Sunday snowflakes: A terrific week of sports for the maize & blue
It always feels like sports fandom (and perhaps especially Michigan fandom) is filled with negativity and disappointment and waiting for the other shoe to drop. In a big week for Michigan sports, it really couldn't have gone much better:
- #6 basketball handled a likely good UB team and dealt with Prairie View without much issue
- #3 field hockey rallied back from being down 2-0 to Miami (OH) and advanced to the elite 8 (which I think is today)
- #2 hockey dismantled Penn State 5-1 and 6-2 and are 1st in the Big Ten. #1 St Cloud split this weekend so we may retake #1 this week
- and of course #6 football pulled out a gutsy win over Penn State on the road. Maybe Harbaugh's best road win in his tenure? This program over the last 15 years isn't winning many hostile road games like that and now we got 3 of them in one year
It's rare all of Michigan's big sports are doing so well all at once, so take a deep breath this Sunday and enjoy a fantastic week of M sports. It's great to be a Michigan Wolverine

Where are all the people that wanted Tom Allen, Sark, Mullen, Campbell for UMs head coach??? Where are you?

Oh, don’t worry, they’ll show up in two weeks after Michigan’s first punt.

I don't think it will take that long.

Here right now. At this point, certainly eating my crow. I wanted Michigan pre season to be 10-1 going into OSU, and I think we will be meeting that expectation.
I still think Matt Campbell will be a good coach somewhere, but certainly would not be a sure thing at other programs. Honestly, seeing UT, Florida, and Nebraska being in the situation they are in helps bring perspective.

It's kind of nice seeing the big Florida teams flail after them being perennially good for four decades.

UT is both Texas and Tennessee. USC can be added to that list.

Just because I think JH should have been fired last year doesn't mean I wanted any of those coaches. Michigan has been better than most thought this season, and that's a good thing.

I’m here and happy with the season.
Also the new guy to drool over for this off season is dave aranda

Why would anyone want Sark?

I'd also like to give a shout out to the collapse feature on the message boards. It's doing a lot of work overnight and into this morning.

Also, it should be noted that Michigan placed 6 swimmers on the list of 100 greatest college swimmers this last week. Men’s swimming probably has more Olympic medals than any other sport on campus.
Note: Research on claim may be incomplete.

Just finished the research. Men’s and Women’s swimming account for 100 of the 188 Michigan Olympic medals. This total does include Michael Phelps, who was (briefly) a student, but never swan for the team. If you take out his 27 medals, it’s still 73 of 158 total medals. We good at aquatics.

Gotta count Phelps after the debacle where the announcer thought the block M tattoo he has was for University of Maryland

Don’t forget #9 women’s soccer advanced to the second round of the NCAA tourney with a 3-0 win over Bowling Green and will host the winner of Harvard-Wake Forest next weekend.

I can't remember a week/end when Michigan had 2 hockey wins, 2 basketball wins and a football win combined with all the other sports wins.
Best university in the world.
Go Blue.
