January 24th, 2021 at 6:22 PM ^
Yes, it does. What more!
January 24th, 2021 at 6:56 PM ^
How about....
January 24th, 2021 at 7:07 PM ^
State Farm is looking at 0 - 2 on its TV commercial QBs so far.
January 24th, 2021 at 7:11 PM ^
....makings of the State Farm jinx???
January 25th, 2021 at 10:20 AM ^
Mahomes is in their commercials as well, I think they will be alright.
January 24th, 2021 at 10:24 PM ^
He's always #10 to me.
January 24th, 2021 at 6:21 PM ^
GUYS . . .TOM BRADY IS KIND OF GOOD.
January 24th, 2021 at 9:33 PM ^
Go fucking Blue!!
January 24th, 2021 at 6:21 PM ^
Is there any question anymore? Correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't see Belichick on the sideline.
January 24th, 2021 at 6:23 PM ^
Yes, apparently. "Is there any question anymore?"
January 24th, 2021 at 7:04 PM ^
And Belichick still has a losing record without Brady.
January 25th, 2021 at 8:43 AM ^
Might be why his coaching tree hasn’t panned out. Brady was propping up a mediocre coach?!?!?!?
January 24th, 2021 at 7:26 PM ^
Belichick looks like an ass at this point.
HIs legacy is completely tarnished.
Brady made Belichick.
January 24th, 2021 at 8:15 PM ^
I think that’s taking it a bit too far. Belichick is an amazing coach. One of the best. But great coaches still need great players to win championships. Just look at Andy Reid. His coaching has received universal praise for the last twenty years but he didn’t win a Super Bowl until Mahomes showed up.
Certainly we can put to rest the bullshit “Belichick made Brady what he is” stuff, but there’s no reason to assume that the opposite must be true. They achieved more together than anyone else in the sport ever has. I still think Belichick is the best coach, just like I still think Brady is the best QB.
January 24th, 2021 at 9:21 PM ^
well put...no more needs to be added...
January 24th, 2021 at 10:39 PM ^
Just look at Andy Reid.
Yeah... I'm looking at him and he's a guy that has a 16-14 record in the playoffs vis-a-vis Belichick who is 1-1 in the playoffs without Tom Brady.
LOL.
I'm not sure the point want to make is the point you're trying to make.
January 25th, 2021 at 10:54 AM ^
Per Wikipedia:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andy_Reid
Big Red was 11-12 in the playoffs before KC took Mahomes in the 2017 draft.
Since then he's 6-2 (though 2021 playoffs) 0.75%.
Belichick is 1-1 prior to getting Brady as you stated. Since 2000 when Brady was drafted and Belichick became the Patriots HC he's 30-11 (0.73%). There's not enough data yet to make an ideal comparison but that doesn't negate the comparison. So far they're both about .500 in the playoffs without great QB play.
January 25th, 2021 at 1:09 PM ^
So far they're both about .500 in the playoffs without great QB play.
...and without that great QB, Reid still has more wins and playoff success than Belichick.
There's plenty of data. Your reasoning is bad and you should be ashamed.
January 25th, 2021 at 1:50 PM ^
Wow, you seem to think this is a knock on Big Red. It's not. Andy is a great coach and so is Bill. Anyone who says otherwise is a fool.
Andy had more playoff successes without Mahomes than Belichick without Brady but the ratios are about the same.
You could also say that Belichick has had more playoff success with Brady than Reid has had with Mahomes. Again the win ratio is about the same.
Yes the data pools are small for both scenarios but the trajectories are very similar.
Glad we don't live in a world where anyone who doesn't agree with you is shamed in the public square.....oh wait.....
January 25th, 2021 at 12:18 PM ^
Belichick still did a pretty great job making the Patriots a reasonably competitive team with a broken QB who couldn't pass for 100 ypg and a bunch of opt outs. I think a lot of teams would be getting 0-2 wins with that same roster
January 24th, 2021 at 10:01 PM ^
But you did see a damn good defense supporting Tom with tough play and 14 points.
January 24th, 2021 at 10:31 PM ^
In Belichick's defense, until this year he was the only coach in the last 27 years to lead the Browns to a playoff win. He was also smart enough to stick with Brady when Bledsoe (a pretty solid QB at that time) got healthy late in the season.
