Can we not be in UCLA's bracket ever again, please?
So tired of losing heartbreakers to UCLA in the NCAA tourney. The only time Michigan has beaten them in the tourney, it took a put-back bucket in OT to beat the 8 (or was it 9?) seed Bruins in 1993. When we found out we were playing UCLA in the Elite Eight, I started having PTSD from losing to them in heartbreaking fashion in 1998. That damn school just has our number in the Tourney. Pisses me off.
Anyway, just needed to vent.

Snowflake thread?
UCLA is historically just a weird match-up for us.
We could have and should have won this game. In this game, our defense was absolutely ELITE. But as good as our defense was, our offense was just as bad.
We had every opportunity to beat them we just beat ourselves. Hell, terrible shooting aside, if we just shot the normal or average free throw % that this team is capable of, we would have won this. Michigan beat themselves more than UCLA did but credit where credit is due and Juzang played a great game for them.
This guy is a troll. Look at his posting history.
Dont go full Hank on him.
Oh please, we lost a game where we gave up 51 fucking points.
UCLA didn't beat us, we beat us!
Shitty shooting, bad decisions, missing FT's, questionable substitutional rotations, that's why we lost.
I feel like this is exactly what Alabama said too after the game.
All those missed opportunities in the last 19.8 sec lost us the game. Michigan play a gem of a defensive game and did everything they planned on but still lost, as you said.
And we beat them in the tournament in 1989, on the way to the National Championship
Xavier
South Alabama
North Carolina
Virginia
Illinois
Seton Hall
I can remember that without even looking. I am old.

It was the Fab Five 1992-1993 season in the second round.
Or maybe just make a couple free throws and maybe not miss eleventy billion shots around the rim.
When an entire offense has an off night like Michigan did, it really doesn't matter who you play. I can only give UCLA partial credit for their defense but it was a matter of a dreadful night of offense on Michigan.
Yes, Michigan can beat UCLA maybe 7 of 10 times but it doesn't matter because we had our shot at it last night and just couldn't make that last bucket to win the game.
Maybe we should run practices at midnight at various times during the season?
Michigan played a historically good basketball school (god knows they aren't a football school) who showed up to play. It's unfortunate that Michigan just didn't quite wake up to play in a game of this importance. It will be another lesson for them.
UCLA has shocked the world by beating the #1 seed in their part of the bracket. Congrats to them and it would be awesome to see them win it all.
Nah. Just don't start games at 10 p.m. EST, 7 p.m. PST with them again. We had a lot of open looks, and more than they did.
That’s the latest game we’ve played all year and we did it on less than 48 hours notice... if they were following a normal sleep schedule, they were probably going to bed at 10pm almost every night there. Not easy to play a basketball game when your body is telling you that you should be asleep.
No, this is stupid.
When you go 0/8 down the stretch, you lose. This is not some big curse or monkey on the team's back.

I wonder if the psychology of knowing that if they won this game, that they would be playing the 'GOAT', i.e., Gonzaga. This could be known as a 'trap game'. They probably did not respect UCLA enough and their mind was not where it should have been for this game. How can everyone have an off night? Maybe, Juwan should add a psychologist to the staff to get the players in the right frame of mind before games.

UCLA didn't win because of some magic juju they had over Michigan. UCLA won because Michigan failed to take advantage of plentiful opportunities to win. Michigan missed its last eight buckets. Eight. Just one gets you to OT. Two buckets gets you a Final Four.
Give UCLA credit. Their path to victory was by forcing a sloppy, disgusting game, and that's exactly what they did.

During the game they talked about how UCLA had won 23 straight games when leading at the half. This streak of course extends into last season, and perhaps the season before as well when Cronin wasn't even their coach. It's a pretty empty stat when considering how different teams are from year to year.
Same goes for the notion that UCLA historically gives us problems in the tourney. The players, coaches, everything is different on a yearly basis and certainly compared to 20, 30, 40 years ago. But UCLA can be considered one of the blue bloods of the sport. They have typically been good over the years, and historically speaking probably a better program overall than Michigan. So it's not a surprise that we have a losing tourney record against them over the course of time.

we'll be scheduled to play them in Atlantis next season, its a great match up and we'll give them the beating that we SHOULD have last night.
Had nothing to do with "UCLA." We should have destroyed them and even playing our worst game of the year (excluding Minnesota), we still should have won in the end. I'll take them anytime! They will lost to Gonzaga by 30. We would have a had a fun matchup against the Zags.
Stop being a pansy. Let's get some revenge instead soon!
