Whitmer Recommends Moving High School Football to Spring
Just watched her press conference. She stressed that the decision is up to the MHSAA, but she's recommending they consider moving football to the spring, and moving track and other non-contact spring sports to the fall. She said the MHSAA is expected to make a decision on this by July 20 or so.
Seems like this would greatly impact Michigan HS football players in terms of being recruited, unless the rest of the country follows suit.
Big Gretch....throwing her weight around again.
My favorite today...."And for Pete's sake, wear a mask when you go outdoors!"
Claiming Pete's sake made her sound very serious.
Petes a serious man.
He has a dragon you know.
My opinion of Big Gretch:
Who am I to disagree with someone who, after considering the limitless options the internet offers to make a statement like this, decided “Yep, a GIF of Saved by the Bell is definitely the way to go here.”
I would bet he secretly likes being pointed at and repeatedly being called stupid. Probably also has a bit of a crush (which is cool, but just be honest about it.)
He may also genuinely hate it when people look out for the interests of others. (Stupid clean water. Who told them not to dump toxic chemicals in my drinking water anyway? Deep State. And you can keep your Socialist roads too, since we're always at it!)
What part of looking out for others best interests was it when Michigan now ranks (easily) dead last in unemployment.
Might want to add that in fact in they're when assessing her decisions as that has negatively effected way more people in the state than the actual virus.
Are Hawaii and Nevada not states?

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Michigan ranked 48th (49th if you include DC). You could have said something like, Michigan is one of only 3 states with an unemployment rate of over 20%. Totally true and would make exactly the same point.
You’re so full of shit. We’re not “easily dead last.”
https://www.bls.gov/web/laus/laumstrk.htm
Oh look at what state is, NEVADA! How ironic given your user name.
The fact you can’t be the least bit honest totally undermines your ‘concern’
I disagree
Did she really say wear a mask outdoors? Like on a walk in your neighborhood or on a bicycle? Not only is that going to be completely ignored, it's not scientific.
I think she's done a very good job throughout all of this, but things like that are not helping her greater cause.
I believe that was being said while she advised against going to packed, crowded places. So, I would assume she doesn't mean on bikes or walking in the neighborhood, but if you're going to be around other people.
Wearing a mask outdoors is only necessary if you are in large groups.
She could have said, "Wear a mask, you fucking idiots!," but I'm guessing that would have been counter-productive.
Some people need to hear it like that...
Lol, Whitmer isn't going allow the schools to open so this is a non-starter.
Nope, she didn't say that.
The opening of schools and keeping them open depends upon what level the covid situation is.
She called on school districts to have 3 plans prepared for the upcoming school year: one each for level 3, 4, and 5. If the state slides backwards then schools will have to go back to 100% remote learning.
This is where our collective and individual behaviors kick in, where we can all do our part to have & keep schools open: wear masks, practice social distancing, wash hands and follow best hygiene habits, and we'll have a better chance at allowing schools to have successful reopenings.
Or be selfish and risk ruining it for the kids and for the families who want and need their kids to be in school.
I don’t think a lot of parents are going to send their kids back with those kind of restrictions. Masks at school on phase 5? Right. At least for me I can say that I won’t be sending m kid back to school until phase 6 anyway, so this will disincentivize me to really give a damn.
You wouldn’t send your kid to school because of the mask requirement? Given all your griping on here I would have thought you’d be overjoyed to have a chance to send your kid’s back to school. I know that I’ll be overjoyed if my school district ever gets around to having a plan that contemplates full time in person instruction for the fall.
Integrating masks into a normal day would be one thing. Changing the entire school day and requiring a six foot distance between kids at all times and masks full time for a disease that is about as likely to seriously harm kids as a lightning strike is a non-starter. Socialization is like 50% of the value of in-person instruction. What was revealed today basically defeats the entire purpose.
So it is better to keep your kids at home?
On balance, yes. I don’t really think what is described in Phase 4 is of any value to kids and could even be a bit damaging. It would only be valuable if that is what our culture is going to be like permanently (which is what I think many are beginning to suspect). I’ll just take my oldest son to work and have him do his work there where he isn’t going to be treated like a walking contagion.
Huh, kinda makes me want to go pull some of your previous posts wailing about how your kid was "falling apart" because of the lack of social contact.
You are an aggressively stupid human being. I can only hope your children learn from someone other than you.
Yeah their tiny windpipes definitely won't be able to project their voices over 6 ft distances. Going to be hard to have conversations and socialize at school. Might as well keep them locked in the closet.
The Coronavirus, you still do not understand.
And how would this avoid virtually any consequence of impact for that particular demographic?
It won't.
Speaking from an athletic perspective, I don't understand what switching the seasons around is going to solve. I ran track all through HS, I would have been perfectly capable of socializing with the sprinters from other schools, talking shit, etc. during a pandemic, all the while knowing even if I did come down with a case, it'd very likely be mild to nothing at all. Track athletes (and baseball, softball, etc) sweat, use watering stations, bathrooms, team benches, share team equipment, ride busses, etc. too... does she not understand that?
Team sports are inherently going to raise the risk of viral spread, no clue what she thinks she's gaining by recommending the seasons be switched.
From a health and safety perspective, its a solid idea.
From a HS Senior's perspective who already has committed to a college on a full ride... You are going to see a lot of kids sit out their senior season.
Considering only a small percentage ok kids in Michigan are going to play College Football I think this makes sense and hopefully by that time we will have a vaccine.
Vaccine? I think we've got a pretty good chance of the no-mask people shifting flawlessly to anti-vax.
Well at least in that instance people who follow the scientific guidance can survive when others don’t follow the guidance.
@maizenbluenc
because everyone who comes in contact with the virus dies?
Shifting sports to the Spring would be a good idea if there is a vaccine that comes out late in the year or early next year. That would be a game changer and it might be a way to have substantial numbers of fans in attendance. I'd not mind such a plan for college football. You could start mid-March and finish up in June. That wouldn't help college kids who are home, but after these many months without sports, if you could safely attend, filling up stadiums might be easy to do in the Spring.
What good is a vaccine when recent reports say that antibodies don't last? Do we need six month boosters for the rest of our lives?
Yes. Everyone seems to be pinning the rest of their life’s future on the creation of a vaccine. Seems like wishful thinking at best
We live in a state that has outlawed fist bumping between children playing sports. Let that sink in for a minute.
She'll be coming for your elbows next!
Ok, I’ve let it sink in.......Big fucking deal.
nobody scolds better than our own
Nah, Big Gretch isn't a Karen. She's not calling the cops, but she'll smack you right in the face if you step out of line.
I know the type. Well.
Are you up north now, on a pontoon boat somewhere?
God I wish, but not until August. I'm too cheap to pay July rates, especially when the water is warmer later in the summer.
You’re not a tree, you can move to TX, AZ, or FL...
that would probably be safer. Michigan has more deaths from Covid than Texas and Florida combined.
Keep up.
And yesterday, 9 times as many people died from Covid in both states as Michigan. By July 4th, your statement will likely no longer be true.
took until July 6. two states combined have five times the size of Michigan's population.
Whitmer is more destructive than Snyder ever was.
The boomers got to "karen". The meme is dead. RIP Karen, 2020-2020.
You mean Doomers!
What is a “Karen”?
