OT: Deion Sanders is the Man
Amazing 60 mins piece. He is doing really impressive things at JSU. He reminds me a little bit of Harbaugh - same enthusiasm, same approach, same drive.
Sanders is also not hiding the fact that he will likely leave for the P5 (but not the NFL, interestingly enough): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jz1YfvAw5Ow

He's an asshole.
October 17th, 2022 at 9:10 PM ^
You must be fun at parties.
October 17th, 2022 at 9:13 PM ^
Like he ever gets invited to them anymore.
October 17th, 2022 at 9:23 PM ^
Yeah says the guy calling someone an asshole whom hes never met.
October 17th, 2022 at 10:02 PM ^
WHY DON’T YOU MAKE ME
October 18th, 2022 at 10:25 AM ^
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?!? I AM!!!
October 17th, 2022 at 10:54 PM ^
Any particular reason why he’s an asshole?
October 17th, 2022 at 11:35 PM ^
Barry Sanders should think he is an asshole. Deion should have been drafted in his spot.
October 18th, 2022 at 8:24 AM ^
He's *ahem*, too "loud."
October 18th, 2022 at 11:18 AM ^
The only negative I can think of when it comes to Prime is the Fisk/run it out episode, but: 1) wrong sport; 2) I'd bet a coffee that Sanders would now say that Fisk was right and that he's embarrassed by it.
October 18th, 2022 at 7:11 AM ^
Tim McCarver...is that you?
October 18th, 2022 at 10:31 AM ^
You're a real man, Romeo50.
October 18th, 2022 at 12:26 PM ^
Thanks!
October 17th, 2022 at 9:14 PM ^
Would love to see him at GT
October 17th, 2022 at 9:21 PM ^
Im just not sure he could get the right kids admitted in there that he would want. I think thats a tough job for pretty much anyone.
i do think he’d be a rockstar at ASU though
October 17th, 2022 at 9:49 PM ^
He would make FSU a monster again.
With that recruiting base and his charisma and history, he'd have FSU competing with Clemson for playoff spots within 2 years. Apparently their current HC is doing well and has rebuilt some of the culture there, but Deion would be a rockstar in Tallahassee
October 17th, 2022 at 9:19 PM ^
The best Deion story is how he showed up to the combine late in a limo, ran a sub 4.3 in sweatpants, and left without doing any of the other events.
October 17th, 2022 at 10:01 PM ^
I've got a better one.
Summer 2000, Louisville, Kentucky. We took our Little League team to River Bat Stadium to watch the River Bats play. At the time Deion Sanders was a member of the Cincinnati Reds AAA affiliate. We got their early to watch BP along the LF foul line. Sanders was in the OF shagging flys when one our players calls out, "Hey, Deion, sign my ball." Sanders waves at one of the bat boys who brings out a bag of balls. Sanders spent the next 15 minutes talking to the boys and signing baseballs for each of them. He asked for nothing in return and received the undying admiration of each one of those 15 players.
October 17th, 2022 at 10:31 PM ^
I don't believe you because FranzWagner said he's an asshole
October 17th, 2022 at 10:33 PM ^
1999 cooper stadium columbus ohio. Deion had a bad game. A 9 year old kid stayed till the middle of the night to get an autograph. Deion and his lady friend leave the locker room, he takes the kids card, rips it in half and stated "f*** off kid".
Not a fan.
October 17th, 2022 at 11:00 PM ^
Were you that kid?
October 18th, 2022 at 9:52 AM ^
franz wagner obviously
October 17th, 2022 at 11:36 PM ^
Columbus? Probably assumed the kid was an osu fan.
Nice.

I know a guy who was at that same combine.... all time leading rusher for NMU (wildcats) he said it was sureal..... there were rumors that he was going to do that, but no one really believed it was going to go down that way.... and then it did... LOL
Neon Deon..... Mr. Primetime
October 17th, 2022 at 9:24 PM ^
He ran a fake high school that was a total scam.
October 17th, 2022 at 9:40 PM ^
So Deion —- he got in an after game verbal dust up with the Alabama State coach the Saturday before this last one.
Which fine —- it’s an emotional game, that happens occasionally, I get it. The thing that struck me about watching the video though: Deion was wearing a sweatshirt that said “Jackson State” on the front but said (in much larger font size) his INSTAGRAM HANDLE on the back!
That is what would concern me about hiring him for a higher profile role. Even into his 50s now, he is still a narcissistic self promoter. It’s too much about him.
October 17th, 2022 at 9:44 PM ^
I’m honestly surprised it wasn’t the other way around
October 17th, 2022 at 9:47 PM ^
Lol nice.
Is he a narcissistic self promoter? Yes. Are you now hearing about and talking about JSU? Also yes. Did that ever happen before? No.
October 17th, 2022 at 9:55 PM ^
Here's the question and I honestly don't know the answer. Where does it leave JSU when he's done? Does the circus and all the attention leave with him or is JSU and the position of HBCU's better off for it?
