credit to nebraska, far better than their record, but they got awfully lucky on a bunch of janky plays that would not be repeatable.
good for the D, go blue, survive and move on.
October 10th, 2021 at 9:20 AM ^
Not sure what "janky" plays you're referring too, but a couple of those TD plays they called were genius, not in any way "janky."
October 10th, 2021 at 9:26 AM ^
Yeah a few of those PA passes were straight up evil
October 10th, 2021 at 11:16 AM ^
The deflected pass completion after almost sacking Martinez comes to mind. Also the subsequent TD where they made a late substitution and we didn't get set.
October 10th, 2021 at 1:23 PM ^
Add in the illegal formation on the first Nebraska TD. (Harbaugh was right...)
October 10th, 2021 at 1:45 PM ^
Did Martinez hit every pass perfectly that needed to be perfect? Do you think he will hit them all again? I am willing to give Nebraska, Martinez, and Frost a ton of credit and Martinez has really matured but two of three biggest yardage plays occurred because someone totally dropped their assignment and then Martinez threw a near perfect pass which means that play was well executed but who knows how repeatable it is. On the other hand, Haskins and Corum got a first down by inches with repeatable effort.
Janky doesn't mean lucky as much as it means low-ish probability of success.

The Bad news: I ate a bag of coal before the game.
The Good news: I'm shitting diamonds! (and Michigan won)
Holy fuck that game was an all-time ass-clencher.
This D needs SO much work. Athletes, but sadly lacking in technique , particularly in the secondary.
October 9th, 2021 at 11:30 PM ^
there once was a man named bruno
who said diamonds are something i do know.
women's diamonds are fine
and sheep's diamonds, divine
but llama are numero uno!!
go blue!!

Asshole puckered tigher than a snare drum.

The team is going to have a fun night!!
Great strip and fumble recovery. Better that the announcer pointed out Scott’s teams keep having self inflicted errors
October 9th, 2021 at 11:29 PM ^
Tale of two halves... looked incredible in the first and horrible in the second but the forced fumble and recovery and last drive were huge!
October 10th, 2021 at 1:32 AM ^
Gonna give Nebraska some credit for the adjustments and Martinez making some unlikely (and likely unrepeatable plays). The defense didn't fold though and played through the adversity.
That's a good thing.

Option football bad
October 9th, 2021 at 11:31 PM ^
We knew it wouldn't be perfect, and it wasn't. Nebraska has a good offense.
But there was no singular exploitable weakness. Nebraska had to work, hard, to get what they got. And Michigan made huge plays at key moments. Hawkins with the play of his life. Dax with the pick.
The defense did enough. This year, that's good.
October 10th, 2021 at 1:09 PM ^
I'd say that was the case under D'Antoni and that staff. They always had a few sneaky plays saved up for this game. From what I've seen there offense is pretty traditional. They look pretty good, too. The back gets a lot of attention, but the QB has also been very good and the receivers are really dangerous. Michigan will have to outscore them, which is very doable, and they have shown that they can play well in two of the most hostile environments in college football.
October 9th, 2021 at 11:33 PM ^
The defense mostly played reasonably well, but there were a few horrific coverage busts where we just got suckered. Looks to me like they mostly need to work on sticking to assignments.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:39 AM ^
You know who else runs janky ass shit like Nebraska? MSU. We need to be ready in three weeks for more of the same.
October 9th, 2021 at 11:33 PM ^
The defense was on its heels in the second half for sure...
I think that a good 25-33% was just Martinez making things happen out of nothing.
That said, there were clearly some issues on the two long TD passes that need to be fixed. They did fix the toss play a little later in the half.
Snowflakes? Those last two defensive stands were huge...so they deserve credit for that.
Lots of teaching moments in the film room this week...great time for a bye week though. Get the win, but had to fight tooth and nail for it

Don't think it was as bad as you present it. Nebraska made some great calls at right time (with a little luck mixed in) - almost bordering on gimmick plays, because they had to.
This D is very, very good. Hutchison is too strong for any opposing OL, and our guys in the middle didn't give an inch.
And god love Hawkins for making the play of the game/season!
Proud of our boys! Go Blue!!!
October 9th, 2021 at 11:34 PM ^
Corners (Gray and Green) are just not very good. Turner as well. The contrast between how Nebraska’s CBs cover and play the ball and how Michigan players do (more like don’t) is stark.

