The National Media Haters of Harbaugh & Michigan
Everyone had doubts about the season back in the summer and everyone was frustrated with Coach Harbaugh's road record vs other top big ten teams. Those were legit critiques.
But this post is dedicated to the irrational, naked hatred of sports media "personalities" and "analysts" who, even post-ohio state, took potshots at Michigan and coach Harbaugh. This BIG TEN TITLE is for you...
...Michael Wilbon (PTI). "Michigan still hasn't won anything yet, and I fully expect Iowa to beat them."
...Keyshawn Johnson. "The game isn't in the big house in the snow, and so I'm picking Iowa."
...Bob Stoops. Picking Iowa in the pregame. Come on Bob! Wouldn't have anything to do with your "interim" Oklahoma gig would it?
And there are probably several more from the prior week. Any others come to mind?
Enjoy this W, media haters. On to the next!

Dedicate this to the fair weather fans as well please. They too agreed with the media haters.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:59 AM ^
And some were out in full force in the game thread yesterday. I had to get off MGoBlog during the 2nd quarter. This place knows how to eat its young sometimes.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:02 AM ^
are you kidding?
last night was the LEAST hate-filled thread of the season.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:33 AM ^
That's not saying much, jabberwock. A lot of people reverted right back to the "Cade is terrible" trope as soon as he made a few behind-the-receiver throws. There are a lot of Chicken Littles in this fan base.
December 5th, 2021 at 2:22 PM ^
This board is pretty trash. It is the new MLIVE. Free doesn't mean better.
December 5th, 2021 at 6:07 PM ^
Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between the trolls and the “fans” who are just insufferable human beings.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:37 AM ^
Still happening after the game. Joey Galloway had Michigan dropping to 3 in CFP.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:39 AM ^
Yeah, I saw that. WTF. That makes zero sense.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:49 AM ^
Makes a ton of sense he went to Ohio state…. Hater
December 5th, 2021 at 10:48 AM ^
Clown move. Galloway was a great player and I respect that. He sucks as a football reporter. Do your easy job properly instead of hate bro.
Harbaugh was AFC player of the year in 1995 and Coached a team into the Super Bowl. He has forgotten more about football than 90 % of the national football media will ever know.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:04 AM ^
He minored in counting at OSU and was showing off his skills by going to 3. If he had majored in counting, he'd have put us at 10.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:11 AM ^
That's ridiculous even for him.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
That was ridiculous! How do you beat someone 42-3 and drop a spot in the ranking. Galloway is useless on that set sometimes.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:23 AM ^
Lol Galloway. Good in his time at OSU…god awful reporter at ESPN. Probably one of the worst and they have some doozys over there.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:38 AM ^
Haters gonna hate. JH is the first and only person with head coaching appearances in the playoffs of NFL and college football.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:02 AM ^
I'd be interested to know how many people have won the Big Ten as a player and head coach.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:04 AM ^
@Punter - think they covered this on the broadcast last night, think he’s the fifth(?) and the first since 1936 or something!
please fact check me, I was too busy being happy to pay too much attention
December 5th, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
In the stadium last night I think they said there have been 3; but not sure if that was a big ten metric or a generic conference perspective.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:29 AM ^
Bret Bielema was on Hayden Fry's co-champion 1990 Iowa squad and also won the B1G championship before the East/West re-alignment. 1990 was a four-way tie, though. Gary Moeller was on Woody Hayes' 1961 winning squad and won 3 titles from 1990-92. I won't go back further than that but you can see it's probably somewhat more common.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:13 PM ^
Bump Elliot. Won Big 10 and National Championship in '47 as one of the Mad Magicians. Won the Big 10 as head coach in '64.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:26 PM ^
And Bennie Ooosterbaan, who won Big 10 titles as a player for Yost in '25 and '26, and as head coach three consecutive years 48 through 50, and the National Championship in '49.
So, that's three just at Michigan (titles as player and coach at the same school) plus Moeller split between OSU as player, UM as coach, makes 4 UM coaches, unless I've missed others.
December 5th, 2021 at 12:44 PM ^
I missed Kipke, who won titles as a player under Yost, and four straight as head coach. So four all-Wolverine player/coaches, plus Moeller
December 5th, 2021 at 12:16 PM ^
A better question would be: who’s done it as Head Coach AND a contributing, starter type of player (Jimmy was the starting QB and a good one) versus someone who was simply on the team.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:38 AM ^
Bob Stoops picked us against OSU... I'll cut him some slack
December 5th, 2021 at 10:43 AM ^
I think they make it a point to give some respect to the underdog in the pre-game. It seems that there is often at least one that picks the underdog. Sometimes it is mostly a gesture. Sometimes it is a real belief.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:48 AM ^
And Stoops played for Iowa, no different there than Woodson picking UM.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:05 AM ^
I give Stoops a pass. They were clearly joking around with Charles and Stoops picked his alma mater, saying something like “I have no good reasons to pick Iowa”. He is no Michigan hater like so many others.
