Greg McElroy Previews Michigan-Ohio State
November 23rd, 2022 at 1:30 PM ^
If we’re healthy I’d give us a good chance although OSU has got to be playing to stop the run. Hopefully JJ can take advantage.

Michigan hasn't made passing memorable since sometime in September. I don't see that changing.
November 23rd, 2022 at 2:42 PM ^
now isnt the time for such things. change your tude for a week. then we can revert back
November 23rd, 2022 at 3:02 PM ^
Here's to hoping that passing is NOT a memorable part of the game.
Go Blue!
November 23rd, 2022 at 8:03 PM ^
This might be wishful thinking, but I think we're healthier than the media thinks we are.
I think JH treated last week like a week 16 NFL game. He probably shouldn't have, because we have a backdoor into the playoff, but I think everybody who was in anyway marginal was being held back for this one.
November 24th, 2022 at 1:09 AM ^
As someone who has listened to a lot of pundits talk about this game, and ‘gambling people’, I would concur with this notion. They really seem to be really focusing on the Illinois game and seem to be of mindset that it’s still ‘iffy’ if a lot our guys are back playing or not when it seems like on our end we have a pretty good idea from following quotes and the Michigan insiders of the world.
I am a bit baffled at this spread, even with the Corum stuff, and perhaps I will look like the ‘dummy’ in the end of all this, but for now I gladly took the +8 earlier in the week and bet Michigan.

I don't follow. Losing to Ill/beating OSU would get Michigan in the playoff, almost certainly, whereas beating Ill/losing to OSU is more dicey. There is no scenario where beating Illinois was more important than beating OSU.

