Basketball Snowflakes!!!
What a win! Dickenson is a beast! Bang away! GO BLUE!

Offensive Juggernaut? Awesome!

Juwan Cabbage Patch worthy performance!

Basketball snowflakes sound like they would hurt someone.

Pretty complete performance. Solid on both ends of the floor!
December 31st, 2020 at 10:32 PM ^
This... but making free throws in the first half, and the game in general, was the reason we weathered the 9-11 3 pt shooting from Maryland.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:02 PM ^
Woo hood, bang me!!!
December 31st, 2020 at 10:03 PM ^
I love watching this team move the ball. They are a very good passing team and very unselfish. So fun to watch.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:23 PM ^
Good ball movement, crisp passing, and unselfish play are signs of a disciplined, well-coached team.

This is a great point. And I also think we're all underappreciating Franz's passing. Ace called out his wrap-around bounce pass to HD for an easy dunk, but he looks so complete right now. Enjoy watching him this season because he's playing himself into the middle of round one with a strong March being a ticket to the lottery.

With Juwan’s fame and magnetic personality, we knew recruiting would likely pop. All he needed was a little bit of early momentum. It looks like he is way ahead of the curve, and with the number one recruiting class coming next year, buckle up your seatbelts for some good times!
December 31st, 2020 at 11:08 PM ^
Juwan was a home run hire. He’s gonna bring in the best talent possible and it’s already evident. Now can be win the big one...that is TBD. I however have full confidence in him!
December 31st, 2020 at 11:21 PM ^
Definitely was underwhelmed when Juwan was hired. I figured Beilein took us to the next level and made us a program attractive enough for someone like Donovan or Few instead of having to go after someone who's never been a head coach.
Can whole heartedly say I was wrong, he's killing it. Recruiting is dominant and the Xs and Os are good enough so far. A lot of his legacy is yet to be written, but I can't imagine a much better start to his coaching career than he's managed
December 31st, 2020 at 11:39 PM ^
We all hate (for football at least) the ‘Michigan Man’ hure but it 100% helped us in getting Juwan. If Juwan was not an alumni, I don’t see us going to hire a 2nd assistant on an NBA team.
Warde gets a lot of shit but he has hit it out of the park on both the big Basketball and Hockey hires. Makes me want to think he’s making the right move giving Jim a second chance.
January 1st, 2021 at 12:00 AM ^
I don’t think anyone* has ever said “don’t hire a coach with Michigan connections” or even “having Michigan connections is not a positive when looking for a coach”. The problem was always, “ONLY a coach with pre-existing Michigan connections should be considered”.
*okay yes, you can probably find a few because internet