January 24th, 2021 at 6:21 PM ^
Yeah - I think the argument remains quite settled!
January 24th, 2021 at 6:22 PM ^
Not just the greatest QB of all time, but the greatest player of all time.
January 24th, 2021 at 6:36 PM ^
Greatest human of all time. Move over Mother Teresa.
January 24th, 2021 at 7:15 PM ^
Can't cross positions.
Barry Sanders was the best rb. Only guy who could cause injury without contact.
January 25th, 2021 at 12:17 PM ^
Rod Woodson approves this message.
January 24th, 2021 at 6:28 PM ^
How did you get a picture of Rgard's mom dressed as Tom Brady?
January 24th, 2021 at 6:59 PM ^
Welcome back, Smokey. How have you been?
January 24th, 2021 at 8:10 PM ^
How have I been?! HOW HAVE I BEEN?!?! I'll tell ya how I've been you son of a bitch. Good.
January 24th, 2021 at 7:38 PM ^
How come we never see a pic of your mom?
Is it because in all of them, we only see the back of her head?
January 24th, 2021 at 7:49 PM ^
Thanks for the indirect support, but we should cut MeanJoe some slack.
First my mother dumped him for John O'Neill.
Then his habitat burned down.
January 24th, 2021 at 6:22 PM ^
So it looks like that whole "who made who great" when discussing Belichick and Brady has been decisively settled.
January 24th, 2021 at 6:23 PM ^
Back in October.

January 24th, 2021 at 6:33 PM ^
Double negative = positive.
January 24th, 2021 at 7:34 PM ^
Belichik had a solid career as a defensive coordinator with the Giants; a very average career with the Browns - and a great career with the Patriots - clearly Tom Brady played a huge part - but don't forget Belichik had sense enough to draft him, AND most of all saw enough in training camp to keep three QBs when he had a proven starter in Drew Bledsoe - (4 x Pro Bowls, 2nd team All Pro) - carried Tom Brady and Michael Bishop on the 2000 roster.
The Brady we see in 2021 clearly benefitted from the time spent up in Boston with Belichik.
January 24th, 2021 at 8:25 PM ^
Finally the voice of reason! To say its all Brady is a slap in the face to the Wilfork, Seymour, Bruschi, Vrabel, Harrison, Gronk, Light, McCourtey etc......... that have played for the Patriots over the past 20 years.
January 24th, 2021 at 6:26 PM ^
Cam Newton certainly didn’t look like Tom Brady this season, soooo....
January 24th, 2021 at 6:27 PM ^
This season proved nothing re:Belichick.
January 24th, 2021 at 6:41 PM ^
Belichick will never see another Super Bowl. He may not even see another Playoff game.
January 24th, 2021 at 7:13 PM ^
Of course he will....just needs to buy him self a ticket.
January 24th, 2021 at 6:44 PM ^
He's had eight seasons as a head coach without Brady on his roster or not starting (including rookie year and injured year)
He's won a total of one playoff game in those eight seasons, and that's when he was with the Browns
No other time did his team even make the playoffs
January 24th, 2021 at 7:14 PM ^
Sounds like a lie-downs coach!
January 24th, 2021 at 10:26 PM ^
Sounds nothing like the Lie-downs. One playoff win in eight years? That would be magical! We’re one in 63 (and counting).
January 24th, 2021 at 7:17 PM ^
You're right, he was the last coach to win a playoff game at Cleveland until this year. Good point. You conveniently also left out his 11-5 season with Matt Cassel.
Look, I understand this is a Michigan blog so the narrative is written, but the bottom line is if you think Brady single handedly made the Patriots into what they were and the front office and Belichick were just happy bystanders, well yeah, just don't try that narrative outside MGoBlog. And if you think one season with Cam Newton proves anything, well, yeah don't bet your career on analytical skills.
January 24th, 2021 at 7:30 PM ^
"the bottom line is Brady single handedly made the Patriots"
FIFY.
Numbers don't lie.
January 24th, 2021 at 8:11 PM ^
Numbers need context. Or maybe you think Stafford is a horrible QB because he never won a playoff game.
