Donovan Edwards injury?
I just watched a clip of Harbaugh’s press conference from today and someone asked him if there was any update on Donovan’s injury. He replied something like “No update, we are still working through some things.” I never heard that he was injured in the game. Hoping it’s nothing serious.

Maybe just a smokescreen so UConn doesn’t know who to prepare for? Hahahaha
September 12th, 2022 at 3:50 PM ^
How are they going to know whom to lunge at for a missed tackle?
September 12th, 2022 at 5:21 PM ^
Good subject-object who-whom, but you split your infinitive. "At whom to lunge"

I prefer a dangling participle to a split infinitive.

I realize this isn't helpful, but this morning, WTKA mentioned that Edwards went to the blue tent during the game.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:13 PM ^
Heard he tweaked his ankle, he certainly looked like he was walking off the field gingerly.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:08 PM ^
Word is sprained ankle. They don’t think it’s anything long term
September 12th, 2022 at 6:20 PM ^
If you watch the replay you can see him limping a little on the sidelines after his TD. Then he goes out on the punt return team and noticeably limps off from that. It didn't look serious, just like a turned ankle or a mild sprain.

Donovan is a redhead?
September 12th, 2022 at 8:43 PM ^
The blue tent is directly in front of my seats. I saw Donovan go into the tent and I got scared. However, he was only in there a few minutes. He emerged and seemed to walk ok.
September 12th, 2022 at 10:16 PM ^
Especially since he came out with a Yoo Hoo.

“working though some things” is usually Harbaugh speak for “week to week”

Especially true when you're 72 like me.

Welcome to the club. Every day above ground is a good day.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:24 PM ^
No evidence whatsoever other than my own eyes but it looked like he hit his head on that long pass reception. Maybe concussion protocol. I see a tweaked ankle listed above and that is just as likely.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:26 PM ^
I hope he didn't concuss himself after that catch, because that would be a very bad look for the sports medicine guys since he scored the TD on a run play on the very next down.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:31 PM ^
Not saying if he was injured on the pass play or not, but he did go into the endzone pretty gingerly on the next play.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:34 PM ^
I agree. But, I am sure Edwards knew his number was going to be called on the next play to punch it in the endzone - it was his drive after all - and did not mention it to anyone until he was ready to do so. Now, this is all speculation, but he certainly would not be the first player to "have his bell rung" only to unwisely tough it out.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:49 PM ^
I've sustained four concussions in my life resulting in temporary short-term memory loss, and in each case the effects of the concussion didn't become manifest until after several minutes had elapsed. I didn't lose consciousness in any of them, and in each case I bounced back to my feet without any problem.
Donovan caught the 33-yard pass when his head hit the turf at 9:03 of the quarter, and he ran the ball in on the very next play at 8:38, just 30 seconds or so later, so if he sustained a concussion the effects may not have shown up yet.
I'm not asserting he didn't have an ankle injury, but from I can tell from the play-by-play on ESPN.com, Edwards didn't touch the ball again after he scored the one-yard TD. Unless he was back on the field after that but didn't touch the ball, he would have injured his ankle during his three carries or on the pass he caught.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:22 PM ^
Not saying you're wrong, but they mentioned his ankle on the broadcast.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:29 PM ^
We're supposed to take your word for it? You're obviously addled.
September 13th, 2022 at 3:31 AM ^
My wife would not disagree with you.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:37 PM ^
He did. He stopped with kind of an odd step when tangled up with a defender going out of bounds and winced with a very slight limp back to the other sideline, and then was not seen again. Pretty sure he was not concussed and has a knee or ankle thing. Hope he's back in action soon.

Sit out UConn, Maryland, and Iowa if not needed during each of those games.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:47 PM ^
But who will throw the double pass against Iowa!
September 12th, 2022 at 3:55 PM ^
Edwards had 75 yards passing (on 1 attempt) vs Iowa last year
Penn State QB Ta'Quan Robertson had 34 yards passing (on 21 attempts) vs Iowa last year
September 12th, 2022 at 5:34 PM ^
Michael Barrett can do it.
September 12th, 2022 at 5:44 PM ^
This is ALWAYS the correct answer.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:26 PM ^
I hope the "Michael Barrett can do anything" references on Mgoblog last long after he's gone on to do big things post Michigan, whatever those are ... professional surfer, astronaut, NYT crossword puzzle editor, rock and roll hall of famer, Ambassador to France, what have you.
September 12th, 2022 at 8:31 PM ^
Michael Barrett--first man on Mars--finds water and surfs in it.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:44 PM ^
Certainly hope that it’s nothing serious. Maybe not a bad idea to have him sit UConn and have him (hopefully) ready for Maryland, or Iowa after that.
After seeing CJ Stokes run a few times the first two games, I think getting him some more reps would have some benefit for the stretch run. Having Edwards be able to step into a larger role when Corum got hurt was crucial for the later part of last season.

I’ve been “working through some things” for 64 years. It’s part of the process.

I was about to say.... the Lion's have been working through some things since 1955, shit happens.

They got a championship two years later.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:17 PM ^
damn... i missed by 2 years. its all hearsay anyway, i wasn't around back then.

I was!

September 12th, 2022 at 8:33 PM ^
Kind of like world war vets, soon there will be no one alive that lived through the last Lions championship. The Queen will be missed at those celebrations going forward.

We're all working through some things on our way to who knows where.
September 12th, 2022 at 3:56 PM ^
the fact that our #2 RB and multi-faceted five-star threat has a potentially significant injury, yet our response to this is "that's okay, we'll make do" is a testament to the order of magnitude our offense has progressed in the past few years.

"we need Derrick Green"
September 12th, 2022 at 3:59 PM ^
I think you h old him out to Iowa at least then.. i dont think offensive weapons will be an issue vs. maryland (last year's ridiculous game by him not withstanding). We need him later on.
I will say, on his one big run that i recall before the catch, he didnt look super fast on it.. maybe that was before the injury since he owned that drive.
I hope he's not a brittle guy-- he has a ton of talent, but, we have yet to see it consistently game after game. Against the Iowas and PSUs, we're gona need balance to Corum, and I hope he's it!
Stokes looked fantastic. more of him!
September 12th, 2022 at 4:02 PM ^
Hope he's okay. Honestly if he had to sit this week that's okay. It shouldn't make too much of a difference against a bad UConn team. If he had to sit against Maryland too, he'd be missed but I'm fairly confident Michigan can still win without him.
Going on the road to Iowa is definitely where this team would need him back.
That all said, if Edwards does have to sit then hopefully this means that Stokes can get some more quality reps.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:47 PM ^
It would be cool if he broke his receiving record every year against maryland.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:10 PM ^
Hope it's not serious and fully healed for the meat of the schedule.
September 12th, 2022 at 4:15 PM ^
The good news is, we can rest him this Saturday.