They're not great or anything, but they're not disasters this season, not so far. A lot better than last year. Usually in the right spot (contrast with some young guys getting in the wrong place tonight).
Last year teams could just man them up and burn them over and over again. We haven't played elite receivers yet, but it wasn't elite receivers doing it last year, either. So there has been some growth.
And Dax covers like a glove. He dominated that last fourth down route. That's a biiig deal.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:27 AM ^
Huh? Nebraska's outside wr had like 80 yard and 5 catches combined. And one PI
And 25 was the fluke barrett tips the ball into Oliver's hands
October 10th, 2021 at 12:46 AM ^
Yea that was bull shit luck. And is Gemon green EVER gonna intercept or just paper hand these ? (Was it barrett or G Green? Thought it was Gemon who let ball slip thru to Oliver)
October 10th, 2021 at 12:53 AM ^
It was Green. Always trust your eyes, never the announcers. Although Blackledge did eventually correct himself.
October 10th, 2021 at 2:10 AM ^
The announcers read MGOBLOG
October 10th, 2021 at 8:33 AM ^
Then, they must have experienced firsthand overtaking ass.
October 10th, 2021 at 6:58 AM ^
Agree. This problem will come back to bite us this season unless they figure things out by some miracle in the next two weeks.
October 10th, 2021 at 11:25 AM ^
I don't understand why they're taking desperate, obvious PIs when they have safety help over the top? If you get beat, stay in trail position and trust your safety buddy to cover over the top.
October 10th, 2021 at 1:32 PM ^
Not disagreeing, but not an expert either.... with Green and Gray possibly gone next year as well, it seems like a pretty good opportunity for two 5-star Frosh corners next year if they early enroll as planned... (#CometoMDomani!!JoinWill!!)

They held firm when they needed to.it wasn’t pretty in the second half, but they did as much as they needed to against a very good offense.
I am scared to death for the OSU game and what their crop of NFL receivers can and possibly will do, but that is another problem for another day. MacDonald has time to prepare for that.
6-0, baby. Enjoy the next few weeks. Bye week upcoming, Northwestern at home, and then @MSU on Halloween weekend. So three weeks of honeymoons, and then shit gets really, REALLY real.

Good defenses don’t give up 22 points in a quarter after halftime to a .500 team.
October 10th, 2021 at 12:40 AM ^
Alabama must be a terrible team.
October 10th, 2021 at 9:32 AM ^
When did they do that? They’re not that great because they lost. It will all equal itself out when Michigan finally starts playing good QBs.
October 10th, 2021 at 11:45 AM ^
I sincerely hope somebody is paying you for these horrific takes, because it's depressing to think that an adult thinks this poorly of their own volition

I’ll be “that guy.”
Twice the last 3 games the defense has underwhelmed in the 2nd half.
But kudos to guys making plays late to force turnovers, Ojabo against Rutgers and Hawkins tonight.

They may have underwhelmed, but they made some big plays when the game was on the line. Most people didn't expected much with this defense with a new defensive coordinator and the players available
October 9th, 2021 at 11:40 PM ^
The defense did enough today. We'll see if it continues to do enough in the future. For now, I'm going to enjoy a road victory at night against a decent football team.
October 9th, 2021 at 11:42 PM ^
Great first half. Shitty second half until the very end when they found themselves just in time.
October 9th, 2021 at 11:44 PM ^
Dax, great play, don't ever fucking do that again.
October 9th, 2021 at 11:45 PM ^
That stop on 4th and goal from the 2 on Nebraska's first drive was huge. Different game if we don't get that and it was a fantastic play from the D.
October 9th, 2021 at 11:45 PM ^
They played hard and made some big plays. Made the biggest play at the end that set up the win.