October 17th, 2022 at 11:21 PM ^
I think so. They are getting facilities upgrades, etc. Don't forget that Walter Payton played there (albeit quite a while ago).
October 17th, 2022 at 11:47 PM ^
Take it back further. How about Lem Barney? Hall of Famer.
October 18th, 2022 at 5:42 AM ^
Walter Payton, Lem Barney, and other Afro-American players of the time were not allowed to play on SEC teams like Alabama until 1971.
With the disparity in funding, facilities, and NIL opportunities, it is unlikely that HBCU teams will ever be able to compete with Power 5 teams.
October 18th, 2022 at 9:10 AM ^
I would take JSU over 30% over P5 schools on a neutral field this upcoming Saturday. Before Deion got there / once Deion leaves, that number was / will be 0-1%.
That is why Deion should be back at FSU bringing them back to previously elite status.
October 17th, 2022 at 10:00 PM ^
Sure - I do, for the most part, believe in the theory of “any publicity is good publicity.” I get why Jackson State hired him.
Part of that post game chatter I referred to was Deion and Eddie Robinson JR (the ASU coach) arguing about who was “more SWAC.” Robinson was clearly hinting that Deion doesn’t care about JSU, the SWAC or historically black college football nearly as much as he cares about Deion.
And when the person you’re talking about is coaching while wearing clothing with his IG handle on it - well, I don’t think Robinson was completely wrong.
October 17th, 2022 at 10:39 PM ^
If he’s clearly hinting, is it really hinting?
October 18th, 2022 at 12:00 AM ^
correct take. He cares about himself ultimately. Inspiring story on 60 minutes, but I was turned off by when I heard him admit he'd bolt if a better coaching job came up.
October 18th, 2022 at 5:29 AM ^
This is an over-simple take. His son plays there--he's a fine, fine quarterback. Deion has nurtured the kid, the team, the school, its facilities, over half a decade now. Yes, he's an egotist, but that's work and dedication, too. And a fair lot of smarts. Probably, some publicist told him to wear the shirt. I cringe at the kind of self-promotion that I see some of my daughter's teen athlete friends engage in; it's an alien--to me--world. But Sanders didn't invent Instagram, or Instagram self-promotion.
A very well-prepared JSU squad beat the tar out of Robinson's team, front, back, and sideways--I watched enough of the game to know. Robinson was feeling a little bit punked.
October 18th, 2022 at 3:23 AM ^
You can believe it, but I never will. If they are talking about you for the wrong reasons then you’re probably just an asshole. There is a big difference between famous & infamous, and too many people don’t seem to care if it’s either one as long as they are known.
October 18th, 2022 at 1:05 AM ^
A certain player of ours wore a hat with his instagram name during 2018 season, liked said player but still think it was weird.
October 17th, 2022 at 10:03 PM ^
Never been a Deion fan. Too much me, me, me for my taste.
October 17th, 2022 at 11:02 PM ^
As opposed to?
I mean christ of course there's an ego. He also suited up to play 2 different sports in one 24 hour period to help both teams. But I'm sure we can twist that into a "look at me Louis".
October 18th, 2022 at 10:46 AM ^
I was at the Falcons game on Sunday. Tons of Deion fans - in both San Fran and Atlanta jerseys!
I like the guy, but I tend to like cocky guys that get the job done.
October 17th, 2022 at 10:31 PM ^
If ever there was a person ready for a head coaching position in the XFL its this guy.
October 17th, 2022 at 10:49 PM ^
Must be the money
October 17th, 2022 at 11:22 PM ^
Grew up with Deion and Bo, those guys were incredible.
October 17th, 2022 at 11:38 PM ^
I never liked him, but I saw that 60 Minutes piece and I have to admit I'm very surprised. He's much more old school about coaching than I ever would have guessed. I saw another clip where he's dead-set opposed to things like players having cell phones at practice and wearing pants that are falling off hahaha, he sounds like he's turned into a 50+ year old "get off my lawn" guy.
I kinda like him now. He's done immense work for that school. He's going to get a P5 shot soonish.
October 18th, 2022 at 9:14 AM ^
I'm black and 50+ and get the feelings about the sag. Nobody wants to see your boxers, my brotha. That style is after our time. I hate it too.
October 18th, 2022 at 9:26 AM ^
And here I thought Clarence Boddicker was mostly red after his last showdown with RoboCop.
October 18th, 2022 at 12:55 AM ^
The question I have is whether he has matured enough to teach kids things beyond self-promotion. It's one thing to recruit like a god based on your NFL fame and public persona, and give snazzy interviews and project 'swagger', another thing to make these kids better football players and professionals.
I'm not even going to say that he needs to make them better people, but nobody is ready at 17 to be a NFL player without eating some humble pie and learning, learning, learning. I could see a matured version of Deion doing that, but some of his antics make you wonder just how matured he really is.
