OT: Dumbest thing done whilst staying quarantined.
I launched my boat today. Due to brackish water, I taker her out of the water each Monday. Our usual plan is to hit the glass water at seven am sharp. Ski for an hour or two then pick up omelette and a half galling of frozen screw drivers via boat and have a feast in the house. I spent this afternoon cleaning the hull. I was on my back in the driveway scraping god knows what off the hull of my Mastercraft. Painstakingly cleaned every inch, filled Her with gas, whole nine yards. My nine and six year old have gone up on skis and are doing great. My nine year old wants to start slalom skiing like her dad and uncle. The joy of teaching them the love of skiing has been a gift for which I cannot repay. Tomorrow morning was going to be up at six thirty, first skier up by seven am. We were all excited and, still are, having steaks and baked broccoli for dinner. We are no longer going to bed early for the morning, because jackass mcgee (me) hit reverse thirty seconds early on the boat ramp. Prop nicked the trailer real good. Boat shakes like a junkie two hours after supper time. No I’m drinking. A. Lot. My own fault. Stupid mistake. I have the 500 for the prop no problem but I have to drive the boat to a prop guy on Monday. I ruined the Sunday skiing. F me. I’m pretty down on myself at the moment. Anyway, I figured I’d post this, share some others mistakes and turn it into a laugh. Stay safe everyone.
I half seriously asked our VP 8 weeks ago if we could relocate. She gave me the green light. Long story short movers arrive Monday and then I'm driving cross country. Been kicking myself for asking every day I'm carrying damn boxes in the house.
Well done and congrats!
I threw out our idea of relocating a few weeks ago to my boss and got the green light too. We’re still about a year away but now that full time remote seems more likely permanent, finally moving to the beach seems within reach.
Congrats to both. Six weeks from moving from Madison to Traverse City. Was just up there this weekend checking out rentals. Same stuff - covid kicked down the "remote just doesn't work" nonsense.
Cheers and good luck.
Dumbest thing I’ve done in quarantine? Probably saying the word “whilst” a hundred times in my head after reading this post.
Shorted TSLA
I feel you brother. I think your idea is correct, timing off. Purchase out of money puts for January 2022. That gives you plenty of time.
Dude I work with told me to buy TSLA in March of 2013–I didn’t. Now who’s stupid?
My best friend works there. Asked for half his salary in stock and options.
He's a millionaire now.
Cunt.
I don’t even know what you guys are talking about. Probably better that way.
TSLA = the stocker symbol for Tesla. 'Shorting TSLA' means he bet on Tesla's stock going down. And so, in the spirit of this post, it can safely be noted that the TSLA stock price went up.
I went shopping at a lighting store and Hobby Lobby. I saw the boobs on display you were talking about.
Nice!
What is it with women and lamp stores? My wife loves those places and there are always other attractive women there.
First guy that opens a lighting store / nightclub is going to get rich.
I dunno if he'll get rich but he's gonna get laid for sure.
Cheers.
Same thing, really.
Any restrictions or performance clauses when they can liquidate ?
smart move
Going to work everyday while the rest of the world draws unemployment is the dumbest thing I've done.
However because of our employees hard work and dedication it appears now we will be going on strike. Also because corporations is a bunch of money grubbing cunts.
So yeah everything is stupid
props can be ground down and you can probably make it good enough to ski on without too much trouble. just make sure the prop shafts on your V-drive (it is a v-drive, isn't it?) aren't tweaked. that could do more signif damage. put the booze down, grab a grinder and get to work.
got the avatar twins up on skis for the first time today. good stuff.
You clearly more talented than I. I looked it up on YouTube and the people had propane torches etc. I know my limits.
to your point, I have learned a great deal this past month about boat maintenance. A torch and a grinder may be a Harbor Freight purchase soon.
to let you know how dumb I am, I don’t have the correct tool to remove the prop. Much to learn.
don't sweat it. and in a pinch for your boat since it comes out of the water you don't need a prop puller, you can do it while on shaft. not optimal, but still enough to get a sunrise ski in. that said, at least up north, they are calling for some big storms tonight and into the morning so the dawn ski might be a bit too exciting anyway.
I misunderstood and thought he meant he was intending on going out today. Hope he has it back up for next weekend!
"You can do it while on shaft."
That's what she said.
