Softball Sunday: U-M vs TBD @ 11:30 on ESPN+
Winner vs UCF scheduled for 2.
It's going to take a sweep of a triple header today for us to advance. The loss yesterday was costly.
They moved game 7 to Monday for a few sites (due to weather ) game 7 would be if a team needs to beat another team twice for the title
Mother Nature saved the day for the Lady Wolverines yesterday with the lightning delay in Orlando following the marathon 11 inning loss yesterday. At least they had the day to recover form the Orlando heat and humidity.
They'll need to get the bats going. Hitting has been putrid thus far. The infield play let them as well yesterday with errors in the extra innings that ultimately cost them the game.
It's do or die time so win the elimination game and move on-Go Blue.
I would hardly say Mother Nature “saved the day.” As we now have to win three games back to back to back in order to advance because we didn’t get the second game in last night
Very true: but after a 4+ hour game on Saturday, another game later that day would have been grueling. We'll see how today goes. No easy task for sure.
A 4+ hour game followed by watching another game before playing your own second game is still a MUCH better scenario than playing three games consecutively with no other games being played in between.
I don’t get how you can say two games with a multi-hour break in between is more grueling than three consecutive games
Madness to force a triple header with no breaks. Just push the damn thing to tomorrow.
Possible quadruple header for SDSU if they beat Villlanova and UM.
In 90 degree heat. Gatorade city.
Also SDSU nova is in extra innings so one of those teams is gonna be worn out.
SDSU won in 9, our game starts at 12:30.
Storako is gonna have to be on her game today. Can’t count in her offense for more than 1-2 runs.
Being central Florida, there's a pretty good chance of thunderstorms on any given day in May disrupting outdoor events.
Today is no exception: I just looked at two weather apps; one says a 70% chance of t-storms beginning between 5 and 6 pm thru sundown. The other says a 60% threat of storms begins around 4 pm until darkness.
A run in the first, and BOOM 💥! a 3-run HR by Kristina Burkhardt in the 2nd, and we've got a 4-0 lead after 2.
Still 4-0 after 3.
It's only 90° with a dewpoint of 72° in Orlando right now.
If only we can continue scoring and invoke the mercy rule, getting out of the heat an inning or two early would be definitely advantageous on a long hot day.
There is a mix of sun and clouds over there and no billowing clouds for storms brewing. The wind is SE at near 15 mph . The heat index is down a notch from yesterday but remains high.
In other Big Ten news, Wisconsin became the third Big Ten team to reach the final 32 with a come-from-behind win over Georgia Tech this morning. They have the same potential triple-header treatment as Michigan, given Florida weather.
They are playing host #14 Florida now. It's 7-0 in the top of the first with one out. Florida has six infield hits in the inning already.
No triple header today as game 7 has been moved to tomorrow.
The NCAA Division I Softball Committee has made a change to the schedule of games for the 2022 NCAA Division I Softball Championship regionals in Gainesville and Orlando where an if necessary Game 7 would be played on Monday.#RoadToWCWS pic.twitter.com/yFOIiyxFjf

good!
Update???
One down two to go. 4-1. Does Storako just keep throwing???
Storako: 90 pitches, 12 strikeouts, 2 hits. She'll be available in the next game. Will she start again?
Editing: Update is 4-1 win for Michigan. South Dakota State's #3 hitter led off the seventh with a home run, but they couldn't do anything else.
She is warmed up and throwing well. It's not unusual for FP pitchers to throw up to three games in a day. I would come right back with her.
VICTORS VALIANT!
4-1 final score
I assume that this means that Michigan is the winner of the loser’s bracket and now must beat UCF in 2 straight to win the regional?
That’s how I read it. Thanks for all the updates!!
Down 2-0 top of first heres a live "game tracjker)

2 bases loaded walks ,after Michigan shouldve been out of the inning with 0 runs --routine grounder to second and the fielder tried to get a force at second ,instead of just throwing to 1st base for the easier play , Michigan defefence killed em this weekend
Walking in three runs in the first is...not ideal.
Hard to have much hope when they keep shooting themselves in the feet. Three bases-loaded walks, iffy infield defense again. Hutch must be having kittens, and she's a dog person.
And this is why you stay with your ace in these situations. They can do it but they've got their work cut out for themselves.
Top of the Second after a dubious call to end the inning.
Still very early obviously.
Graduate student Meghan Beaubien’s unfortunate final season for Michigan continues. UCF went up 2-0 in the first after Beaubien allowed two hits and two walks before being replaced by Annabelle Widra who then walked in the third UCF run.
Somewhat easy to forget that Beaubien was the Big Ten Pitcher of the Year, Freshman of the Year and a First Team All-American in 2018 and First Team All-Big Ten in 2018, 2019 and 2021.
Our bats are up after a relatively clean second inning.
Time to let the bats sing.
Got to have belief but need to get some momentum. Have to survive this extremely rocky start but if Michigan wins somehow this first game they have will have all the momentum. A bit back on the heels at the moment though.
Heading to the bottom of the third 5-0 UCF.
Need to try to get something going this inning to inject some confidence.
Ugly game. Walked in three and gave them another on a hbp.
Got two back in the bottom of the third but could have knocked in two more with some heroics. They needed some momentum now they have it now the question is can they get a quick top of the fourth and go back to work in the bottom of the fourth.
Clean inning with a couple of flyouts. Need to continue the momentum and put some game pressure stringing together some hits in the bottom of the fourth.
5-2 UCF heading to the bottom of the fourth.
Heading to the bottom of the fifth having ceded no ground still 5-2 UCF. Need to get the bats going but more importantly be patient their pitcher is not throwing strikes.
Big moment here. Need to get more runs.
5-3 UCF but Michigan threatening. Runners on first and third one out.
Those last two at bats were less than ideal. Almost out of time now.
Unfortunately Michigan couldn’t capitalize on a promising inning though they did get one run so they made up some ground. Almost forced UCF to bring in their pitcher from yesterday who went 181 pitches or whatever. Bottom line if Storoko can continue to be effective and if the interior defense keeps up the strong showing over the last few innings the team just needs three runs over two hopefully.
Wolverines on the ropes. Still top of the sixth but UCF tacks on two runs. 7-3 UCF and only one out. Storoko has got to be tired.
She's walked three batters this inning. Probably gassed.
Beaubien back in the circle, bases loaded, one out, 8-3. Poor Storako just couldn't find the plate this inning. She'll leave the game having reached exactly 300 strikeouts on the season.
Michigan ceded some ground that inning though they have a chance to do something in the bottom of the sixth hopefully. Beaubien does get some redemption by keeping the Wolverines in the game after a Herculean effort by Storoko but she got tired. Now the bats have to come alive. Their pitcher does not have good control and not sure how with it the pitcher from yesterday will be. Either way the Wolverines have an opportunity and that’s all you can ask for.
8-3 UCF bottom of the sixth
Wolverines force the pitching change to their pitcher who went over 180 pitches yesterday. Still have firm control but the wolverines have runners on first and second with only one out.
Need to get through the top of the seventh and even should we do that we’ll need 5 to tie and 6 to win. They’re fighting in tough conditions.
Far too many missed opportunities in the game. Left another pair on base. One more inning to go down 8-3.
Ladies are just a team this year....not great but not bad. Pretty much showing it all today.
