LSU closes campus for coming hurricane... yet football team will continue to practice

Thats how you win championships /s

If you haven't figured out by now at least some of our middling success over the past 15 years has to do with the fact that other schools, fanbases and boosters are way more invested in the success of their football teams, I don't know what to tell you.
I'm not saying that's necessarily a good thing, but it is absolutely part of the equation.

That is how ‘ships are won!
Is that different? ?

He is subtly explaining that this is how you win REPEATED champsionships.
/You're so obtuse
August 23rd, 2020 at 9:25 PM ^
Proving yet again that the SEC is very serious about player safety.
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:54 PM ^
SEC has a different definition of what is safe.
August 23rd, 2020 at 9:25 PM ^
I did not know Miami (YTM) was on their home schedule???
August 23rd, 2020 at 9:27 PM ^
The hurricane is just gonna have to be something we learn to live with. There's no protective measures or anything that we can do that will save lives

If even 1 person dies from a hurricane, that is too many. Everyone needs to take shelter in place! If everyone would shelter in place the hurricane would go away in time for school or something like that.
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:06 PM ^
Umm yeah that would not be good if someone died from a hurricane and everyone should shelter in place if one was about to hit if they couldn’t leave.
I realize you were attempting a joke on the libs but it came off crappy.
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:49 PM ^
No. He actually knocked it the hell out of the park.
August 23rd, 2020 at 11:46 PM ^
People dying is funny.
Having people work for $7.25/hour during a pandemic/hurricane is patriotic.
August 23rd, 2020 at 11:34 PM ^
No, don't shelter in place, go to McDonald's because economy!
August 23rd, 2020 at 11:20 PM ^
There were 23 tropical storms in the 1910's, and we were still able to deal with the Spanish Flu and WWI. If these kids can't deal with a pandemic and a hurricane simultaneously and still make it to practice, then what are we giving them athletic scholarships for. Feel free to share this post on Facebook and simply write the caption "FACTS".
August 23rd, 2020 at 11:50 PM ^
Yeah, 37 million people died from WWI, but it was dealt with well.
Idiot.
August 24th, 2020 at 7:55 AM ^
I believe that the hurricane went right over your head. That's a good thing
August 24th, 2020 at 2:00 PM ^
Are you aggrieved? You seem aggrieved.
August 24th, 2020 at 1:35 PM ^
Or put the FACTS against a picture of Morgan Freeman or George Carlin.

August 23rd, 2020 at 9:28 PM ^
Good for them.
August 24th, 2020 at 8:13 AM ^
It may or may not be safe to practice during a hurricane. I honestly have no idea, because I've never experienced one and neither am I a meteorologist.
The problem is that by any measure I can think of, if it's not safe to have students go to class, it's definitely not safe to have students practice football. The fact that football is still happening despite campus being shut down very clearly says that 1) the school values football more than academics, and 2) the school values football more than the safety of those doing the football.
Now, maybe the whole thing is overblown, and it's perfectly safe to practice football during a hurricane. In that case, it's definitely safe to go to class, too, right?
August 23rd, 2020 at 9:41 PM ^
Can we just end the year 2020 and get on with 2021. This year is just a wasted year and needs to be done with.
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:03 PM ^
On a more serious note, it does feel like 2020 is the year everyone just says "what the fuck is going on" in every American institution - politics, police, college sports, conspiracies, everything is totally batshit crazy upside down and I hope a lot of people realize how crazy this country has become.
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:09 PM ^
Roughly 2/3 of the country realizes it. The other 1/3 lives the crazy.
August 24th, 2020 at 1:53 AM ^
And yet somehow the 1/3 gets to be in charge...
August 24th, 2020 at 7:45 AM ^
The flip side to the whole union beating the Confederacy coin.
August 24th, 2020 at 2:09 PM ^
I don't follow your logic with this statement. So, in the time honored tradition of internet commenting, I will righteously flay you in a public place:
YOU IDIOT! YOU THINK YOU COMMIE HILLBILLY'S SHOULD HAVE WON THE CIVIL WAR? JUST BECAUSE GRANT BURNED THE SOUTH DOESN'T MEAN THE SOUTH SHOULD RUN THE COUNTRY!!! WE DIDN'T MASKS WHEN IT WAS BURNING, SO WE DON'T NEED THEM NOW!!!! WAIT, I'M FROM THE NORTH, BUT STILL...!!
(/time honored internet commenting tradition when you don't understand what was said, but just have to say something)
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:13 PM ^
2020 is crazy enough to where Kobe Bryant’s untimely death is now the definition of ancient news. Barely a footnote of a footnote to what has happened since the start of this year.
Seriously, that day feels like it happened seven years ago at this point.
August 24th, 2020 at 9:05 AM ^
We should have known then that this year was going to be a bad one. We still have 4 months left.
August 23rd, 2020 at 9:48 PM ^
The hurricane doesn’t hit til tomorrow, guys. They have PLENTY of time to get in at least two more practices. They might even use the hurricane for an epic weather conditions practices opportunity. Kick field goals and throw passes in 80+mph winds! I bet the kicker makes a 95 yarder!
seriously, though, this is batshit. Get the fuck out.
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:00 PM ^
In the SEC, it just means more.