I always liked McElroy!
I actually didn’t, but he’s coming around!
November 23rd, 2022 at 8:35 PM ^
He's been a fan of Harbaugh for a while now...
November 23rd, 2022 at 1:39 PM ^
Interesting that he said Chambers and Eichenberg are elite. Michigan made them look like JV players in The Game last year. They were out of position, tired, knocked backwards, etc....Expecting nothing different just because Knowles is in town.
November 23rd, 2022 at 3:09 PM ^
They were awful and inexperienced last year. Eichenberg in particular has emerged and has had a tremendous season. Keep an eye on #35.
November 23rd, 2022 at 3:45 PM ^
You don't get to have your cake and eat it too. Michigan made the OSU LB's look silly last year and I don't expect some magically change because Knowles is in town. Sure, they may be better off schematically, but Michigan overpowered them last year and scheme can't make up the difference IMO.
November 23rd, 2022 at 4:29 PM ^
You do realize players improve? Vincent Grey went from huge liability to playing an important role in shutting down argueably OSU's greatest WR group in history. It can happen for OSU players too. That being said I expect those linebackers to have a rough day.
November 23rd, 2022 at 4:39 PM ^
You can’t be serious with this take. You don’t think it’s possible that a college football player could have gotten better in a full calendar year?
November 25th, 2022 at 10:50 AM ^
#35 is way better than last year and Chambers was a running back till last year . And schematic’s make a huge difference on a game plan ..
November 23rd, 2022 at 6:27 PM ^
Despite what happened last year, Eichenberg is a beast. Very good player. I hope he gets destroyed Saturday, but he is good.
November 23rd, 2022 at 7:13 PM ^
One thing I will look for is to see if Michigan's scheme and execution can take advantage of OSU's increased aggresiveness to make their LB's wrong when they do commit early with gap exchanges, etc. to stop the run.
November 23rd, 2022 at 5:54 PM ^
OSU has a totally different scheme and concept this year and a lot of it is due to THE GAME last year.
Their current design is to contain-stop the run and keep the QB in the pocket. Their new DC - Nowles - said he expects to get beat with longer pass plays 3 to 4 times a game and if you look at the results this year, that's exactly where they've been beat. They leave their CBs one-on-one quite often. Last year, not only us and Oregon, but everybody pounded them on the ground.
JJ will have to have a decent game if we're successful. I heard on the local Columbus news that they've only given up over 1100+ yards the whole year (100+ yards / game) on the ground and had almost that many in just 4 games last year (Us, Oregon and I didn't catch the other 2)
November 24th, 2022 at 12:57 AM ^
Columbus radio would never be slanted toward, oh wait, what?!
November 24th, 2022 at 10:06 AM ^
Of course they are. I'm just throwing the stats out there - from last year to this year - that I also picked up on Eleven Warriors. Stats can't be slanted.
Just saying that it's going to be a lot harder to run on them this year and JJ will need to have a decent game.
November 23rd, 2022 at 1:43 PM ^
Obviously this guy knows his football!
November 23rd, 2022 at 1:58 PM ^
he obviously didn't listen to the Roundtable yesterday.
November 23rd, 2022 at 2:00 PM ^
I'd rather somebody preview the injury update.
November 23rd, 2022 at 7:17 PM ^
You know Harbaugh isn’t giving anyone outside Schemchler Hall anything to work with…..
November 23rd, 2022 at 2:20 PM ^
Don't know much about his track record (if him picking Michigan is good or bad)
The good news is Danny Kanell -- who is absurdly bad at picking spreads -- said to lay the points with OSU
November 23rd, 2022 at 3:53 PM ^
McElroy goes on Daily Wager each week to give his 3 best bets against the spread & he generally has the best record or close to it
November 23rd, 2022 at 2:48 PM ^
Actually really liked his thoughts (not just because he picked Michigan) but because he actually talks about specific matchups, tendencies etc. and how our lines stack up against theirs. And he's seen at least one of the teams in person so he's not just seeing a few clips or reading box scores. Very interesting that he's been on the ground and reviewed things, and concedes that we should win in the trenches.
November 23rd, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
Morris will have to have the game of his life. What worries me is what MSU was able to do with Keon Coleman, Harrison Jr has a similar build.
November 23rd, 2022 at 4:34 PM ^
MSU scored 7 points. I'll take that on Saturday.
November 23rd, 2022 at 3:36 PM ^
I sure hope Blake only got a minor knee bruise and is ready to go on Saturday! Then I think we have a decent chance to win!
November 23rd, 2022 at 4:49 PM ^
I hope for the return of Corum's back-up and best receiver on the team, Donovan Edwards, as well. A return of Schoonmaker wouldn't hurt, nor the healing of the OL walking wounded. Morris too. Now that I look at it, with all the injuries not participating last week, Michigan was literally, okay, figuratively, playing with one arm tied behind its back.
November 24th, 2022 at 6:44 AM ^
Edwards is our best pass catcher and arguably almost as important as Corum in this game
November 23rd, 2022 at 5:40 PM ^
This time last year there was a lot of chatter around benching (Blake*) Cade in favor of JJ. Fickle fans!
*Edit: Booted is correct!
November 23rd, 2022 at 7:38 PM ^
November 24th, 2022 at 12:23 PM ^
People were calling for Cade to be benched the week of OSU last year? I don't remember that.
Earlier in the season, yes.
November 23rd, 2022 at 4:11 PM ^
Like that he sees Michigan as more physical. Don't tell anyone born on 3rd base but that is code for "tougher".
November 23rd, 2022 at 6:45 PM ^
Win the “Game”
November 23rd, 2022 at 7:15 PM ^
All hinges on Michigan’s level of health coming into the game, particularly at RB and OL.
If we’re good to go in that department, Michigan has more than a puncher’s chance. If they play up to their potential it’s a coin flip.
If Corum/Edwards/Stokes can’t go or are all limited, then short of McCarthy putting the team on his back and delivering a Heisman performance of his own I just don’t see a realistic path to winning.
November 23rd, 2022 at 7:37 PM ^
Day was predicting putting up 100 last year, any word on his prediction for this year?
