Excellent work, that was an amazing show!

I've seen many great halftime shows at the Big House, but this one probably beat them all. Spectacular is the best word that comes to mind. Being there was an experience not to be forgotten. A big thank you to all who helped put that together!

Incredible, thanks for posting!

Well done - nice to have the technology available these days to add to the visual effects on field.
Feel like watching the Olympics again now.

Unless I blinked and missed it none of this was shown during the broadcast last night. In fact, I can't remember the last time a halftime show was actually shown on tv. They've just reverted to commercials and in-studio banter.

I haven't really looked into it, but my wife said she read that if you get the YouTube TV 4K package, you have the option to watch the college halftime shows. I may do it just for that.

I am usually not a half time guy but last night was simply amazing! I was disappointed when it was over...

Well it looked great on the scoreboard. The M band has an aversion to playing to anything but the home sideline. From the visitors sideline you couldn’t see any of the lights and the sound is always a bit muted.

Bands are unidirectional. You can't change physics. The MMB can only effectively play to one sideline at a time. By default it has to be the home sideline.
The athletic department could dome the place so everyone could hear better, like in the old Silverdome. But I seriously doubt anyone really wants that.

I just wish I had the forethought to walk over to the west side to watch/hear it. With event garb and a headset you can basically stand in any portal for ten minutes without being told to keep the walkway clear. Excellent show JWG!

This has to be one of the coolest halftime shows I've seen! Awesome job MMB!

There is No better Marching Band In America...PERIOD

JWG - thanks so much for posting. It is an amazing show by the Marching Band. I did not make it to the game, and enjoyed watching it this morning.

Yeah, same here. My nephew (freshman) texted the family group chat about how awesome the show was, so I’m glad I got to see it.

I love it! Well done, MMB!!!

It was one of the best, if not THE BEST, band performances I have ever seen in my 52 years as a season ticket holder. Magnificent.

Epic. Truly a remakable performance, a shame that it wasn't featured in full on the broadcast. I guess that's a perk that comes with going to the game.
I'd also like to find a clip of the Detroit Youth Choir's performance of God Bless America, at least the part that was on the broadcast.
September 12th, 2021 at 10:58 AM ^
Yes! I’d like to see the full God Bless America from pregame. And the bagpiper playing Amazing Grace. I hope those can get released on YouTube as well.

Stunning performance and you need to watch this on a larger screen than your phone!

Here is another version that I think is a bit easier to view....

Unless it's the Super Bowl or one of the occasional drumline shows for nationally televised football games between two of the historically black colleges and universities, TV networks don't show the stadium halftime show. This one from the Michigan Marching Band deserves to be seen. Make it go viral on social media.

Well done!
If you don't mind me asking, did the band do anything special to prepare for a show that was largely in the dark? Like, practice at night or in a hall with the lights out? I would have to imagine that decreased visibility woulda been an additional factor, which makes this show all the more impressive!

It was a late Friday night in the stadium…
We extended some rehearsals through dusk to coordinate the tech aspects too.
September 13th, 2021 at 1:17 AM ^
I think JWG is being humble here...
From what I've heard there were some significantly extended rehearsals this week. That's in addition to the 1.5 hours (minimum) they all put in Monday through Friday (it is a class so they do get credit). To be ready for those 1.5 hours, there is also time they spend memorizing music, etc.
Add in the fact that this year there are 4 home games in 4 weeks to start the season -- each with a totally different show. Furthermore, you have to realize that at the beginning of the year, esentially 50% of the band had never done a live performance as part of the MMB (because all the sophomores this year missed all last year due to COVID).
Mad respect to the students, student leaders, staff, and directors who are all making this happen.

Excuse me tOSU and Stanford but *this* is the best damn band in the land!
