OT: best Weird Al Song
So I saw Weird Al's rendition of Classical Gas HERE and it got me to thinking: what's your favorite Weird Al song?
It can be a parody, an original done in a particular group's style, or a polka.
I think mine is "Jerry Springer" (parody of "One Week" by the Barenaked Ladies)
Amish Paradise always and forever.
That is his best.
Leave it to Al to perform this 21 years ago, but upload it to YouTube last week.
I just rewatched the youtube - it might be the best video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOfZLb33uCg

I like this one, but Christmas at Ground Zero is an even better Yuletide tune.
Eat it
Like a Surgeon
Word Crimes.
Thanks I just listened to that.
It seems directed at our brethren in East Lansing - "can't read, can't write"
That's one of my favs.
White and Nerdy - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9qYF9DZPdw
White and Nerdy and Amish Paradise for me.

White and Nerdy hands down in my opinion. Very funny lyrics and the Donny Osmond (actually a pretty talented guy) cameo is perfect.
I'm partial to both "Living With a Hernia" and "I Lost on Jeopardy", in addition to a couple songs already mentioned.
Today's YouTube/Bluetooth playlist will now have to include generous helpings of Weird Al. His brand of humor never gets old.
Mission Statement is a work of art. Gives off a CSNY sound and hits every stupid corporate buzzword that's out there.

I forgot Everything You Know is Wrong. I sing that song all the time.
Yoda- Hands down. Best original source material (The Kinks Lola). Took Al forever to get permission from the publisher.
Smells like Nirvana
Smells like Nirvana
The Night Santa Went Crazy is up there for me. Also Frank’s 2000” TV
The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota

I like his recent ones, Word Crimes and Aluminum Foil. But it's hard to beat the classic MJ parodies. Fat and Eat It just have such a nice continued theme.

I’m fat is really good. If we’re grading the combo of both song and music video, it is a clear number 2 for me right behind Amish paradise.

Grapefruit Diet is another great fat-related song. Zoot Suit Riot parody.

I think anyone who says anything other than Amish Paradise or White and Nerdy is probably just trying to say something other than the obvious answers. There's a reason those are by far his biggest hits.
Having said that, I do love Trapped in the Drive-Thru. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHnTocdD7sk

I agree with everyone that says White and Nerdy or Amish Paradise

Bedrock Anthem (Give it Away Now by RHCP) - especially for its video and this rhyme at the end "Barney Rubble laughin like a hyena, Barney Rubble, what a litte wiena. Where's Wilma, anybody seen her? Got a baby elephant vaccuum cleaner!"
Headline News and Smells like Nirvana and Gump are great too. As is "Lasagne" (La Bamba).
All Hail Weird Al.

Definitely Amish paradise as the clear number one but I do find myself referencing “another tattoo” all the time

Great question. So many great songs. I am old, so I gotta go with "Dare To Be Stupid." It's a Devo parody that Devo front man Mark Mothersbaugh felt was "more Devo than Devo."
For something more recent, "Sports Song" is brilliant.

Dare to be applauded for reminding me of "Dare To Be Stupid".
March 25th, 2020 at 12:18 PM ^
That video is an absolute classic. So many greats in this thread, but I think Dare to be Stupid is the one for me, especially when paired with the video.

“One More Minute“ is not only the greatest Weird Al song ever, it is the greatest breakup song by any artist ever.
I couldn’t help feeling a tinge of sadness when I got married, knowing I’d never get to sing that song with any real passion again.
March 25th, 2020 at 11:49 AM ^
One more minute is a favorite of mine. Also, Amish Paradise as mentioned and I Remeber Larry and Yoda.
March 25th, 2020 at 12:16 PM ^
Agreed, One More Minute. It's kind of a b-side little-known one, but anyone who's been dumped can relate and feel a bit better through it.
Yoda, I Lost on Jeopardy, Word Crimes all up there, too.

Was just about to mention One More Minute, but you folks beat me to the punch. My other favorites: Christmas at Ground Zero, You Don't Love Me Anymore, and any of the Polka medleys. Polka Your Eyes Out is a standout for me. Good song selection, and amazing drum solo! Went to his show at Hill Auditorium in '96 or '97 (my Junior year) by myself because none of my f'ing friends/housemates had any interest in going. Weird Al FOREVER!!!

Amish Paradise with the video.

No OT.

Don't really have one for Weird Al, but this one is my favorite from Heywood Banks. Probably his least silly recording.
March 25th, 2020 at 11:29 AM ^
I always really liked "It's All About the Pentiums" personally. I thought he just NAILED the parody aspect of that while staying true to the song it was inspired from. Underrated all the way around.
That one is great.

The Saga Begins is amazing especially considering Weird Al wrote it before the movie came out; it was entirely based on internet rumors and spoilers, and just about completely accurate.
March 25th, 2020 at 11:58 AM ^
I was literally thinking about this over the weekend and went on a Weird Al binge on Spotify. I think I came to the conclusion that "Polka your eyes out" is my favorite... or maybe "The Saga Begins".
March 25th, 2020 at 12:21 PM ^
The polka medleys are definitely some of the best just because of the sheer combinations of songs and funky transitions. Going to go on a Weird Al binge later today.

Growing up, we somehow came upon a VHS of Weird Al music videos at a yard sale. We watched the damned thing so much the tape wore out.
Some true classics on there - if you're too good to just watch them on YouTube, and you still somehow have a VHS player, you can still buy it on Amazon!

'You Don't Love Me Anymore' by miles for me. If you haven't heard it yet, do yourself a favor.
'Another One Rides the Bus' also an oldie but a goodie.
Any answer that isn’t pretty fly for a rabbi, might be wrong. If only for the line “his parents pay the moyl, but he gets to keep the tip”. Love the original, but that line in weird al’s version always makes me laugh.
So many brilliant parodies it’s hard to choose one. I’ve always liked “Rye or the Kaiser”, which is from “In 3-D” and one few people I know seem to know/recall. It’s based off “Eye of the Tiger”, by Survivor. If you’ve never heard it, go ahead and treat yourself.
I say it every year, and many people agree.
We need Weird AL to play at the Superbowl halftime one of these years .
Living in the fridge isnt the best, but I'd put it up there.
1. Amish paradise
2. Whos fat
3. Word crimes
4. White and nerdy
5. Living in the fridge
