My understanding of the…

My understanding of the question asked to Craig is in the current Wild West, no rules NIL approach, would Michigan be able to maintain their solid culture that produced 3 playoff appearances and 1 national championship.  Craig voiced his doubt and brought up the fear of the culture becoming like A&M.  I was surprised Seth forcefully pushed back on that.  Absolutely the culture will change in a no-holds-barred approach in NIL.  I thought the "this is Michigan fergod's sake" mindset died with Hoke's firing.  The winged helmet is cool, but it is not magical (this year it seemed like it might be).  There has to be rules that are applied evenly throughout the sport.  Comparing Michigan, in being able to maintain culture, to the Lions where there are contracts and salary caps that bring stability and balance is not a fair comparison.  If revenue sharing comes about, Michigan is absolutely able to retain a superior culture.  An A&M approach that is being forced on college football produces an A&M culture.

I met Jay while he was on a recruiting trip in Louisiana.  The high school coaches where Jay was recruiting knew I was a big Michigan fan because my son always wore his Michigan shirts to practice.  They introduced me to him, and he was awesome.  We spent 20 minutes talking and I was trying to not monopolize his time.  If he had given any indication that he was in a hurry or had something else to do, I would have thanked him for his time and gone my way thinking very highly of him.  He never acted like he was too busy or the least bit distracted.  He didn't talk to me like I was some random fan, which is exactly what I was, instead he was invested in our conversation.  he was more than just being polite.  He was honest and genuine.  After he went his way, the high school coaches raved about him.  They said he was the best dude they ever had visit a recruit.  Nothing but respect for Jay Harbaugh, and for his dad who raised a great man.  Go Blue! and now "Go Chargers!"

Minor correction.  Kansas…

Minor correction.  Kansas State is in Manhattan.  Kansas University (where Dickinson plays) is in Lawrence.  Those two schools and fanbases dislike each other very much, but people outside of Kansas don't realize the amount of animosity that exists between them because outside of Kansas, it doesn't matter.

College players get paid.  Paid players are professional.  Professional players get cut.  I don't like it either, but you can't have it both ways.  I like amateur sports.  I like college football.  They are not the same thing anymore.

Is your opinion on the GM…

Is your opinion on the GM about this particular trade or the trades that the new GM was unable to make?  The OP suggests this wasn't a good trade because the piece they gave up did well, but wasn't that the point of the trade?  Phillies get value now and the tigers are hoping for value later?

Some rain bands will impact Baton Rouge with Laura.  Other than that, no big deal.

I live in the area. Not all hurricanes are Katrina.  With some you evacuate, with some you shelter in place.  Some fragment and fall apart.  Some shift and miss you all together.  Marco is ending up to be no big deal.  But, emptying out an entire campus is difficult last minute.  The decision to close schools in the area was made Saturday.  This morning ever body realizes this storm is going to be no big deal.  This is not a tornado where ma grabs the chickens and heads to the cellar.  Marco is going to pitter out and barely be a tropical storm by the time it makes landfall.  It is the equivalent of cancelling practice today because a thunderstorm is hitting late afternoon.

For folks who have weight…

For folks who have weight loss as a goal, cardio alone doesn't do it.  Cardio without strength training will slow your metabolism.  Running depletes leg muscles and they need to be rebuilt with strength resistance.  This is what I learned in a college weight training class 20 years ago.  New studies may disagree with that now.  I'm an old fart and things change.  Body weight resistance is adequate to repair the muscles torn down by cardio.  Keep it simple., chest, back, and legs.  12-15 reps per set if your goal is weight loss.  Becoming beastly requires a whole different approach.

Nobody down here thought Emery was going to LSU back when he committed to Georgia.  Now that LSU hasn't been the train wreck people thought they would be it has become more of a possibility, but still unlikely.  I don't think it is too strange for a RB with NFL dreams to choose Georgia.

Recap - Rutgers is bad at football.  Really bad.  But when you compare scores, KU might be as good as Ohio State.  (Just guaranteed I will never be asked to provide any future analysis.)

