Deputy Brandin Hawthorne Shoutout from OCSO
The Orange County Sheriff's office gave a shoutout to their officers who used to be football players as a lead-in to this weekend's Super Bowl. Former Wolverine Brandin Hawthorne is included. Great to see a Wolverine who helped us through some of low years in the program serving his community this way.

I seem to recall him having a stellar game in Under the Lights 1.

They sure know how to play football down in Pahokee, or something like that.

Brandin Hawthorne - NOTRE DAME (Sept. 10, 2011) ... tackle-for-loss and pass break-up were each first of his career in his junior year.
Therefore you are correct.

He had a huge TFL on Cierre Wood that stalled a ND drive and I believe Denard went down the field and made it a one score game on the following Michigan drive.
Hawthorne read the play and timed the blitz to perfection. It was really in that moment that you could see the drastic impact that Greg Mattison had on the defense in such a short period of time.
I think Herbstreit made some comment after the play about “they sure know how to play football down in Pahokee.”

My recollection is that he made all three stops on that set of downs, allowing M to get the ball back with under 2 minutes left, down 3.

Am I misremembering a pick 6 in an early season game? I swear he at least had a pick along the Michigan sideline. Also bourbon is not your friend.

I think you're probably thinking of Brandon Herron, who had two defensive TDs (pick six + strip six) in the 2011 lightning-shortened opener vs. WMU.

Yes! 100%! Thank you. He balled out that game then sort of vanished off the depth chart.

Dang that's a lot of high level talent in one sherriff's office. Wonder if Dade County or Hillsborough Co would stack up, if they played some friendly flag football games. Thanks for posting and hats off to those men and women for serving others.

From the 2021 MLIVE article I posted:
Hawthorne isn’t just reliving his Michigan days through conversations. He joined the nonprofit National Public Safety Football League this year, a 20-team league with rosters made up of first responders. Hawthorne’s team, the Orlando Guardians, went 5-0 in the pandemic-shortened season.
