OT: Justin Fields falling down NFL draft boards?
Once a contender for overall #1, more mock drafts are appearing with Fields as 4th QB taken:

Ryan Day's comments seem timed to try to stop the bleeding:
He'd be a good fit for the Titans given his ability to hand the ball off good as fuck.
I hate saying anything good about OSU players or things that could be considered complimentary but... JF was pretty elite throwing the ball as well.
From NBC Sports: Let’s get right to it: Fields’ 83.18% adjusted accuracy is the best I have ever recorded since I started with the 2016 class. That’s only about six years of data, but it’s still an impressive feat given some of the QBs to come out during that period. For reference, Joe Burrow (78.43%), Dwayne Haskins (77.17%), Baker Mayfield (76.53%), and Kyler Murray (74.68%) made up the top four previously. Fields beating out three first-overall picks and another first-round pick ain’t too shabby.

Ohio State has been Alabama Lite for 15+ years... and somehow hasn't produced a single rosterable NFL QB.
Mac Jones going #3? Man, didn’t see that coming
Mac Jones looks awesome to me in games, but he's playing with all stars all around him. It's hard for me to take that out of the equation. So many Alabama QBs (minus Tua I think) look great but can't cut it in the NFL. Can one break that stereotype?
Aren't Fields and OSU battling the same stereotype? Of course, there is one noticeable difference between him and Jones.
So I was going to make a joke and say "Height?" and then did my research before posting, and to my surprise they are the same height. For some reason I thought Fields would check in closer to 6 foot or 6-1, an Jones 6-3 or 6-4. Both 6-3.
Ok, that's my new thing I learned for today, see you guys tomorrow!
Are you implying that since Fields is black he will not get the same chance as Jones? If so that is 100% BS.
Fields is black?
Nah man. Didn't you hear he left UGA because someone called him a gringo?
No, Jones wins the big games.
Just wow. Never an implication.

Lighten up Francis
Absolutely some of it is the racial component but I'd also say that OSU's recent NFL QBs have underwhelmed significantly, while Alabama QBs (and guys like Hurts who came from there) have at least looked reasonably competent. I'm not particularly high on either guy, though.
Any proof that "some of it is the racial component"?
I don't know what kind of proof you're looking for, but it's not hard to find a ton of evidence. Here's one article from the Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/monkey-cage/wp/2017/04/27/nfl-draft-profiles-are-full-of-racial-stereotypes-and-that-matters-for-when-quarterbacks-get-drafted/
You can't ignore the fact that there is one very noticable difference between the two guys, and that difference to apparent to even the average person:
Fields is a transfer QB. He didn't want to wait his turn and compete for the job.
Jones sat behind Tua and Hurts and waited his turn.
What other differences are there?
Who's Fields playing around?
Most boards have the QB's:
- Trevor Lawrence, Clemson. ...
- Zach Wilson, BYU. ...
- Justin Fields, Ohio State. ...
- Trey Lance, North Dakota State. ...
- Mac Jones, Alabama. ...
- Kyle Trask, Florida. ...
- Kellen Mond, Texas A&M. ...
- Jamie Newman, Wake Forest/Georgia.
I'd push Fields down past Trask or further. Another overrated OSU QB who will flame out in the NFL.
quite a few reports that San Fran is in love with Mac Jones at #3 overall. That'd put Fields at #4 at best..possibly #5 if Lance passes him.
Is SF just playing poker suggesting that they are taking Jones?
Is Mac Jones an upgrade over Jimmy G? I don't care if this means Chase or Devonta are available for the Lions.
Lions have some picks to burn. If the Lions were smart, they'd trade one of the #1s from LA to move up and get Jones. Goff is only going to be in Detroit for 2 years.
Lawrence to Jacksonville, Wilson to Jets, Jones to 49ers seems to be the recent buzz
Not sure why this was negged. Board looks consistent with what I’ve read and the knock on Fields is that he rarely had to (or did) look past his first read. Not whether he can/can’t but just hasn’t show that in film.
Falling down draft boards makes me think he went from 4 to 34. This could be about other guys playing really well. If he's even the 5th QB drafted, but still in the first, that's pretty impressive.
He's an OSU QB. They always beat UM and fail in the NFL.
this is NOT how i like to see "pride comes before the fall" playing out
Where is Troy Smith?
And Pryor
Barrett wasn't even drafted, so he definitely can't be called a bust.
This is it. Why would any NFL GM/Coach want to take an OSU qb so higher at this point. Zero track record of success.
great college QBs but data shows awful/non playable at next level.
I think he's got all the arm talent and athleticism to be successful, but when you actually watch him during games, I've never been impressed by his ability to make reads or make tight throws. Having a receiving corp of all high 4*s and 5*s I think definitely made it hard to truly know how good he is. Not to mention his games against Indiana and Northwestern are glaring holes on his recent resume. With that being said, Idk exactly why he's falling so much
NJVictor same could de said for Jones. Just because you’ve got great receivers around doesn’t mean the QB isn’t good. I would say Jones benefitted more than fields with a stacked roster. Mac Jones went to DSmith a ton on first reads. This happens every year before the draft. Btw the 49’ers are having an exclusive pro day with Fields as they couldn’t attend OSU’s pro day, what does that tell you?
strong comparison to Joe Burrow.... they both play QB.....
Agree. It feels weak. I suspect that Day had more to say but writer did a poor job selecting the material to publish.
Justin Fields makes it look so easy but then so did Haskins. I have no idea.
Haskins problem is between the ears - he's just immature. He has the physical tools to succeed in the NFL
He will suck in pros just like Haskins. I said Haskins would be garbage and this board went nuts and told me I was WRONG!
In fairness, though, did he ever miss a throw against Michigan? Whether his guy was painfully wide open or he was hitting a microscopic window, seemingly nothing hit the ground.
I'll gladly take him on the Lions if he's still there at 7.
Packers fan?
I'm an "Aaron Rodgers as next permanent Jeopardy host" fan.
Rodgers doesn't move my Jeopardy needle. I say they shake it up and give Norm Macdonald a shot.
I agree. He 's certainly not bad but I think the show can do better. What I really notice is Rodgers' pronunciation of non-English words/names; he's not in Trebek's class who was masterful at that.
I think he has some question marks, but his ceiling is still very high. His questions don’t overweigh the questions around Wilson and Lance IMO. I would be comfortable with my franchise taking any of the three. I do not understand the supposed San Fran infatuation with Jones. But it could also just be bluster.
While Wilson's level of competition isn't as good, I definitely see why he's risen to #2 on QB draft boards. He does have a lot of Mahomes to his game where he can make some pretty crazy throws from a variety of arm angles, can throw on the move, off his back foot, etc.
The way Haskins flopped doesn’t help. As others have said, OSU has 5 star athletes all over the field. They are more talented than every team they play until they get to the playoffs. It isn’t hard for him to find an open receiver. Much more difficult in the NFL with tight windows.
Who even knows anymore? Predicting the success of a QB in the draft isn't much easier than the roulette table.
