Update on our dog, Blue
So, things are moving quickly for Blue. The only orthopedic specialist in Northern Ohio who does hip replacements happened to have an available spot open to do her surgery today. He is on vacation for the next nine days thereafter, so things really fell into place. Thanks to many of your generous donations, we were able to post the initial deposit for the surgery to go forward, though we will still owe the remaining balance tomorrow before she can come home.
Blue just got out of surgery and is doing great. She is in recovery right now, but they will update us later today once she has regained consciousness. We are praying for her fast recovery but are told it will be an eight-week process at least. I will continue to provide updates as things progress.
Those of you who missed my original post with Blue's backstory can find it here.
If you would like to still donate or donate again, see the link below or you can Venmo me directly @John-Derry-2
Thank you for your well wishes and support! You are greatly appreciated and the reason why the MGoBlog community is so special.
Sorry, I left of the OT, and it will not let me edit.
Always glad to hear furry babies doing well
So glad to hear that your fur baby is recovering well after surgery. Sending lots of positive energy (and a donation!) your way that will hopefully help Blue recover in the coming weeks.
BTW, Blue is an absolutely beautiful dog!!
Much appreciated... thanks!
You're my girl, Blue!
Awesome news. Thanks for the update!
happiness is always welcome news!
Great news!
Yay! Thanks for the update
Hang on a second, did you say they will hold your dog as collateral on an outstanding balance for the surgery?
"You can have the dog back, but we are keeping the hip until payment has been received."
Probably states balance is due when you pick the dog, but there is no way they'd be legally allowed to keep it if they didn't pay.
We got our first dog when he was taken from a young couple by a vet who did surgery after he was hit by a van. It was the second time they couple took a dog who had been hit to them. The girl was 17 and pregnant and The vet for them to turn the dog over to find a new home. We got him free. Then paid 3.5k to have his ccl repaired a few years later.
The Vet did surgery after getting hit by a van? That’s dedication.
Yeah you’d think that they would at least negotiate a payment plan similar to human healthcare providers
Surely there is someone at McKinley who has thought "Damn, if only we had this healthcare system during the time of indentured servitude"
Exactly what I took from that update, lol. Does the dog go to a sheriff's auction or something if they don't pay?! Crazy.
They did not use language to suggest that they would keep her as collateral, just that the balance is due upon picking up our pooch. We have Care Credit, which could have allowed us to pay the balance over twenty-four months interest free. Unfortunately, our provider's contract with Care Credit only allows us to do so over six months before 14.9% interest rate would kick in.
Hopefully, we get enough help to keep the balance at a reasonable amount to pay off over such a short period of time.
I have not read through all of the comments, so apologies if already suggested. This agency helps folks with urgent pet medical care funds. https://www.bowwowbuddies.com
You can apply up to 30 days after the surgery. They offer grants up to $2,500.
Wishing you and Blue all the best.
Oh wow, that's great to know. Thanks so much for the info and well wishes!
That is absolutely fantastic news.
As I mentioned in my post yesterday, dogs are family, and you do anything you reasonably can for them.
good to hear. thanks for the venmo link, just sent a little something to help with the cost. Hope she recovers and gets back to running around.
Thanks so much!
Glad to hear Blue is doing well. If you have an Instagram account for Blue I’d be happy to try and spread the word to donate. My handle is Red Dog Collars. Go Blue!!
MGo Pet Owners I have started a Custom Leather Dog Collar Company called Red Dog Collars. I Have a Red Doberman which is where the name comes from. It will be a cold day in hell before I make a red and gray collar.
Thanks DB! My daughter is on Instagram and may be setting up such an account soon. I'll keep you posted... Good luck with the dog collar company. I'll keep you in mind for our next collar purchase.
Thank you. Appreciate that. Just did a Brass on Navy Leather that’s featured on the website. Reddogcollars.com. Will always do my best for Michigan fans. Hopefully your daughter does set one up. I’ve seen many dogs get help in the same way, can’t hurt to get more eyes on helping Blue. Have a great night.
Go Blue!
Blue!!
We did a hip replacement surgery on our guy Bo years ago, he lived until 12 1/2.
Unfortunately we had to put him down a month ago...worst day of my life.
Cancer sucks.
Good looking dog! So sorry for your loss. Cancer most definitely sucks!