What kind of prop are you running? SS, nibril, aluminum? If SS, be VERY careful with any of the shafts (either straight inboard or V-Drive), they tend to get tweaked from any impact because steel doesnt dissipate impact well. If nibril or aluminum, you're probably only looking at a ground and balanced wheel, at worst a new prop. Hope you're up and running next weekend!
If I had any idea how to maintain a boat I would probably get one.
I use to want a boat too, but then a long time ago I read a description that cooled me on the idea:
"A boat is a hole in the water in which the owner throws money."
They're not for everyone. Story:
A physician acquaintance of mine is in a group in coastal Florida with several other docs. They range in age from early 30s to late 60s and the age spacing is almost perfect. (All dudes, as the field is surgical and one that's still a sausage fest ...)
The second-youngest guy has a boat. The boat was purchased years ago by the oldest guy. He got tired of it after a few years and passed it to the doc closest to him in age. That process was repeated several times and they all expect it to happen again shortly.
My dads boat just sits on the trailer in his driveway. I think he likes tinkering with it more than actually sailing it.
The one I heard was...
The 2 best days of your life: the day you buy your boat and the day you sell it.
I'm not a nautical type, but I wouldn't mind owning a pontoon boat for taking to lakes.
For me the day you buy and sell it phrase rang true. I'm not very mechanical so that helped.
I could start a thread on all the dumb shit things that friends and relatives can do to screw up your boat.
I see you watched a lot of Pawn Stars.
Drank some bleach and shoved a UV bulb up my ass. I have to say, not as bad as I thought.
Sorry to say, you missed the COVID in your arms and legs.
At least you're not stuck with a warehouse full of hydroxychloroquine.
Pictures or it didn't happen.
As long as you didn't wear a mask - those guys are Morans!
I have surprisingly not screwed up any of the 90 million projects my wife has had me do since we started working remotely! It’s bound to happen soon though, so I’ll post an update when it does.
Before I think of whatever the real answer is I'll update you guys from the podcast--the one when we asked what you're afraid of getting into--to note that yes, I now play D&D. I have a half-orc named Devhn and he is headstrong but bad ass, and he (I) recently had to be dissuaded from going swimming at night in a full suit of armor after befriending a gnoll named Grog.
It's awesome!
I can’t recall if you’re into Star Wars or not, but Star Wars role-playing games (Star Wars D&D) are also awesome.
Was a huge fan in my youth but last movie killed a fandom I hadn't realized had been so sick. I won't say all the stories in that universe have been told because Mandalorian was good, and parts of Rogue One were great. But both of those stories, I thought, were hindered from having to exist in the Star Wars universe.
The open-ended storytelling is what I've liked most about this RPG. Restricting the world to what works for a massive movie franchise can't possibly make that better.
I mean, instead of being a warrior you can be a Mandalorian. That’s what makes it awesome!
But I understand what you’re saying. I’m not a fan of the newest trilogy, but the universe will always hold a place in my heart.
I had stopped playing for about 10 years and started back up a few months before Covid. I'm now playing 2-3 times a week using roll20. Just got done with 6 weeks of the campaign I'm running and now it's time to jump back into a campaign one of the other guys is running.
I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed it, and the rule changes from 3.5 to 5 have definitely been a big improvement.
Wizards/Magic Users: where the real power is.
Flag pole plastic screw got rusted into the plastic ring. Needed to get rid of plastic ring so I could buy new ring flag fastener.
Tried to cut through ring with a box cutter on the floor sitting indian style. Knew the risk of cutting over myself but put flagpole over right leg and tried to cut through the plastic ring. Knew the risk but was making safe progress. Increased speed and SLICE
Went off course and cut into my leg.
You need stitches.
It was 2 weeks ago. We cleaned the wound and put a healing band-aid patch on it and it naturally healed.
WD, please, next time you create a hole in your flesh, please go see a doctor.
that picture reminds me of when my sister and i used to take baths together in middle school.
Self-administered buzz cut. Brutal own goal.
I cut my husband's hair in the backyard with some sort of electric hair shears/razor. I was terrified but it turned out ok. I almost had him sign a waiver saying he wouldn't kill me if it didn't turn out well.
My wife cut my hair (and my kids' too...) back when we were broke. Now that going to the barber is perhaps a poor choice (and my wife is high risk) she has gone back to the shears.
I always tell her that it's no big deal for me, I don't see it.