This is a good team. They weathered the 1st half 3 pt barrage from Maryland and blew them out of the water in the 2nd half. Dickinson and Wagner were great tonight. It's good to see Wagner finally snapping out of his slump and play up to his potential. Also, Juwan showed that he can coach and know how to adjust which it showed in the 2nd half when Michigan made crisp plays on both side of the ball.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:03 PM ^
This was a great win. Maryland shot the lights out from beyond the arc (13-22, WTF!), Livers and Chaundee both had off nights, and we STILL won by double digits. GO BLUE.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:05 PM ^
At one point they were 10-13, but finally cooled off
December 31st, 2020 at 10:08 PM ^
It didn't feel as if they missed 3s at all. And the thing about the ball going in the hoop, when it goes smoothly, it looks as if it would continue the second half.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:26 PM ^
Livers rolled his ankle on our second or third possession, which is why he was off.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:41 PM ^
Rebounding and turnovers were basically a wash, and Maryland killed us from 3 (13-22 vs. 6-19). So how did we win by double digits? 75% (24-32) shooting from 2 and 90% (18-20) from the line. Dickinson just killed them, and his presence made it easier for everyone else to score inside too.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:04 PM ^
God I hope dickinson doesn’t go pro
December 31st, 2020 at 10:07 PM ^
If he does go it’s because he’s earned it! We have a 5 star big coming in next season but ya would be sweet if he could stick around for just one more season.
January 1st, 2021 at 8:39 AM ^
agreed - i hope he sticks around, but if he does go, it will likely be because he played his way there, unlike the dudes who know they’re gone the moment they sign their letter of intent.
i do think there’s a role for him in the nba, for what it’s worth. in a three point heavy offense, there’s all sorts of room for easy shots inside. sometimes james harden will go 2 of 13 (especially in a playoff game), and you need to get easy buckets.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:07 PM ^
Pretty sure he's not one and done. He's not projected anywhere at 1st round.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:12 PM ^
He’s Luka Garza 2.0–a college monster who, unfortunately, has no place in the modern NBA.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:18 PM ^
Garza came back and worked on his outside shot. He could be a good player in the NBA though. He is better then Kaminsky was in college by alot and Frank has a NBA career so far. Not the best but he has been a backup or starter on every team he has played. Hunter is good but so far he is nowhere near Garza in having an outside game. Hunter needs to develop an outside game and become alot quicker to be an NBA player. But a player like Dickinson in college is awesome because he is very good and most likely will be a 3 or 4 year player.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:27 PM ^
Still think Dickinson's free throws show he can become at least respectable outside. And he's gone the second he does.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:31 PM ^
I think it’ll be 2 years for Hunter since he’s already 20 as a freshman
December 31st, 2020 at 10:41 PM ^
With Coach Howard mentoring Dickenson, I think you're selling him short.
There's still room in the NBA for someone with Hunter's skill set. And it's somewhat a matter of which coach and system gets his talents and makes proper use of those talents.
December 31st, 2020 at 11:16 PM ^
Garza can score from 3 levels and almost won NPoY last year and NBA teams still aren't that interested in him. I think people misunderstand what NBA teams want in centers nowadays
January 1st, 2021 at 10:12 AM ^
There's no NBA role for Garza because he's so bad defensively. Can't move his feet and doesn't offer any rim protection. Dickinson's at least 2 inches taller, looks capable of at least staying in contact on the perimeter ,and definitely protects the rim.
That said, Dickinson will need to develop a 3 to be effective in the pros. But he seems like he can model his NBA game off Brooke Lopez.
January 1st, 2021 at 9:43 PM ^
If there was an Anthony Davis for every team, then every team would have an Anthony Davis. There’s a reason The Warriors kept Andrew Bogut and various other traditional centers on their teams even when they were leading the small-ball revolution.
There is definitely a role for Dickerson on an NBA team. It may not be a huge starring role, it may not even involve starting every game, but an NBA roster is not complete without a real center unless you just happen to have Anthony Davis on your team (who doesn’t even want to play center, anyway).
When you look at his shooting percentage around the rim…he might actually be a great fit for the right NBA team (I’m thinking Spurs). If you look at the NFL, where the passing game has been so dominant, it seems like every year there’s some team that has the right RB/o-line combination to flip the script and it works because defenses aren’t built to defend that so much anymore (Belichick did this with Blount, the Cowboys before they overspent, the 49ers, Titans, Rams, etc.). Dickerson could be like those great RB/O-line combos that, by being so solid at what he does, goes old school and it works and modern NBA teams won’t have an answer. It is odd how reliable he is posting up players.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:04 PM ^
Chaundee brown had a pretty rough first half, not much time on the court in the second. All else seemed to grade out somewhere between good to fantastic.
December 31st, 2020 at 11:06 PM ^
He played great defense in the second half
December 31st, 2020 at 10:05 PM ^
Dickinson was amazing but I’m really pleased with how much better Wagner is playing. He’s been much more consistent compared to the start of the season.
Loved this win. When your opponent is draining every 3 they throw up and you still win like that? Beeeeeautiful.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:07 PM ^
Wagner is finally playing like he was expected to. Never too late and now this team has some unbelievable potential
December 31st, 2020 at 11:03 PM ^
Resting that ankle for two weeks did wonders for Franz
December 31st, 2020 at 10:06 PM ^
I kept thinking players were getting sloppy with the ball but now it feels I was wrong. I wonder what the numbers say.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:11 PM ^
We had 12 turnovers, which is not great. But the pace was frenetic at times, so to some extent, it comes with the territory. I'm sure it's an area that Juwan will focus on in practice.
Not only is this team playing well, they seem to have improved noticeably in certain areas over the course of the season (most notably the defense). It looks like the sky's the limit for what they can achieve.
December 31st, 2020 at 11:18 PM ^
It did feel like we had a lot of careless turnovers

I love sports betting and I LOVE Michigan!!!! Wooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
December 31st, 2020 at 10:53 PM ^
Michigan has definitely been on a positive run ATS!
December 31st, 2020 at 10:08 PM ^
I was impressed by a lot of things, and I love how good this offense is. Dickinson, Wagner and Smith played terrific basketball.
One more thing: after the podcast and the preview, I paid attention to the offensive performance of Maryland when Chaundee Brown was on the floor. I think I counted the Terps making five 2-point buckets out of probably 20 shots. It won’t show up in the stats, but he was a big difference maker. He, Wagner and Brooks play terrific defense.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:12 PM ^
He was Coach Howard’s closer out of the bullpen tonight. Just a brilliant shutdown defender.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:28 PM ^
I was hoping someone else noticed that. Brown did a yeoman's job disrupting the Maryland offense in the 2nd half and the rest of our D stepped it up too following his lead.
Except for a handful of garbage time buckets by the turtles, that was a total shutdown job for the last 16 or so minutes.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:34 PM ^
Yep - that dude gives 110% always. I have to imagine that a senior who works that hard every possession provides a great role model for the team.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:08 PM ^
The man is making it harder and harder to watch games without cable.
December 31st, 2020 at 10:11 PM ^
I will counter argue that and say that it is EASIER to watch any game you want without cable. Just need a decent internet connection and the ability to Google "reddit ncaa streams"

December 31st, 2020 at 10:12 PM ^
How do the refs call a technical on Dickinson for staring at the Maryland bench after he scored?
That's a cheap call.
