CJ Stroud is apparently "injured" and will only play in an "emergency capacity" on Saturday, per Ryan Day
https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/2021/09/125226/cj-st…
“Going into this game, we’ve asked C.J. to probably take these last couple of days off and rest that shoulder,” Day said Thursday on his radio show. “Kyle and Jack have done a good job, and so the plan right now is to probably, we’ll see how today goes, but probably use C.J. in somewhat of an emergency capacity on Saturday and play some of those other guys.”
So is he injured or is he "injured"?
September 23rd, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
Hopefully Mccord and Jack Miller suck worse than Stroud.
September 23rd, 2021 at 12:53 PM ^
Well that would just run counter to our luck so...
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:14 PM ^
Given the last two decades, Stroud's injury benching will somehow shore up the defense.
September 23rd, 2021 at 5:42 PM ^
But one of them is obviously this year's Cardale Jones
September 23rd, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
Ryan Day is either an elite coach playing chess or on his way to flaming out.

Anyone ever see Larry Coker and Clay Helton in the same room? Just wonderin'
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:05 PM ^
you spelled John Cooper wrong.
we really need him to be john cooper 2.0. win every game THE game....
September 23rd, 2021 at 1:17 PM ^
You gotta think his first 2 years were with Meyers kids. Sure their recruiting has kept up but what about coaching the kids and managing them and keeping the same culture and attitude?
Harbaughs first 2 years were pretty good but they weren’t his kids.
September 23rd, 2021 at 1:28 PM ^
Plus ol’ Urbz isn’t on campus anymore. That had to account for part of it since he was still available to help the team, and we know he did so.
September 23rd, 2021 at 1:46 PM ^
Prof. Meyers' presence is sorely missed in the "Teaching Leadership Fundamentals" classroom
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:57 PM ^
I don’t think people realize how fragile osus offense would have been in 2019 without fields transferring
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:22 PM ^
their talent level hasn't gone down so it shouldn't matter.
they have always (like bama) brought in exttemely talented classes and have made it work.
maybe their chemistry isn't working like it used to, maybe the kids they have are a bit more selfish and are working more on their social media accounts and aren't practicing as hard.
who knows but I hope they don't get it figured out and the boys can finally get that monkey off their backs.
September 23rd, 2021 at 4:08 PM ^
The QB still has to perform well, as does the talent. Stroud has been slightly above average, and he’s not as accurate as Fields nor as dynamic a runner as the last five OSU QBs. Their offensive and defensive lines have not yet jelled—so we can hope they do not.
I watch their games and their talent superiority was the only way they beat Tulsa. Big Ten should give them a few more challenges, including UM.
September 23rd, 2021 at 7:32 PM ^
Actually It has. At least defensively. Their highest rated defensive recruits have not performed well, with the highest being Zack Harrison. They have also recruited a strange amount of safeties and LB's in the last 2 classes. They haven't recruited any elite projects on the back end. The kid they got from Muskegon is their nickle db, and he wasn't rated that high.
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:49 PM ^
I know what happened to OSU . . . the whole team slept with a hooker a couple months back and everyone got really pissed about it once it leaked to the press. The locker room collapsed, everyone lost trust in each other, and the scars never healed properly.
September 23rd, 2021 at 11:32 PM ^
Jokes on you, our (Malik) Hooker is an All American and first round pick hahaha. On a serious note though, the locker room and chemistry seems off this year.
September 24th, 2021 at 9:35 AM ^
How are the rest of the #OSUAnon taking these changes?
I can't stomach reading all the one sentence commentary on 11W.
September 24th, 2021 at 5:43 PM ^
95% are in favor one way or another. The others want him to play through it since he was feeling well enough to play the first three games.
September 23rd, 2021 at 1:50 PM ^
Just hoping he doesn't get fired until after Urban has a new job...
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:44 PM ^
This is why I want Meyer to succeed at Jacksonville. Well, like Jimmy Johnson did at the Dolphins--good enough to get in the playoffs but not good enough to be a serious Super Bowl threat.
That keeps him out of college football until he retires. I hope.
(Although I wouldn't mind seeing a return at Ohio State like John Robinson had. Robinson had some great years at USC in the late seventies and early eighties (shared a title with Alabama and came within a tie to Stanford of doing it again), was a decent coach in the NFL in the eighties and early nineties and returned to USC in 1993. The second time around, though, he never did better than 9-2-1 and went 0-for-UCLA.)

