Can anyone remember a time when Louisville hasn’t been in trouble?
And yet Rick Pitino still gets to say he won a NC and John Beilein doesn’t............
Sometimes I really hate sports.
Well then 2020 is the perfect time for you
Cleveland State is really going to get it this time!
Wonder how Izzo evades being nailed? Maybe because Kentucky has more pull to take out their rival.
Izzo just flys under the radar... because he’s so damn short!
I believe Izzo is much more selective on which big guys he goes after. He will bring in guys who pretty clearly are getting money from agents, but I think he just passively stands by and allows that to happen. I don’t think he is actively setting up payment. It’s a pretty good strategy honestly. You get some stars through the bag men, but don’t directly risk getting caught.
correct me if i am wrong, but wasn't if found during the original investigation that there was an email from MSU asst coach dwayne stephens to bowen's handler/agent saying that he would get gary harris and miles bridges to sign with him if he got bowen to come to MSU?
point is that izzo doesn't get his hands dirty he lets an asst do the dirty work for him...
Isn't this a common strategy?
Head coach maintains formal disconnection and plausible deniability re: the shady stuff.
Unspoken understanding, however, is that the assistant coaches' job includes 'doing what has to be done' to land top players.
It's a common strategy that lets coaches bounce from school to school without getting in any personal hot water. Sounds vaguely familiar...
That isn't a violation.
Not true. Stephens is his bag man.
Because the only thing that is actually against the rules is it becoming public in a non-deniable way.
@Alumnus93 - I don’t wonder, but thank you for asking.
"For those allegations that are proven to be factual, the University will take responsibility, as accountability is one of our core Cardinal Principles."
Who talks like this? Someone needs to draw dick pictures on this guy's worldview.
Great! I have just the person in mind....
Whenever I see this GIF it reminds me of the Jonah Hill scene from Superbad
Who talks like this?
Dude... this is corporate speak 101 in this day and age. Bullshit like this is now the noise floor.
Tell me you haven't seen this at work, on TV, in the press, from a politician, etc. All one has to do is change the proper noun in the boilerplate below and they are set.
"as accountability is one of our core <insert org name here> Principles"
Let me guess, no organized practices and no access to facilities until June 1st
Also a 1 year postseason ban, retroactive to 2020.
It seems like the only way this can hold up is based on the idea that adidas can be classified as a booster, which seems problematic based on the way we've all traditionally thought of boosters for the entire history of the concept.
Feels like another instance where the NCAA will get its ass handed to them by a court.
I'm no fan of Louisville B-ball, but didn't they already go through this?
That’s what I thought. Didn’t we already go through this with Louisville like 10 times?
To be fair, it is difficult to keep track of them all. I was like wait is this strippers and hookers or pitino diner porn? No no wait those are others.
No, they went through stripper-gate. Now, this is for the Brian Bowen pay-to-play attempt.
When the actual punishment comes down and how severe, I'll believe it when I see it.
Yeah... UNC got off scott free for having fake classes, with fake grades and put on the transcript, and nothing happened. The NCAA actually said there wasn't a rule against holding fake classes so there was nothing they could do. Moreover, UNC kept their accreditation as well.
Move along, nothing to see here at Lousiville.
And the block was clean.
Izzo’s name came up in the FBI investigation. The NCAA said two minutes later that Msu had been cleared. What a joke.
One of 7 or 8 teams that have been given notices since last year—none of them resolved. The slow-play on these things means that very little will happen to these programs. Kansas got handed their notice right before the season and it was a story for a day before Kansas became an early favorite to win it all and not one time did we get “in case you didn’t know” info during their games. Yet, those same folks could talk about “Beilein with Cavs” scandals for days.
KU went scorched earth strategy and they’ll prolong this until NCAA gives up.
After reviewing the evidence, I am sure the NCAA will smash my Hillsdale College Chargers like a bug.
At this point I have to wonder why schools don't cheat. After LSU and UNC were caught red handed and told the NCAA to go pound sand, what have you got to lose?
I accidentally touched post before I was ready, which is why I put it as the first reply. It’s what is known as a mistake.
Good think I did add the link though since the internet is apparently too technical for you to type the words “Louisville” and “Allegations” into the search bar to be instantly linked to dozens of reports.
you must be a big hit at parties.
way to double down, not only are you too dumb to add actual content, you're apparently also a fucking asshole.
That’s MISTER fucking asshole to you shithead.
very informative post, well done.
So, despite apparently attending 2 of the finest institutions of higher learning in the nation, you can’t use google.
What an indictment of our education system.
So they will punish coaches and players who had nothing to do with the violations while the person responsible gets off scott free and coaches at another school. And while Louisville vacates the title they won by cheating, the true champion Michigan isn't awarded the title. And coaches continue to make millions, schools brazenly cheat and get off lightly, 5 star recruits get paid under the table and other players get the shaft.
The NCAA is a completely corrupt organization.
I'm torn... Louisville's approach to the ridiculousness of the NCAA is somewhat entertaining. I'd just like them to come right out and be honest. "Dear NCAA. Your rules are a sham. The top programs all cheat. We refuse to play your little games. We will continue to ignore your rules until you decide to enforce them effectively."
chances anything of substance comes of this: less than 10%.
I beg to differ. Louisville State Community College will be punished, someway.somehow.
that's a good point - as jerry tarkanian once said, "the ncaa got so pissed off at unlv, they gave cleveland state two more years probation."
One of the more consistently dirty basketball programs around. Again, I don't feel bad about kids getting paid, but at some point the NCAA just needed to give up the ghost and let everyone else do it.
The stench of Pitino is amazing. Louisville cleaned house from the AD to the basketball coaching staff and yet they continue to take hits from Pitino's time there.
But, being NCAA nothing will happen except Iona may get some punishment. I bet Calapari is even laughing at this one.
***It was a clean block!***
