Come on...it wasn't perfect. It just had some really good songs and probably one of your all-time favorites.

Perfect? I can't argue your opinion...but let's settle down. No one is putting Recovery next to Blueprint, illmatic, GKMC or TPAB or Damn (whichever you prefer), College Dropout or Late Registration or My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, or All Eyez On Me, or Chronic, or Doggystyle, or Get Rich or Die Trying, or ATLiens, or Carter II, or Midnight Marauders, So Far Gone, Take Care, or The Warm-Up and 2014 Forest Hills Drive...

OR

Slim Shady LP, Marshall Mathers LP, or Eminem Show.

Phew...that was pretty good.

Eminem was the best when he was on drugs. Clean Eminem is wack, with the exception of a few songs. And I'm a huge Eminem fan

That's a weird timeline when you could just use age or wealth.

Name 5 rappers who were better at the end of their career than the beginning.

Jay-Z put out a GREAT album (4:44), but it's not Reasonable Doubt or Blueprint or Black Album.

Nas? Lil Wayne? Snoop? Cube? Outkast? Kanye? Drake?

Maybe you can say J. Cole. Kendrick hasn't had a bad album so we can't say he's better.

Do you really think Eminem was going to be the exception.

Part of rap is about the hunger, struggle, relating to it.

I argue it has more to do with age, era, saturation, self change/maturity, and record sales than it does drugs. Lazy comment but it'll get you likes.

That’s a great point re: naming 5 rappers better at the end of their careers. The only one (besides those whose careers were cut short due to untimely death) I could come up with is Black Thought, who put out a 10-minute freestyle two years ago at age 46 that many believe is the best freestyle of all time. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=prmQgSpV3fA

I was never really into Eminem. I recognize his absolutely fantastic talent. The guy can win any rap battle, I’m sure. He is brilliant when it comes to lyrics. All that said, he isn’t my style. I like some of his hits, of course, but could never listen to him for hours straight like I can Amaru.

I was pleasantly surprised. I think it's an awesome album. And that is with no nostalgia or bias. I liked him before but I'm not someone who is going to grade his album softer just because he passed. He's got someone of a cult following who think his poop sounds would be an amazing album.

Even from where I stand...I was blown away. The tone and melodies are incredible. It's also extremely cohesive as a whole album. You can listen and realize 10 minutes later than 2 more songs had played.

If people allow it to have it's own lane and aren't lazy to call it a rap album, I feel like it's one of the best albums ever in whatever that genre would be considered.

I thought it was above average. And lyrics in a song are like scenes in a movie, I don’t need to agree with how someone’s acting to find it entertaining.

Lol it's trash. Then don't tell me you like his early albums.

Twitter has ruined introspection and independent thought.

Now everything is L, trash or canceled.

Case and point...read this thread. If you don't like it, fine...but look at how many people use the same words. "It's trash."

Sheep.

Respect to anyone who actually puts even an iota of explanation behind their opinion...not matter what it is. The Twitterverse talk is lame.

Solid album.

People who don't like it wouldn't like Slim Shady LP, Marshall Mathers LP, or Eminem Show outside of Stan and The Way I Am.

It's simple...you either like Eminem or you don't. This is a very Eminem album.

It's like Dave Chappelle. Why do people think he's going to change? You either like his humor or you think he's way over the top, homophobic, etc.

You know what you're getting when you listen to both yet people STILL act surprised and complain about them.

I love SSLP, MMLP, and TES, aside from like 5 songs total (Drips, Superman, ‘97 Bonnie and Clyde, and Say What You Say off the top of my head) and find this album to be awful. The lyrics whining about critics for the 3rd straight album are garbage, the flow is choppy and just sad given where he used to be, and holy crap is the production inexcusable for such a high profile artist. Again, this is my opinion. You can’t generalize it into a “Oh, well you just hate Eminem” thing.

What other genre of music has an age cap?

The only reason Em is too old is because he is one of the first great rappers to still be relevant at his age.

If it was Rock, Jazz, Blues, Classical, R&B...no one says "Dude's too old."

Why? Because you've seen it. Springsteen, Bono, Elton John, Jimmy Buffett, the 80's bands that are going on tour this summer...they're all still at it and selling places out. No one says a thing.

And when some rapper that takes over 5 years from now is still rapping 35 years from now...no one will say a thing. Because of Jay-Z, Eminem, 2 Chainz, etc.

There is no way you can say that and like Slim Shady LP.

That's like saying you love Michael Jordan's game but Kobe's game is "horrid."

You've changed more than Em has changed...and that's okay. It's just not for you anymore. But don't call yourself a fan and then call his work that is awful similar to his early work "horrid."

Is it as good? No. But that's dramatic for something so similar to something you claim to be a fan of...

I'm so skeptical about this that I'm not even going to listen.

Eminem has been so far beyond bad the last few times I've listened to him that he has used up all his leeway.

I should've remembered that the median age on here is 80 before posting this...Though I'm sure y'all understand why I'd think the median age was 14 going off of the maturity of the posters

Oh, and Recovery was one of the worst, if not the worst album released by Eminem.

Eminem is a lyricist the likes of which we haven't heard before and will most likely not ever hear again.

It's not about what he says. It's about how he says it and actually makes it work. Inflection, changing how the word sounds to make it fit and rhyme. It's the reason he's such a good story teller, free styler and battler.

I'm an old dude who doesnt really even listen to rap or any popular music anymore. But the opinions on this are so all over the place it's clear people are biased, closed minded or they just don't know what they're listening to or why.

Everything doesn't have to be the greatest ever or complete trash. People need to stop being extremists.

I will go to the grave saying Relapse is incredible.

This album is really good after 2 listens all the way through. A few songs I don't like, but his rapping (from a technical perspective) is unreal

Ugh.  I try.  I really try to respect people's musical differences.  Everyone has different tastes and I get that.  But hip hop is easily the worst thing to happen to ears since Van Gogh.  I don't understand the appeal.

*Though in the interest of full disclosure, I did wear out a DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince tape or two back in the 80s.  I'd say don't judge, but I think in this case it would be warranted.

Oh wow! I have heard several songs from his new album and it seems for me really good. I wish I had better headphones but I will delay it for better times. Now I need to buy JBL outdoor speakers Control 30-WH and I hope I will be able to buy headphones of this very company.