First time through I watch the game like a fan.  Second time watching, I look at formations, and play recognition.  I watch a lot of WLB because my son plays that position in HS.  The camera angles on T.V. make it difficult to watch coverage schemes or receivers coming open.

Five day concussion protocol

There is a five day concussion protocol.  CDC website has good information on it.  The point is to avoid 2nd impact syndrom.  Most states have the 5 day protocol mandated in law.  Youth sports coaches, you need to know and follow the protocol or you could be fined.  USA football also has info on concussion protocol with their "heads Up" training.

Entrepreneur

I am a partner in a company that trains coaches for youth sports, and consults youth sports organizations.  Enjoy it.

Early Sports Specialization

Early Sports Specialization is a hot topic in the youth sports blogs.  There is almost universal support for multi-sports athletes.  The difficulty I have found is that while most agree, youth programs take most of your time and resources so that you are unable to have your child participate in other sports, or have your kids take a break and do nothing.

Parkway is a 5A school that has been really good the last few years.  They are a program not just a football team.  In Lousiana good programs like Parkway hire coaches, not just teachers who like sports.  I watched them play 2 years ago a couple of times.  It is a school with plenty of talent. The best coaches in the state are going to want that job.

No, he is not taken seriously

No, he is not taken seriously down here either.  Most sports fans don't like him.  Alabama fans are ok with him.  That's about it.

As a father of four, my advice is don't worry.  Your kids are going to get hurt.  You can't stop it.  They also tend to "get over" things pretty quickly.

2nd Impact Syndrom

The dangerous part of a concussion is the second impact syndrom.  That is when the brain receives another impact before being recovered.  CDC has good info.  Even after she is recovered if any symptoms return she needs to go back to resting it.  There is a five step process for "return to play".  Again, check out what the CDC has on its website.

I'll admit that when I read that a game's result from the previous season would count a half game for the next year's season, I stopped reading.

Simpson's Play

I was very impressed with Simpson's play tonight.  He was known for his scoring in HS.  I think we will all be impressed with him as an assist man next year.  He had some creative-skillful passes tonight.  Impressed with his vision.

They didn't fire Miles for

They didn't fire Miles for Coach O.  They fired Miles and got stuck with Orgeron.  They were hoping for somebody better.

The Nest D-Train

The next A-Train is John Emery. He is heading into his Junior year and recently was offered by Georgia.  Plays for Destrehan High School who puts out a lot of D-1 talent.  I would love for Michigan to pick this young man up.

I Would Love That

If Harris just shows up without an annoucement, he would be my favorite player for all time.  I would expect him to walk onto campus with a hard hat and a blue collard shirt with his name on the front, lunch pail in hand.

Being Thankful

A buddy who is a Missouri Grad wished me luck for the big game.  I told him it was nice to be relevant again.  He promised to let me know when it happens again for him.  I am thankful to not be a fan of Missouri. Oh, thankful for my family too.

Vehemently Disagree

Louisiana has a ton of top-notch high school talent.  There is no other major program in state to challenge LSU in recruiting that talent.  Alabama pulls a few, but that is it.  It doesn't take a great coach to succeed at LSU, a decent coach would do just fine.  Les Miles was less than decent.  His team won games because of pure talent.  His coaching was a hindrance to their success.  He insisted on running a pro system but always recruited a dual threat qb.  And then never developed him.  LSU isn't heading toward mediocrity.  Getting rid of Miles was a step towards increased relevance.

Simply Stated

MSU was desiring to grind out a loss and Michigan was willing to let them.

I start getting a headache after watching for a few minutes and change the channel to almost anything else.

I too, am glad that Ohio State and Michigan state loss this evening.  I would also like to be a part of the pos bang process.

Make A Pile!

My football coach would yell "make a pile!" when a defender was out-leveraged and consequently going to be pushed out of the play leaving a wide gap for the ball carrier.  The first time he yelled "make a pile!" I completly misunderstood.  In the woods, "making a pile" means something else entirely.
