s in demand.
March 11th, 2023 at 12:07 AM ^
I'd take him for 5 years.
We'd be elite immediately.
It's been a few months:
To what do we owe the pleasure? :)
a michigan fan that honestly makes a “let’s get rick pitino” suggestion only proves that they have absolutely zero understanding of university of michigan sports.
you’re an idiot. go away and don’t come back.
Also proves they weren't around UM at the turn of the millennium

Michigan hired Rich Rodriguez as the head coach of their signature program and their legendary coach overlooked the sexual assault OF HIS OWN PLAYERS.
I'm not saying Michigan should hire Pitino, but let's get off the damn high horse.
March 11th, 2023 at 11:37 AM ^
So what is the argument here? That because Michigan has at times fallen short of its ethical standards, we should dispense with them altogether?
What ethical standards? They hired Rick Rod who anyone, with the help of a $25 background check, would have known had skeletons in his closet. They continue to employ Juwan Howard, who, at best, has a serious anger management issue. I won't even get into the Bo issues.
The original comment was: "a michigan fan that honestly makes a “let’s get rick pitino” suggestion only proves that they have absolutely zero understanding of university of michigan sports." Is a hypothetical Pitino hire so much ethically worse than the above?
March 12th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
yes, dummy.
first of all: if you can find some evidence that rodriguez was some sort of serial abuser when he was hired - something that was so obvious that a “$25 background check” would’ve found it - let’s hear it.
and yes, bo. also has nothing to do with the discussion of rick pitino.
the point is that hiring rick freaking pitino would mean ignoring the decades of cheating, to say nothing of having sex with women in restaurants and using prositutes and blow to help recruiting, for the sake of “being elite,” or rather, more elite than we’ve been. which we are, this current season notwithstanding. it’s dumb, and it’s NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN. not here. but you knew that already.
“double b” must stand for ”double boring.”

Didn't Pitino turn down the Michigan job many years ago?
March 11th, 2023 at 12:08 AM ^
I thought that you said big program, then I saw St. John’s.
Good luck Rick
March 11th, 2023 at 10:21 AM ^
I was wondering if I woke up 40 years ago....
March 11th, 2023 at 12:09 PM ^
Remember that one time they had a player drafted by an NBA team? I think it was 40ish years ago…

St. John, meet Lucifer
While it doesn’t erase the disgrace of us losing a National Championship banner with garbage officials and his cocaine and hookers he used to build his team, I do still take solace in seeing Mo Wagner pump fake a 3 and drive past Donovan Mitchell to seal a victory and cast off that slimeball’s tenure at Louisville in 2017.
That win was quite gratifying, taking down dirty Rick and 2 seed Louisville as a 7 seed.
Obviously selling your soul is a lot cheaper these days.
Look the guy is absolutely not a role model, but there's no denying he is a HELL of a ball coach.
Waaay too tall for Pitino.
March 11th, 2023 at 11:31 AM ^
No. Part of being a coach is setting an example of how to be an honorable man to your team and fans. Pitino is an abject failure at that.
I guess he was due another 15 seconds of fame.
March 11th, 2023 at 10:40 AM ^
Judging by what I remember from the description of the Pitino Table incident, 15 seconds is way too long.
March 11th, 2023 at 11:37 AM ^
"15 seconds" was exactly the description of his time at the table
Thank you, I stand corrected.
March 11th, 2023 at 10:09 AM ^
St John's is a "Big program"? Maybe in 1990
March 11th, 2023 at 10:17 AM ^
Pitino and Urban can get together in NY and have a great time together. Both are scumbags and deserve each other.
Why is this even post worthy, who cares about this dirtbag.

Here's Johnnies!
March 11th, 2023 at 10:46 AM ^
Guys like a cockroach! No matter how many times you think he's been squished for good, he re-appears yet again
March 11th, 2023 at 11:09 AM ^
Hookers and blow in Queens is one helluva recruiting pitch smh. But being in NYC a lot, it would be nice to see St. Johns, The Yankees, the Mets, the Giants, the Jets (LOL), and the Knicks all being good at the same time.
March 11th, 2023 at 12:34 PM ^
St. Johns isn't just some lecherous 70-year-old away from being a top 15 team but I guess NY sports radio still thinks it's the 80s out there.
Anyway, good like to the Johnies trying to keep Slick Rick away from the bottle and women in NYC.