O-for-UCLA — Ha!
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:16 PM ^
Oh no. You've struck me with a terror I wasn't feeling before.
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:01 PM ^
he's troughing at the wrong time. It needs to be later in the season.
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:17 PM ^
i'm glad i'm not the only person that's been wondering that, literally since the day he was hired.
as of this moment, it's not crazy to wonder.
September 23rd, 2021 at 5:51 PM ^
They play Akron. Ryan Day could start a walk on.
OSU is favored by 50 points
Akron in 128 out of 130 in F+ rankings and 129/130 in FEI.
Akron, UMass and UConn (129 and 130) are setting records for the worse football teams in the 140 year history of college football.
September 23rd, 2021 at 12:53 PM ^
It's September so it's still Spring for Michigan football. Winter is right on schedule for November.
I refuse to become optimistic. And on a human level, hope the kid heals up well.
September 23rd, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
Good game to rest if he is dinged up. OSU could win this week with probably any one of a dozen or so guys who post on this blog playing QB.
September 23rd, 2021 at 1:40 PM ^
I'm 51 and had a knee replacement this year. I think I'm one of the guys you're referring to.
September 23rd, 2021 at 4:04 PM ^
I'm in orthopedics. What type of knee did you get (i.e. Stryker, Smith/Nephew, etc.)? Don't worry, its not a HIPPA violation if you tell me. hehe
September 23rd, 2021 at 4:12 PM ^
Stroker? Smith & Wesson? You ortho guys have some weird product names.
September 23rd, 2021 at 6:01 PM ^
Steel with a plastic spacer. Got it done through OPA in Seattle. Nobody told me a name and I would've forgotten it anyway. I just care that I can walk again.
September 23rd, 2021 at 7:49 PM ^
I'll be applying to ortho residency this year. Wish me luck!
September 23rd, 2021 at 7:58 PM ^
Good luck man. About the time you're trained I'll be retiring so a replacement will be needed!
September 23rd, 2021 at 12:56 PM ^
nope. nope. nope. nope. nope.

Whatever the news - to hell w the Suckeyes!!!
September 23rd, 2021 at 12:59 PM ^
It's very clear he's being benched. The OSU fanbase has been calling for him to be benched for weeks despite him not really being the biggest issue. If he was actually injured, they would just say he's out this week with a shoulder injury and is week to week. The fact that he's injured, but also available for emergencies makes me doubt his "injury"
September 23rd, 2021 at 1:01 PM ^
Then he needs to just bench him and say it. This non-committal attitude doesn't let anyone know where they actually stand and is usually worse in the long run.
September 23rd, 2021 at 1:09 PM ^
k. if you say so. but when is it EVER worse for them. it isnt. they beat us with their 1st 2nd and 3rd string QBs. haskins comes in.. boom. TD. troy smith hurt? f it. NEXT. Cardale f'ing jones.
Until i see cause and effect i refuse to believe that anything they do isnt 1000% calculated, purposeful and going to work out brilliantly. Maybe muddying the waters paves the way for Ewers to start on Day 1 and Stroud transfers. Maybe this lets them try out the other QBs to see if they look less "deer in headlights" than stroud.
Either way.......................................................................................... can we please F'ING WIN? With 2 decades of anger, angst, depression, ..i dont care who they have. Can we let it all out and just go apeshit on them?
September 23rd, 2021 at 2:37 PM ^
I agree, and Day is pulling the same shit with Coombs as well where he's been moved to the booth and may or may not still be coordinator and may or may not still have play calling duties
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:42 PM ^
Agreed! IMO this move corresponds exactly with how Day dealt with Combs. He clearly demoted him, but didn't have the guts to own it (let alone call it a demotion) and take away his DC title and give it to the guy who's now calling the D.
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:56 PM ^
I noticed Stroud doing the arms circles w left arm while clutching his chest late in the Minnesota game. Was doing it against Oregon as well and I figured that's his non throwing shoulder so guess he can play through it. It also gave me hope that the backup isn't even close if they're letting him play hurt this early in the year. He's good but if hes not All American good, gives us a chance to keep them under 50.
September 23rd, 2021 at 3:45 PM ^
That's true, and good for Michigan.
September 23rd, 2021 at 1:10 PM ^
Not so fast. Living here in Northern Ohio and being a huge Browns fan means I get the twitter feeds of a LOT of OSU reporters. And the overwhelming consensus among those guys right now is "see, I TOLD you he was injured" as many of them are posting their Twitter receipts on the subject.
Almost all of the OSU beat guys think he really is hurt and has been since about midway in the Oregon game but that he's been trying to play through it (maybe because he's looking at two 5 star QBs on the bench)? They point to his ball sailing on him a lot in the 2nd half of Oregon and the entire Tulsa game as evidence.