December 5th, 2021 at 6:52 PM ^
I'm fine with Stoops but Wilbon and KJ can go fuck themselves.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:15 AM ^
He also played at Iowa
December 5th, 2021 at 10:38 AM ^
Fuck those guys. It’s nice to have a job where you can be wrong a majority of the time and not get fired
December 5th, 2021 at 10:40 AM ^
Weather forecasters say hi.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:49 AM ^
Weather forcasting models are not wrong most of the time. When it's a 75% of rain, over time, it rains on pretty much exactly 75% of the days. There is a staggering amount of time, effort, and money put into climate/weather modeling. Given it’s importance to agriculture, infrastructure, utilities, etc., these models are very strongly validated.

Michael Wilbon truly is a hater. I know this has been touched on before but he's not even an interesting hater with some hawt take or useful insights. It's just all hate for Harbaugh all the time. We beat Ohio state and touch off a crazy celebration in the snow and his response on PTI is "they haven't won anything".
December 5th, 2021 at 10:48 AM ^
That's because Wilbon is a whiny ass Northwestern grad. They suck almost every year in basketball and football and I'm sure it eats away at his sad little ego.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:54 AM ^
I seldom pay any attention to the ranting, egotistical, blow-hards on ESPN. They are always immensely impressed with themselves and their main goal is to convince you to be impressed too. I had to google Wilbon to see who he is.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:40 AM ^
That’s either disingenuous or ignorance. Wilbon is not a no-name. He and Kornheiser have been doing PTI for 20 years. You don’t have to like him, but he’s not a nobody.
December 5th, 2021 at 1:56 PM ^
Your idea that if I say I didn’t know who Wilbon is I am either lying or ignorant says more about you than me. I can assure you that I did have to google his name. I watched ESPN a bit early in its history but don’t remember much other than I got tired of the talking heads (or commentators or whatever they are called) rather quickly. I watch ESPN when there are games being broadcast or sometimes the game day show or wrap-ups of the day’s activities. ESPN is usually on in the locker room and when I’m changing and it might get my attention if there are highlight plays or something of that nature. But if those obnoxious, self-important, ranting, attention seekers are performing I ignore them.
December 5th, 2021 at 5:57 PM ^
Hahaha I read these comments after I also had to google him myself. I don't watch ESPN. I guess that makes me ignorant XD
December 5th, 2021 at 7:03 PM ^
Pardon the Interruption is aural clickbait.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:38 AM ^
Hey, let’s just appreciate the win, the season and the team (and the fact that I’m speculatively buying tickets for the Orange Bowl as we speak), rather than focus on the haterz…
they hates us cuz they ain’ts us
December 5th, 2021 at 10:52 AM ^
Yeah…I’m honestly too happy right now to care what the haters think.
December 5th, 2021 at 11:27 AM ^
I admire that. No matter how hard I try, I cannot get rid of my desire for vengeance and score-settling.
I simply take too much pleasure in the suffering of my enemies, both real and imagined.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:39 AM ^
I’m not looking this up, but didn’t Bob go to Iowa? Could just be some of that coming through.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:42 AM ^
Yes, was a DB there and started his coaching career there.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:46 AM ^
Yeah, he was a pretty solid player there. You could also tell from his interaction with Woodson that Stoops likely thought Michigan was going to win but awkwardly picked Iowa in a "I couldn't possibly pick against them" sort of way. If you didn't know he was a player with roots at Iowa it would have seemed a bit odd, but that interaction makes a lot more sense if you knew he went to Iowa.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:52 AM ^
All the Stoops played for Iowa, which makes Iowas desperate ploys to throw unlimited money at Ferentz every time someone else gets a raise even more strange. Nobody's trying to poach Kirk, and you have the entire Stoops family who each would likely say yes to the job, were it offered to them.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:40 AM ^
Bob Stoops started his coaching career at Iowa so that’s why he picked them. He actually was the only one to pick Michigan last week against OSU. (Imagine if Iowa hired Stoops instead of Ferentz lol)
December 5th, 2021 at 10:46 AM ^
Bob stoops was a pretty solid player at Iowa before his coaching career.
December 5th, 2021 at 10:40 AM ^
Love this post. Michigan has shut a lot of people up. The Team, Harbaugh, and staff have done a hell of a job this year. Jobs not finished!
December 5th, 2021 at 10:44 AM ^
stoops coached at iowa after playing there so doubtful he picks otherwise.
many had legit criticisms of harbaugh which is different than hating - hes now won a few big games though so naturally the math has changed