August 23rd, 2020 at 10:02 PM ^
Any chance that might be because (a) it's easier to manage and shelter a group of 250, than thousands of individuals; (b) Marco is currently expected to brush Baton Rouge with <40mph winds and the threat has been decreasing; and (c) Laura isn't yet a hurricane, shouldn't arrive until Wed-Thurs (so there's time to take action), and is currently forecast to arrive with 25-35mph winds?
I just don't yet get the feeling that "lives are in danger", to quote Colonel Jessup.
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:10 PM ^
That's a very logical analysis. It does make me wonder why they are closing campus though if the risk is so low.
August 24th, 2020 at 11:57 AM ^
Because it take time to evacuate thousands of people. You don't make that decision last minute. When the decision is made, you don't know what the risk is.
August 24th, 2020 at 2:16 PM ^
What Pompano Jack said. If that storm makes a slight turn towards Baton Rouge it hits with full force - and with no time to evacuate thousands of students, many of whom will not have transportation. And many of whom will have parents coming to town looking for them, or having already evacuated somewhere else.
Better safe than sorry. I can see keeping the football team around, though. Much easier to corral a couple hundred into a secure building than thousands...
August 23rd, 2020 at 11:15 PM ^
Grave danger?
August 23rd, 2020 at 11:37 PM ^
Is there any other kind?
August 23rd, 2020 at 11:26 PM ^
It's one thing to shelter in place. It's another to keep practicing during a tropical system. The threat of a major hurricane was never there. The threat of tornadoes are still there, and being on the east side of both of these storms, only increases those chances.
It'd make sense to practice Monday before the storm gets there, and just ride out the next couple days until Laura passes by. Better to be safe than sorry.
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:08 PM ^
This is why we will never compete with the SEC. Football is religion down there. It takes priority over everything. Even health and safety.
August 23rd, 2020 at 11:12 PM ^
In that case, Brian Kelly and ND should have joined the SEC instead.
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:09 PM ^
I once got up on the roof to adjust my satellite dish during the remnants of a hurricane
I'll never do that again
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:21 PM ^
Did Brian Kelly tell you that would be ok?
August 24th, 2020 at 8:44 AM ^
I had to jump my wife’s car in the middle of a tropical storm. Man, the sparks that fly when the ground cable is wet...not cool. Thank God those cable grips are insulated.
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:09 PM ^
Ed Orgeron sitting pretty with that title ring and undefeated season under his belt. That’s afforded him the leeway in Baton Rouge to do whatever he wants.
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:11 PM ^
Yeah? Does it bother you? Is it a problem it means more to them rather than some teams and conferences? Good for them. They at least get to enjoy some football.
August 23rd, 2020 at 10:44 PM ^
Well, they do have a season opener they’re trying to get ready for.
